Popular Post Gromdor Posted February 17 Popular Post #1 Share Posted February 17 In a funny bit of irony: https://www.agweb.com/news/livestock/poultry/trump-administration-shifts-strategy-avian-flu https://abcnews.go.com/Health/moderna-mrna-bird-flu-vaccine-award/story?id=117813010 So the current administration dislikes the idea of culling infected flocks so they are turning towards the idea of vaccinating chickens- with the same MRNA style vaccines that we used for Covid. The irony is that the very same people that feared the COVID vaccine will be eating vaccinated eggs and chickens using the same style of vaccine. 6 3
psyche101 Posted February 17 #2 Share Posted February 17 Do the chickens have to wear masks though. That could create a huge issue......

They were talking increased bio-containment. Currently we have them 1/2 million to a building stacked in cages on top of each other with space underneath that you drive a bobcat to plow the bird droppings. Sealing the building better to keep wild birds out would help. Maybe an airlock for the bobcat?

Can we work on that?

We do chlorine (bleach) baths for chicken meat in the US: https://millersbiofarm.com/blog/how-to-know-if-there-s-chlorine-on-your-chicken Edited February 18 by Gromdor

You're point seems amplified by the lack of responses (people's problems with the vaccine). Deep fried vaccines seem to approved by all.aube it should have been marketed by KFC instead of Phizer.
preacherman76 Posted February 18 #7 Share Posted February 18 The other day me and my son were talking about raising our own chickens. If they go this route I’m definitely going to soon as the weather breaks. If that vaccine is effective as the Covid one, it will basically do nothing.

Gromdor Posted February 20 Author #9 Share Posted February 20 Looks like there might be some price relief on eggs: https://www.reuters.com/markets/commodities/turkey-export-15000-tonnes-eggs-us-amid-bird-flu-disruptions-2025-02-19/ Other countries (like Turkey) aren't affected by bird flu and their egg prices remain lower and stable. So they have started to export some to the US.
