See Cats That Aren't There

I have never heard of mystical events in which a person had the experiences your friend described.

However, as you have stated your friend cares for cats substantially.

So one potential explanation is that your friend is organizing his or her visual experiences, in relation to what he or she can see, out of the corner of his or her eye's, in such a way that cats are something he or she sees consistently, despite the fact they are not there (this behavior is akin to looking at a cloud and finding a pattern similar to and object.

Any thoughts?

I have never seen a 'ghost cat' but my cousin has. She was staying with me one time and I heard her yell from the bedroom. I ran in and she was freakin out. She told me that she saw a white cat in the room. The cat I had at the time was dark grey and was in the livingroom sleeping. :hmm: I believe that she saw something. This was the same room where my daughter saw red eyes in her toybox. :w00t:

Actually I have heard of this before. At another website (I can't remember which one), this same topic was being discussed. Apparently, many people see this small spectre out of the corner of their eye. The people that claim to see them, definitely describe forms that are more than just "floaters". They always describe them as dark, moving, and either in the shape of a cat or a more "impish" creature. Whether this is supernatural or psychological, I will not speculate....... :unsure2:

is there anyone ever saw ghost-rats.... :D

ok..back to the question..there is one possible explanation to this, that is a wierd story about shadow-people..it is said that they play tricks on us by suddenly appering in the walls as shadow, they can manifest themselves into any kind of things and also as a cat if they want..

but as u guys know this is maybe just a folklore.. :hmm:

Oh, I see cats at the corner of my eyes all the time. I have three of them (one being black, I'm a Lucky Irishman) and one time they were at the vet and could not possibly be in the house, I seemed like I saw one out of the corner of your eyes. It's just a defensive mechanism that help's ya keep alert. Don't push a bunch of pseudo-intelligence bulls*** on it.

Speaking of black cats, I do have my ability to see and hear the afterlife - including thier pets. & not long ago - a day ago saw a black cat in my bed just getting up from sleeping it looked like. It's a weird thing because I was half asleep half awake. It wasn't easy to bear that one.

Hi All,

I'm new... stumbled upon this site when I searched for "hearing voices before falling asleep" and found the thread about knocking noises, voices, etc. right before falling asleep -- glad I'm not the only one <img src="http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink2.gif" />

However, there's another search that I've been doing and haven't come up with anything yet. It's about seeing a cat(s) out of the *corner of your eye* when there is not one there.

I've been told that this can be a psychologic problem, but was wondering if perhaps since cats are associated with magic, etc., if there is any folklore out there about seeing cats that aren't really there.

I would love to hear any and all thoughts!

Its interesting, I have heard of stories of people seeing ghost cats around the house. My own grandfather claimed that often he would wake up and see a cat laying at the foot of his bed. He did not have a cat ever. Hated them in fact. His wife once even said that one night as she got up to go to the kitchen, she saw the same cat walk through the CLOSED door to go out side. My grandparents were not ones to make up stories.

Hi there... i guess i can relate.

Lately, like the last year or so... ive seen and felt a cat while sleeping.

one night while my boyfriend and i fought, i slept in our jam space (we play music) and i couldnt seem to wake up... i kept dreaming that i was right where i was, in the jam space, and leaving to go up the steps... then i would wake up (or so i thought) right back to where i started... it was strange... then i noticed i was petting a puring black cat while i was laying down... it looked at me and at the same time i thought...."wait, i dont have a cat!" I woke up for real, and went up the steps for real, and went to sleep in my own bed. It freaked me out. A month later the fight happened agean and i slept on the couch this time.... i was awake but dreaming at the same time... it was about 3am.... this time the cat was destructive and running around under the chair and couch... it was distracting... agean I do NOT own a cat....

sooooooo I visited my sister a few months age, she lives in another province, and her little boy (he is 4 now :) described seeing a black cat ripping holes in the walls of his room while he was sleeping... he is sooo cute!! I told him that i see the cat too... he then got serious and asked "what do you do??" I couldnt answer him... what is up with the cat thing?? Im not crazy, really artistic and sencitive....

I have heard of this before. This vision may be a haunting. If it is, You can make it go away by not showing any fear. You must not be afraid. Say prayers and make your living space clean and happy. Get rid of junk and clutter, put lots of love in your space by taking care of it.

few years back then, when i joined a gov camp. i seen a black and white cat at the middle of 3am standing outside our dorm. it was a scary camp i must say. it turn out that camp was an elf village. other dorm are experiences traumatize by seeing creepy beings at night. while my dorm it seems guarded frm it. i went to toilet at 3am and always sense weird stare from the dead tree near our toilet but i always bumped into the black and white cat thou. he ran if i called it. i figured that it wasnt normal cat. it clearly was just disguise of the elf. beings like that can disguise themselves after all. it seems normal to me. im not scared of em at all. it scared of me.

