Could be some sort of rocket thing, light refraction of some sort or a complete hoax.

Gotta admit it does look freaky. Does anyone know if it’s a natural occurrence OR CGI?

Are you kidding!  It looks even worse than the Henry Cavill mustache disaster from Justice League.

Is it three centimeters away or thirty kilometers away?

I have no idea what might cause it / the illusion.

Is it a thread of yarn or a piece of fishing line?

Unfortunately the only sources I find of this are UFO focused ones. No news source, space source or even weather source. Kind of suspicious.

About the closest I've found is a SpaceX launch.

Yes, there is literally nothing about this outside of the social media tabloid bs.

Red flag indeed.

that would be one hell of an expensive hoax. and the hoax loses something when you don't know what it is supposed to be imitating.

It doesn't even matter what the hoax would be imitating so long as it looks cool, flashy and mysterious and someone who has a good handle on special effects with digital media could pull it off.

Wasn't really on topic, but kinda. Clouds can take on strange shapes.

Yeah, but this 'thing' didn't look like a cloud at all.

Hole punch cloud seems plausible, but to have two of them and one ray of light?

I Don't believe in aliens, plus this is them not being secretive.

Not a fallstreak/hole punch - appears to be some hazy cirrostratus in the sky, but that's too high up.   It's not a meteorological phenomenon.   But then neither are the special effects in sci-fi movies ;)

I wonder if it could be some type of sun dog?

No, it's definitely nothing meteorological.   Also note that the sun is almost below the horizon.
