New US law could see men fined for unprotected sex 'without intent to conceive'

A pioneering bill has been put forward in Ohio that would make it a serious crime for men to ejaculate unless they plan to father a child. The proposed law, introduced by Democratic House Representative Anita Somani, aims to regulate male reproductive rights in the same way as women's.

  • The title was changed to New US law could see men fined for unprotected sex 'without intent to conceive'

I think there's already a thread on this.

I don't follow foreign exchange, but 8,000 pounds sounds like a stiff fine.

This proposed law is beyond moronic and has now entered a new and undiscovered realm of the Twilight Zone

It's not when you look at it from the perspective it's being proposed for.

You cannot keep making new laws to control sexual activity. This is why we have contraceptives for both genders. Why not craft a law that makes it illegal for a woman to ovulate or whatever unless they plan to get pregnant?

Seriously why is it always the mans fault when a pregnancy is a result? Where does the responsibility of a woman come into play? After all it takes two to do this..it doesn't happen magically.

Responsible behavior is not a dirty word.

Anita Somani has explained why she introduced the bill.

I read it and I still think it is a massive over reach of government powers. Unless a crime was committed then it is only fair that both parties involved get penalized, not just the man.

A man can use protection as can a woman; protection can fail too but god forbid we teach, encourage and even celebrate abstinence as another aspect of responsible behavior.

Cool.  That's maybe why you are misunderstanding the point of the bill.

I'm not so tolerant of websites with volatile ads.  And, stating an £8,000 fine could be the sanction, had me thinking that perhaps an article not from a UK tabloid might not be the most accurate source.

Would you like me to send you some free Googles?

I am not misunderstanding anything. We don't need more laws to control our lives. We need to promotion of responsible behavior done out of respect for ourselves as well as society, not out of fear.

And no..I do not need 'Googles'..I try not to use Google itself as much as possible.

Sometimes it is hard to determine what is supposed to be humerous and what isn't on a forum.

I see the message being sent, but still think it's moronic.

Doubtless many liberals who sit weeping at night about how we need trans girls to go into the girls rooms and get naked, are gnashing teeth on this.

Many who want 40 week abortion are very very angry, and will scream in hate how this is the right path.

Moronic.

How is this "equal". Contraception isn't required. Abortion is optional. Woman are at no point prevented from having sex.

Uhm... I'm a real lefty-liberal and I don't get why you think we're upset about this.  Seriously.  (and I'm as offended by trans women changing in women's spaces as I am about trans men changing in men's spaces.)

Uhm... no offense here, but how much do you know about obstetrics?  Are you calling induced labors "abortions"?  Also, as pro-choice lefty, I'm not sure why you think we'd be screaming.

No, seriously.  I have no idea why you think we'd be upset.

And also, you might want to learn a bit more about birthing and babies before going into the "40 week abortion" rant.

However, rapes and nonconsensual sex and "oops, the condom slipped off" and so forth are very common.  We can get pregnant even if we didn't want the sexual activity that we were forced to endure.  A lot of people seem to think that contraception is the woman's duty (even if she wasn't planning on having sex or if the pill or other preventative makes her ill (this happens)... and that the guy just runs in and has fun and wanders off.

He needs to man up and see it as his duty to make sure he's not breeding indiscriminately.

Well, I didn't say all, I said "many".

I used to live in Oregon, and you can't join a hobby group, or a home school group, or visit with parents from school, or just talk to random people here and there, without running into frothing at the mouth liberals who are frantic, upset, and angered into hatred, nearly all the time. I worked in a group of five on my shift In a small department at Intel, and three of them were very political, and very liberal. Supporting the rioters trying to burn down Portland level. It's tremendously common in Northern Oregon.

Just admitting you dont support boys stripping naked in a girl's locker room could get you in a lot of hot water in many social situations there.

Well, I've lived most of my years in Portland Oregon, so if there's a far left liberal idea to be fought over, it's being fought over there.

40 week abortions are a thing. It's happened. And can still happen by some state laws. And pro-choice advocates often fight to maintain those state laws.

States that allow for late-term abortions with no state-imposed thresholds are Alaska, Colorado, District of Columbia, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, and Vermont.

No threshold. No reason needed.

Many of the lefties I've known tended to "go loud" and basically scream down and attempt at discussion. Probably not hundreds, but certainly dozens, and most screamed/shouted. Screaming perhaps implies being out of control, so make shouting is better, as not ALL of the people I argued with was out of control, just some of them.

There's supposedly male hormonal drugs www in the works. Man takes a pill and his boys don't show up to the party for a couple days.

Does that fit your needs?

I'd tend to agree a man needs to be responsible. If he can not, he should keep his pants on and zipped up. We have way to many fatherless kids in the world today.
