I think you XSAS are being just as ignorant as everyone else in regards to understanding  the militaries of the world....the average U.S. Marine is DIFFERENT than Royal Marine.......not any less of a soldier......American Marines are used in far better numbers with far better equipment........AND far better back up.....AND far better communications....all these are what people who deal in military strategy call FORCE MULTIPLIERS.......

which means....all the technology and training TOGETHER can make fighting 10 U.S. Marines comparable to fighting 20 Royal Marines......its what happens when your country can afford to RECRUIT large amounts of soldiers....and by the way...the chinese military only outnumbers the U.S> military by about 2-1....some would argue 3-1....but take into account all the force multipliers of BOTH sides....and the U.S. is clearly the winner.....against the Chinese.....OR the Royal Marines......even if they have better training....you could train well with out-dated or sub-standard equipment all day but in the end....the country that can provide decent training to ALL its soldiers, feed its soldiers EVERYDAY....EVEN during wartime.......can back its marines up with the best planes, helicopters, warships, carriers, submarines, communications, precision-guided cruise missiles......etc........in the world......that country is the winner.........and that country just so happens to be the U.S.

We can banter back and forth ALL DAY.........we can say....the U.S. Marines aren't trained as well as the Royal Marines.......or we could say the Chinese have MORE soldiers.....but we all know, and the world knows.....that the U.S. Military can put the hurt on anyone, anywhere.

SAS, in battle everybody can get spooked, i'm sure the Marines were'nt idiots or haters of U.K. troops. there's been countless cases in every war, every side, of people accidently killing allies. give em' a break cause britains done it too!

Hmm I think to some extent Dr. Strangehug does have a point, though stating 10 U.S. marines could be equivalent to 20 Royal Marines is stretching it a tad. original.gif

yeah, I guess the only way we would be able to know the actuall stats would be to make a scenario game of 20 Royal Marines against 10 U.S. overall, either side, UK or US, they are still the few, the proud,The Marines thumbsup.gif !

How can you explain shooting down Helicopters in Iraq or even shooting at Convoys. the UK lost more troops top friendly fire in the first gulf war than they did to the enemy... Spooked is not an excuse it all boils down to training. My argument was that the Chinese have an equal training program to many of the US special forces.

Britain has shot down convoy's, helicopters, and friendly troops too! along with many other nations. in the heat of battle sometimes one shoots a friendly mistaking them for an ememy!

its called Friendly-Fire.

Info on chinese special forces, which are by all accounts well-equipped and well-trained...

http://www.strategypage.com/dls/articles/20047201.asp

They have also been trained by US marines, so likely use similar tactices etc http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=17292

And lets face it... while the western worlds special forces are tough in hand-to-hand... can you imagine how tough the chinese are, a coutry reknowned for it's martial artists... many of them likely learn it from birth. huh.gif

EDIT - Padawan you gotta admit... the U.S. army is more (in)famous for it's friendly fire than any other army... there were a LOT in Iraq... far above the norm...

Minimal in comparison and who invented the term friendly fire anyway this is about China and the US back on topic.

it doesnt matter how much training one had. Friendly Fire is due to an accidental and natural instinct of survival. you could get a handfull of Green-Beanie's and shove a bunch of enemy troops at em. but once reinforcements come along in their path chances are the reinforcements will be shot.

and China has the equal training of U.S. special forces? huh.gif no way! they recieve some training, but not anything special.

As for the Chinese training.....

Remember the academy XSAS?

Some of the masters there were in the special forces or bodyguards for high-ranking statesmen and one of them even was the personal guard of the head of state. It takes 9 years for mastership, and a lot of them have been training there way longer. You do the equation.

what I mean is the SAS are secretive, just like U.S. special forces, your not supposed to tell anyone that you are one. i'm just curious why you shout that you are.

The Chinese army special operations units are called dadu and are very similar to US Special Forces Units. Two of these dadu are assigned to the Guangzhou Military Region and the Shanghai Shi Military Region and are described as NAVY SEAL type units trained for amphibious and counter insurgency operations using These units are well equipped and candidates initial training lasts three years (and is considered college education).

Army special forces units specialize in gathering information on the enemy, on the weather and on targets behind enemy lines (in addition to raids). They attempt to identify and locate enemy command posts, reserves, weapons of mass destruction, other key weapons, logistics assets and river crossing units. They also specialize in forward control of precision strike weapons used by other military forces. These units have names rather than numbers. For example, the one in the Nanjing Military Region is called the Brave Tigers Unit. And the one at Chengdu is the Hunting Leopard Unit.

The PLAN Marines have four or five smaller dadu. Most, or all, of these are assigned to the two Marine Brigades. There are two types: a recon unit and a frogman unit. The recon unit (200 to 300 men) is similar to American Force Recon marines, and it lands on a beach, under cover of darkness, one hour before the first assault. Its mission is to neutralize key defense positions and remove obstacles. The frogman unit is only a platoon and it conducts operations from submarines and stealth boats. In the First Marine Brigade, these units are entirely female.

The difference my friend is I was, Now I work the private sector and are behind most of the TV programs, do you think if was was still wearing a balaclava I would be on UM. Most people know who we are after we leave because we get behind TV programs like SAS are you tough enough or write books there are very few that still hide their identity like McNab.
