Mystery surrounds disc-shaped object spotted on Google Earth

Looks like an old satellite dish of some sort or could be a type of storage silo...maybe a structure where part of it is built into a hill.

Why not simply research the coordinates to find out what is there? It really doesn't look all that mysterious to me.

Speculating gets likes and hits on somebody's site.  Finding out what it is ends the cash flow.

The same story can be found on numerous other news sites and if you check the co-ordinates, the object in question genuinely exists on Google Earth.

I put in the coordinates.  I think the round part is concrete and the part in the middle is a stair case, possibly also made of concrete.

I did!  I just now flew out there and mapped it!  It's exactly 13.71 miles from the Magdalena Rodeo Grounds in Magdalena, New Mexico. (as the crow flies)

@joc Thanks for the research.
I don’t see any roads leading to the structure. I wonder if it’s a wealthy person’s home that is only accessible by helicopter.

There’s a home in Sedona, AZ built on the edge of a cliff that’s only accessible by helicopter or a tram attached to the side of the cliff. Here’s an article about it:

That is close to where I live.   I can't tell, is this something strange from google maps.   The line obscures the data.   This is close to the Cosmic Campground where no lights are allowed so that there is clear star watching.  It is also very close to the VLA.   That line  looks like it goes into the Navajo reservation.

After close observation of the VLA, I think  the picture in question is of an astronomical radio observatory dish.   When the picture was taken, The construction of the dish wasn't finished.  Note the similarities between the picture in question and the dishes at the VLA.  The 'stairs' could be scaffolding used in construction.  Also, this location appears to be a Private piece of property.

Or...it could be in a state of deconstruction.  I also looked at how observatory dishes are built.  They use cranes.

since it is on the southern border of the Navajo reservation it could be something they are constructing.  They have several science research facilities, most of them are biology research, the desert willow was developed by them in the late 60's.   It is also possible that the VLA is leasing space from them to enhance their array.

Someone had mentioned there was once a rectangular/square structure on it at one point, could this be the exposed foundation? The concrete "footing", so to speak?

Work at the VLA site began in 1974, and NRAO personnel began moving to New Mexico in 1975. By October of 1975, the first VLA antenna was complete and used to observe a galaxy 50 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo. Link

It makes since that they would have had support buildings around.  Perhaps one of the buildings was the 'black box' mentioned in the article, which also mentions that it is possible that it is could be  some sort of science station for recording data.
