I tried the whole drown it and cover it with salt bit. Do you know how long it takes to drown a fly? Forever...it started twitching a bit after a while, but it didn't crawl around. I probably goofed up the whole thing.

...you may have goofed up something - perhaps too long in the water (it only needs long enough till it stops moving).

...the whole point of it is - it's a party trick. As I said it doesn't really die, it just gets knocked out. Just like you can revive a person by mouth-2-mouth shortly after drowning (I wouldn't recommend mouth-2-mouth with a fly lol) the salt on the fly absorbs the water & revives it.

And I have done it at least 4 times in the past. There has been one time it didn't work - I may have really drowned it *hangs head in shame* - but they're pesky little things
