Shearer who tackled alleged gun-wielding teen gets hero's welcome from Jetstar staff

The shearing contractor from the Echuca-Moama region on the Victoria-NSW border was sitting in the front row of flight JQ610 from Melbourne's Avalon Airport to Sydney on Thursday afternoon when a 17-year-old entered the plane.

Mr Clark sprang into action when he noticed a flight attendant was questioning the youth, who he said became agitated.

"And before we know it, there was a gun — shotgun appeared — and I was worried about there being shots, so all I could do was get the gun out of the way, break that, throw it down the stairs — try to — and then put him in a hold and throw him to the ground til the police come," he told ABC Radio Melbourne shortly after the ordeal.

"He had other apparatus on him, so I didn't know what his full intention was."

When asked what was going through his mind at that moment, Mr Clark replied: "You don't think, you act."

He said his upbringing had given him the tools to respond.

I really like his response when they ask him what he was thinking. He responds with you don’t think, you react, which is certainly the truth because in a situation like that there is no time to think.
