Chinese Military is no match for US Army!

Yeah but that is pretty reasonable.  The US military stationed in the UK don't NEED to be on station in London, and the USA is naturally concerned for it's troops abroad... how is that a cowardly thing?  Do they want some widows or grieving fathers just for the sake of a shopping trip into London when there may be bombs going off?

It's natural concern for troops abroad that ARENT SEEING ACTION... i'm sure if they were ordered to go into London to support our troops they would.

This is beginning to veer off topic, and the order in question has been withdrawn now, but it's still an important question; doesn't it give the impression to outsiders that London is so dangerous that anyone setting foot there puts their life at risk? And therefore it's exactly the opposite to the message that we should be putting across? And also perhaps that the US servicemen are more important, they can't be put at risk while it's OK for civilians to be?

Not necessarily. Social politics need to be considered as well. After all, to a British citizen, having American military personnel assume security duty in their land probably leaves as bad a taste in their mouths as having British troops assume the security of an American town after being attacked. It just tweaks your patriotism a bit.

Ya and we also forgot how they were trying to run this country from overseas, forgot how we had a battle for, and how we won this country to give our people the freedoms that they have today.

OMG ! This articles is 6 years old. According to Pentagon annual report and other military expert, China military have modernized rapidly since 1999. The size of the army is now being reduces to 2.3 million by the end of 2006.

In 1999, china entire fourth generation fighter is less than 100 but this has now increase up to 380 in 2005 which include J-10, Su-27 and SU-30. China has been developing its own indigenous airborne warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft, based on Russian Beriev A-50 (NATO codename: Mainstay) airframe. About six of the AWACS will enter the services no later than 2008. More will be built.

Since 1999, China navy expand more rapidly compare to the air forces and land forces. Several next generation destroyer have been build like Type 052C (Lanzhou), Type 052B (Guangzhou), Type 051C ( DDG 115). China will have 8 Sovremenny destroyer in services in 2006 compare to only two in 1999. China also will have at least 30 fourth generation diesel submarines by the year 2008 compare to just 4 in 1999. Two newest nuclear submarines will enter services very soon.

Come on ! Don't take an over 6 years old to compare china military with other country. You may well compare US military in the 20's to USSR in 80's.

The weapons platforms you have named are indeed in the Chinese arsenal.....so your right about that, but what you forget is that the US Military hasn't been sitting on it's haunches either! Two new planes have been introduced, the F-22(the most powerful fighter jet in existence), and the JSF-35, which will be used by some european nations and the US. The warships you named are NOT up to par against similar ships in the US Navy......

Lets get this straight partner, the Chinese are buying mostly old, used equipment(some new but not near enough) from a countries military arsenal that the USA has been designing ITS arsenal to destroy for the past 40-50 years? You think that leads any credence to your argument? Most of the equipment the Chinese are using is at about the same level in terms of technology as what Iraq had at the onset of its wars with the US......and you can see what happened to them.....

The US has weapons that can and will destroy a HUGE majority of the Chinese military before the Chinese even know that they are being attacked. The US also has far better communications, and are in control of military grade GPS(we are the only ones with GPS satellites).........which means precision missile strikes.......lets do a scenario.....the Chinese, who are without a doubt being watched constantly, decide to attack Taiwan.....the MOMENT a US satellite, recon plane, or data interception reaches the US Command and Control Centers forces will be mobilized that are based out of Japan.......also, subs would launch cruise missiles, which are guided by GPS to the ships leaving the Chinese harbors.........the ships would be destroyed, along with the troops and equipment on them.......some of the cruise missiles would also be aimed at control centers, radar stations, and air strips........the best planes in the world supported by the best communication and detection equipment would leave carriers and attack the Chinese planes in the air....dominating the air space over the Taiwan Strait........and thats just the US MILITARY, that scenario doesn't take into account our allies the Australians, or our allies the Japanese.....the Taiwanese would also be defending their country.......and we also have a huge military base in Korea...........the Chinese would be decimated....

The only thing that worries me is how they will react to such devastation......will they panic and begin launching nukes? If they did that would be stupid, they'd have to know that the US has more nukes that are of much bigger yield.......its like shooting a .22 caliber rifle at someone with a 45-70......they would cause some serious damage to the US(provided we don't ALREADY have ways of shooting the missiles down).....but the US would make China into the largest parking lot in the world......on top of that, the rest of the world would be astonished and enraged that the Chinese had chosen such an option, especially with no US troops threatening an invasion.

Like I said earlier in the post......a HUGE percentage of the Chinese Armed Forces is for all intents and purposes the largest military MUSEUM in the world.

CHina could take on the US and win, with them Technology wouldnt matter, the US would iether run out of bullets or men befor the Chinies.

You forgot. Every mothers son in America has a gun. Guns are not allowed in China with the exception of the military. We have the largest armed force in the world if you consider the citizens. And many citizens are armed to the teeth.

So it would be a turkey shoot for the US.

The numbers or quality of an army is not the decided factor. When a war enters cities, the best of armies cannot win. Look what happened in Somolia and what is happening in Iraq. In the open areas the U.S. army is far superior but in urban fighting the defenders have every advantage and the U.S. army always winds up with a stalemate and a bad international reputation for the number of innocent civilians killed.

just look at stories during the korean war when fighting the chinese. their tactic was to "steamroll" the enemy, flood the troops. fighting the chinese was no simple task back then, and I doubt it would be now.

It was an even footing tech wise back then, the chinese supplied by the Russians, that is not the case now. The American arsenal has things that you can only dream about, things not seen in open conventional war.

An interesting point. How trined are the chinese in other kinds of warfare. Net hacking, sabotage in enemy territory, desmoralization, etc. In some of this points China had a slight advantage, has the USA is a democratic country, and had less controls than China.

I don't think its a question of control, rather its a question of scrupples. The chineses have fifty years of squashing anti communist thought, which covers a lot of ground. They would be less inclined to worry about public opinin about their methods.

I'd still be afraid to fight China. At some point we are going to have to fight on land, and their foot soldiers(NO NOT THE ONES FROM NINJA TURTLES), are gonna exhaust ours. Um...the U.S. believes that we are the only superpower in the world, but at some point we are gonna meet our demise. Why can't we all live in peace??? sad.gif
