Haunted Huntsville Alabama

Recommended Posts

I lived in Huntsville for 24 years. The DCP that they referred to here is located next to Maple Hill Cemetery. I heard that the spirits of the dead children from the cemetery goes there to play, although I have never witnessed anything there at all. I have a couple friends buried there and would go there to visit them a lot when I lived there. I'd go alone always, and never saw and/or witnessed anything out of the ordinary there. I've had experienced things in Memorial Gardens though, as well as the Carter mansion. Incidentially though, I have heard that you can no longer go on the grounds of the Carter mansion. I don't know about that though. You may want to call the local tourism board there and ask them if it's still accessible to the public.

to get to dead children's playground drive west on mcclung, outside maple hill. once you get to the corner of the cemetary there is a small road to the left. the gate isn't closed in the day. the playground can't be seen from the street.

In the cotton field at the corner of Jimmy Fisk and Joe Quick Rds.

Mansion foundattion in second grove of trees.

I live across the street from it.

Mrs. Dale is to supposedly killed 6 husbands there and they are buried in the third grove of trees in the family plot. Btw, there are graves there. The locales got weary of all her husbands dying under "strange and mysterious circumstances" and she was asked (see told/run out) to leave the area. She is said to have moved back to Dekalb County, where her family had been one of its original settlers, to live out the rest of her life in quiet solitude till upon her death.

I live in Athens. Tommorow night, my friends and I are planning on going ghost hunting to various locations. I've been in the past, spotting a few things at cemetaries.

I was wondering if someone could give me directions to the Crybaby Holler in Decatur/Hartselle. Also, if they know of any other good places to go.

Thanks,

Spuff

Okay-I take that back. I have been to where you are talking about. Some friends and I went back there in high school but all I knew then was that it was supposedly haunted-never knew the name. Some posts had said it was on the corner of Joe Quick and the highway-so you can understand my confusion! Thanks for finally clearing that up for me.

@Hunter of oddities and anyone else interested. I have some new images in the Human Enigmas Photo Gallery. I think there still waiting approval. But you can check out some interesting pics on this website: www.phreequetripod.com

I have found it to be informative and detailed regarding certain Human Oddities.

As for Hunstville, I really hope I get to visit there one day and help put some of those restless spirits to rest. If they can only catch a glimpse or just feel a fration of God's Grace and the Pure sensation of Heaven, they would let go of this earthly life; or in their case, limbo.

I know this is probably beating the bush, but has anyone gone up to DCP lately? It took us two hours to find and then our group left us so we said screw it. It would be cool if a bunch of people from here just met up there one night.

Also, on every single website, the "WHBC Frat House/ Heritage Bible College " thing is completely fake. Anthony S. is my youth minister and he lives in mobile, one guy just got married (and he has a site, like ekisweb.com or something)and the other is my sunday school teachers son. All big jokesters. I dont know if anyone wants to like..offically mark that off but I laughed so hard about that on.

The playground is torn up. They tore it up so it could be integrated into the cemetery. I'm sorry. Dead Children's Playground is no more.

DCP lives on. The cemetery did pullup all the playground equipment and tried to do like posted above however they tore up the equipment before putting the issue before the city council and they were denied. The mayor and city council repremanded them for tearing the playgound equipment out and have since ordered new playground equipment and painted the pavillion at the top to make it a little nicer. As of last weekend the new playground equipment hadnt arrived though. My friends and I went to check it out and took some pics. dunno if posting them is ok in here so if not mods please delete.

Here is when we first walked up to the pavillion area:

Notice the orb above my friend's head

Here's the 2nd pic i took when they walked a little further down. notice the orb still above his head

linked-image

lots of orbs

picnic tables with orb chilling at one about the height of a little kid

more orbs

I assume the new playground equipment should be there soon and plan on going to check it out again when it arrives.

One last pic I just noticed an unexplained light in the top right of. I was looking back toward the pavillion/cemetery from the playground at the girl holding the flashlight. The light in the pic appears brighter than the flashlight yet there were no other lights out there. I cropped and zoomed the light.

