Royals cost Britain £37m a year

I have just come upon this topic and due to my lack of effort, I haven't read all of the posts. Regardless of this, I believe that Britain should be made a republic. The monarchy are an embarrasment to our country and help to create a sterotypical view of the British.

I would be a bit sad if they went, due to national heritage, however I think it would be better for the country in the future. It is not very democratic to give 20p tax a year (or something like that), to a family who came from Germany.
