pellinore Posted February 18 #1 Share Posted February 18 (edited) Timing is everything in politics. So when the leader of the opposition realized she was due to be making a speech heaping praise on Donald Trump, just as the president plunged her own country into a national security crisis, you might think even she would have hesitated. But seemingly nothing can keep Kemi Badenoch from a culture war, not even the threat of an actual war. So, at a rightwing conference in London on Monday morning, she duly ripped into corporate diversity policies, climate activism, Keir Starmer taking the knee four and a half years ago, and various other imagined threats to western civilisation that are not forcing Britain to consider deploying troops against them, before concluding triumphantly that when people ask her what difference a change of leader makes, her answer is, “Take a look at President Trump.” Those words should be replayed over and over again for as long as Badenoch remains leader of the opposition, which at this rate may not be very long. For once, it’s not just the liberal left who are looking at Trump and recoiling in horror. Ukrainian sovereignty was a cause unusually close to rightwing hearts, too: Reform UK’s deputy leader, Richard Tice, was torn apart by TalkTV’s uber-Brexiter Julia Hartley-Brewer for attempting to defend Trump’s shameful betrayal of Ukraine, in an encounter that went viral on X. “Which part of Britain would you give away if we were invaded?” demanded Hartley-Brewer, before scoffing: “I just thought Reform cared about national borders and sovereignty.” This is Farage’s moment of reckoning: he can choose British voters – or Putin and Trump | Gaby Hinsliff | The Guardian Edited February 18 by pellinore

Ukraine would have fallen in a few months or less without the massive amounts of aid they were given. If it's considered a betrayal to refuse to keep fighting for the next who knows how many years ALL ON THE US DIME, then so be it. My advice to the EU is to begin getting ready in case Putin really is insane and decides to move on one of the Baltic states. If he does, there will be time enough to teach him that his bluff isn't going to save him this time.
stevewinn Posted February 19 #3 Share Posted February 19 Farage, moment of crisis? sounds like their rattled over there at the Guardian HQ. On the day starmer announced he is open to use of British troops in Ukraine, Sky News in their report stated 67% of British people didn’t want British troops deployed. So is Farage and Reform out of step? Does the establishment really want Farage dropping truth bombs about Ukraine and the War? free gear Kier Starmer like every good leader when suffering immense unpopularity at home inevitably turn to foreign adventures to divert attention away from domestic failures, - and the announcement or proposal of British troops to Ukraine was about as good as he could get. - note how he was out of step with European leaders who poured cold water on committing their Troops. I'd say Starmers moment(s) of crisis have arrived. - and all are aligning.

Does he really believe that the people of this country are happy to sacrifice their sons for the likes of Zelensky? What a complete idiot. He's out on his own on this one.