I've seen that too! I saw a black cat walk out of my bedroom, down the hallway, and then vanish. We own a black cat, but he is an outdoor cat only, and he is way bigger than the one I saw.

okay this thread is fairly old, but I thought I'd throw in something I heard. My mother told me some time ago, that many years ago when I was just a kid, she saw a black, small and fast figure flash by her in the kitchen (like a black cat) but she discarded it as a trick of the sunlight combined with the curtains. Later that day she got the news that her mother had died, and that she had passed away around the same time as she saw the "black cat".

So I'm leaning towards the theory about black cats being a bad omen...

I know this is an old thread but I just joined this website after googling 'I hallucinate cats everywhere what does this mean' I hallucinate people rarely, but very often i will see cats out of the corner of my eye clearly in my vision, but when i turn to look directly they have dissapeared. Its not just one cat its all different cats. I feel like a nut job saying this. They follow me everywhere... these cats that dont exist. Its a daily occurence. Im not afraid with cats nor am i obsessed with them.

I've seen phantom cats, and I love cats.

One resembled a cat I used to own but gave to my uncle when I moved house. He's still alive.

Another looked like a cat I grew up with that died 15 years ago. She appeared in the corridor of my present house, turned, seemed to walk through a little "door" and was gone.

Did your friend know any cats who passed away?

I don't believe in garbage about bad luck. Cats have been a loving pet to humans for aons. Some spirit cats still like to wander around houses and keep pesky spirits away.

Hi, I see the cat too.

I came accrossed this site tonight looking for answers or at least others that have experienced this phenomenon. I just a few hours ago seen my cat as I like to call it.

This is the third time in the last two years I have seen her. I would also like to add she is specifically a black cat each and every time I see her. I myself do not or have not ever owned a black cat. But have owned cats of other colors. Nothing bad has happened anytime I have seen the black cat its just there. Twice have I seen it just walk buy me close to where I was standing or sitting. Only once have I seen it head on and it was standing looked at me and walked away, then was gone.

Tonight I seen the cat at a friends house. I was watching TV with a group of friends then I seen a black cat walk buy our legs and under a table. It was kind of dark I'm the room and the light source was on the other side of the room. But I for sure seen a black cat walk buy our legs. I was so convinced I called for my Buddy's cat which is a black cat to come out from under the table. My friends looked at me weird and said they just let Kittie out side before I got there and that they had seen no cat. My friend who's house I was visiting even leaned over and looked under the table just to make sure and no cat. To top the whole thing off when I left I let kittie (my friends black cat) inside his home.

I don't know what's going on maybe someone will eventually see all these posts and have a full on answer for myself and the others. I'm just glad that others have seen this and it could be looked at as a possible phenomenon rather then just being crazy.

I usually see them whenever I'm looking down at my phone or just concentrating on something. Like, they're sorta fuzzy black shadows, but obviously a cat, and not just in my peripheral vision.. But I never thought anything of it until I saw this. Compared to every other 'weird' thing that happens to me, it's pretty normal feeling. Nothing bad ever happens after, and I just figure they're passing through or something. I do love cats as well, and have a very strong connection with them. Cats are pretty independent animals, and were guardians of temples in ancient Egypt to ward off evil. They are protectors of the other worlds secrets and are symbols of good luck, resurrection, mystery, spiritual guardians and knowledge. The bad luck-bad omen thing was a misinterpretation of a widely believed folk-lore. Black doesn't always mean evil. That's a superstition itself.

I think I've seen one before as well. I also saw some spirit that was like a transparent human with no details just the outline by my dad when i was talking to him one night.

I see the "cats" on a pretty daily basis... but I think it's probably just my brain trying to rationalize what's actually being seen. I might actually be seeing something as mundane as a strand of my hair swaying, or a fly buzzing by... but since I, like your "friend", am an avid cat-lover, I think my brain is just filling in "Undetermined Peripheral Movement" as "Cat".

Neither... Like I said before, it seems to me it's just the brain misinterpreting what the eye can just barely see.

Weird because my sister saw it with me unless were both misinterpreting it. I thought i saw something move and she said she saw a black cat or a shadow cat.

You could have easily both actually seen something move... But that doesn't mean it was actually what your sister thinks it was. I notice you don't yourself claim to have identified it as a cat, just a "something" that moved.