I think it awful to tear up a historical site. I'm glad the council told the worker to replace the playground equipment so kids can play there also to also investingate on going haunt there. Thanks for telling about it, Showing those pics. I didn't see any orbs over your friend head in the first one. It look more like a post or a tree next to her.

Yeah I was sad when I heard they were going to try to get rid of it but happy to hear that the council denied them. No problem on the pics. I think your monitor may be a little too dark. Its definately there its not above the girl's head in the first picture but above the guy in the green shirt's head towards the top of the picture.

I went back last friday and the new playground equipment still isnt there. I was hoping they'd have it there in time for halloween. Took some more pics and heard what sounded like someone walking behind us at one point.

Wow I had no idea there were people on here from Huntsville. I've been reading about all the stories from here in HSV for a long time. I moved here 7 years ago and have yet to ghost hunt up here. I've wanted to see Hells Gates. I've been completely through the Carter mansion on numerous occasions (delivering wedding items)at my last job. It isn't accessible to the public and is in fact in the center of a gated community where it's near impossible to get into without prior authorization by a resident. Even then the mansion has a caretaker and is off limits unless you rent it for a wedding reception.

I have visited DCP once on my lunchbreak. It was kind of eerie, but nothing too bad.

One place I am completely fascinated with is on Mooresville Road though. I've set up many weddings there. The house is unoccupied (though furnished) and looks to be from the late 1800s. Every time I go into that house I get a heavy feeling. I used to make EVERY delivery/pickup there just to get a chance to go inside the house. Most times our customers would show up and leave after showing us where to place their things, so we've been over almost every inch of the house. We stumbled upon a basement that someone has tried to hide the stairs to.

My best experiences were in South Alabama where I'm from. I can tell too many stories about that place.

Curious (and maybe stupid) question.....................if a group of people (local ghost hunters) wanted to visit Dead Children’s Playground at night during the week, what would be the probability of us being run off?

The probability is actually very high, Huntsville City parks are supposed to be closed to the public 30 minutes after sundown. Quite often enough you get a cop that wants a place to relax so he will close the gate at DCP and hide out in there until he gets a call. I myself used to take the back way in (on the bluffs at the back of the playground) so that I would not be seen going in.

Hey let me know how it went.

Pam-Doggirl3

Maple Hill Cemetary used to be a place I would go often. I never really experienced much in the way of "Ghostly Activities" inside the cemetary itself. I did have a run in with a group of teens that thought they were vampires, they found out quickly that they could bleed like the rest of humanity. The playground on the other hand is a different story, the giggles can be heard and the swings can be seen moving at any point after 10pm. During the day the playground area is quite beautiful. There is a small cove blocked in by a large rock wall on 3 sides, lovely when the sun is out. There are trails that extend up one side of this cove and around to the other side and then drop off into a ball field on the other side of the hill. For all of you asking for directions to DCP, the easiest way is from Oakwood, take andrew jackson, go all the way through Pratt *andrew jackson turns into California* I believe Eustis St and California is the turn you need to make *left* go up just past the cemetary and take another left into a small drive, thats the playground.

I am new to the Huntsville area and wondered if anyone knew any history of the Cedar Point area. Currently, there is a home that is supposedly getting converted into a Bed and Breakfast which is pre-Civil war era. When I first moved here, I found myself attracted to an empty house that sits behind the land of this old house. The land mass itself takes up several acres. Anyway, off Pulaski Pike headed toward the Toyota plant at the turn in to Cedar Point on the left is the historical house behind some residential single family homes. The empty house which has not been sold thus far and the for sale sign has come down has a particular energy. My husband and I have noted that energy seems to extend from the land behind the house where the old restoration project is being done and where there are currently lots of dug out areas for future plumbing. We speculate that there is something to this land area, but could find no interesting history about the house in question, like perhaps it was once a plantation, perhaps it was on or near a Civil war battle ground, perhaps it was once an Indian burial site. Whatever, since the recent rains and the digging, the energy there is stronger than ever...may want to check it out and see what you "feel."

Also, I wonder if anyone knew of any specific Civil war battle grounds in the area that we could check out?

Cool pics by the way and can't wait to visit some of the leads here.
