LONDON (AFP) - Abusive and violent patients in a British hospital will be penalised with a "football-style" disciplinary system involving red and yellow cards.

The University Hospital in Birmingham, central England, said patients who verbally abuse staff will be warned about their behaviour with a yellow marker attached to their medical notes.

Patients who physically attack staff will have their right to treatment withdrawn and their notes marked with a red sticker.

The trust says the new system will give nurses and consultants prior warning of troublesome patients

I wonder if Canadian hospitals will follow suit and make patients take a 2 minute break in a penalty box for unruly conduct. Where is Roy Romanow when you need him?

"You go to the box. You feel bad."
