Mysterious story

Hi guys,

I stumbled upon this story some time ago and for some reason it spooked the heck out of me, eventhough most likely the true explanation of it - which is yet to be discovered - has nothing to do with paranormal stuff. It's a well known true Russian story which mystifies researchers to this very day. I searched on Google and couldn't find any mention of it in the English speaking part of the Internet, so I thought I'd take time and try to translate it to English as far as my pretty limited English skills allow (I'm Russian myself).

On January 23, 1959 a group of 9 Russian hikers from the Ural Polytechic University led by Igor Dyatlov went on a hike to the Ural Mountains (7 guys and two gals - Igor Dyatlov, Alexander Kolevatov, Rustem Slobodin, Yuri Krivonischenko, Nikolay Tibo-Briniol, Yuri Doroshenko, Alexander Zolotarev, Ludmila Dubinina, Zina Kolmogorova). They were supposed to return to the base camp on February 12 and then let the University know they were alright by a telegram. On January 31 they reached the upper Auspia river where they planned to leave a part of their stuff and food in a temporary camp, and then next day to take a trip with light baggage 6 miles north to the Otorten mountain (which is more like a big smooth hill). It's only around 14:00 next day after finally setting up their camp in the woods surrounding the mountain they moved out and began their ascent on the gentle mountain slope to the summit. For whatever reason they decided to spend the following night right on the bare windy slope instead of going to the woods - probably because they had realized that by the time they would have gotten there it would have been too dark to set up a camp. Anyway, it was no big deal to spend a night on a windy slope for such experienced hikers as they all were, so they set up a tent, ate some food and then hit the sack.

Fast forward in time, the University didn't recieve their telegram on February 12. At that point no one worried yet - some delay may have happened due to weather etc. It's only on Februray 20 the University sent out a first rescue group, with several more following, and a few days later it became a big rescue operation with military and police aircrafts and choppers searching the places the Dyatlov's group might have been.

On February 26 they finally found their tent on the mountain. It had all their stuff inside - equipment, food, clothes. One tent's side had several long cuts - as later determined made from the inside - as if they left the tent in panic with no time to go through the entrance so they cut their way through with a knife. There were no any signs of a struggle in and around the tent. The only footprints in the snow went from their self-made tent exit down the slope to the woods below. Most of the footprints were barefoot and were said to belong to 8-9 different people. The footprints ended approx 500 meters from the tent, covered with snow from that point.

Later this day, an airplan discovered first bodies. 1500 meters away from the tent right where the woods began they found remains of a campfire under a big cedar tree. Bodies of two men - Doroshenko and Krivonischenko - were found lying around this campfire, naked. As later an autopsy concluded the cause of their deaths was hypothermia. No any injuries were found aside from a few minor scratches. 300 meters away from these bodies up the mountain and towards the tent, the body of Igor Dyatlov was found. He was lying on his back embrasing a small birch with one hand. 180 meters from his body farther towards the tent the body of Rustem Slobodin was found, and 150 meters from his body, again farther towards the tent, the body of a female member Zina Kolmogorova was discovered. Both Rustem and Zina were lying face down in dynamic poses as if they were trying to crawl up to the tent right until the moment they died. There was blood around the Zina's head which came out of her mouth. The cause of death for all three - Dyatlov, Slobodin, and Kolmogorova - was found to be hypothermia as well, with Dyatlov and Kolmogorova having no any injuries. Slobodin, however, had a crack in the skull with no skin and tissue damage, which was not the cause of his death though.

The search for the rest of the members continued for nearly two months. Only on May 4, 75 meters away from the camfire deeper in the woods and under 4 meters of snow they finally found bodies of the other 4 members. The Alexander Kolevatov's body had a few head injuries and the cause of his death was hypothermia. The other three died from severe internal injuries - Ludmila Dubinina had her ribs crushed on both sides of chest and died because of internal bleeding. She also had her whole tounge missing. Alexander Zolotarev had his ribs all broken too and died of the same reason. Tibo-Briniol had his skull badly crushed which was the cause of his death. All of them had no skin and tissue damage.

There are a lot more little strange details here and there that complicate the issue even more - like an unusual orange tint to their skin the forensics team reported, a higher than normal radiation level of some of their clothes, and much more.

A lot of different theories and explanations have been offered, none of them either fit the evidence, or make sense. Why and from what they panically ran away naked in the middle of the night at -30C temperature and what happended next, is still a puzzle.

The fiftieth years in Soviet Union have been marked unprecedented before by blossoming of sports tourism, is especial in the student's environment. Clubs and section were created almost in each HIGH SCHOOL, and after the termination(ending) of session at stations almost daily it was possible to meet young guys in штормовках and with the backpacks, going in the next campaign. The new kind of sports has quickly found popularity as alongside with good physical and technical training enabled visitings the new places, interesting meetings, and, certainly, easy dialogue with each other. Therefore even today at the matured students of that time the most light and joyful memoirs on a youth basically are connected to campaigns.

Tragedies were frequent also. There were they, and frequently in the most ridiculous image, from small still experience, from reassessment of the forces and underestimation of external dangers. How here to not recollect визборовские a line: " the Stone hardly was rocked forward and has rushed downwards, to the river. Twenty one useless year has hung on the right hand ". Besides the technics(technical equipment) and tactics of passage of complex(difficult) routes then still was in a stage of becoming. And to this day on mountain passes, above river thresholds it is possible to see memorial boards and beaten out names - in memory of those who has remained here for ever.

However, typing(collecting) experience, tourist groups began to appear not only on traditional routes, but also and in those places where the leg(foot) of the person if went earlier not every year. And then tourists willy-nilly became already землепроходцами which on the way could meet when necessary and everything. Probably, therefore some unfortunate and tragical cases carried not quite clear and even inexplicable character.

One of such histories is connected to destruction in the north of Sverdlovsk area in the winter of 1959 of group of skiers from the Ural polytechnical institute under the direction of Igor Djatlova. Mysterious circumstances of tragedy and the subsequent засекреченность have generated weight of hearings, versions, assumptions. But the true did not manage to be established till now.

And today we can speak only about the separate parties(sides) of event which are more - less obvious.

In a campaign they have left on twenty third of January, ten together. Twenty seventh in 2-nd northern settlement group was left by Jury Yudin who because of illness has been compelled to leave from a route. The following four days skiers went through absolutely not occupied district - where on tracks манси, where on ice of the frozen rivers. However, by дневниковым to records, the campaign passed without any special complications. (the Card(Map) of places where events were developed(unwrapped). On thirty first of January the group has left to верховьям the rivers Auspii. Further under the plan of a campaign it was supposed to leave a part of equipment and products in a warehouse, to descend(go) налегке on mountain Otorten which was approximately in ten kilometers to the north, to return and continue a route in a southern direction.

The wood zone here came to an end - the further way up to itself Отортена laid on безлесным to foothills. Almost at border of a wood tourists have stopped on spending the night. Morning of the next day left on statement of a warehouse. Only by 15 o'clock all gathering have been finished, and the group started rise from anonymous pass between tops "1079" and "880".

On other party(side) of pass in one and a half kilometers the wood - a valley of the river Lozvy again began. Why tourists have not gone down in him(it)? It is known, that in a wood is warmer, than on безлесной than district in the winter, the wind is weaker, and fuel more - it is possible to dissolve a high-grade fire, instead of to heat tent печкой. Probably, Woodpeckers was afraid what in this case to put camp it is necessary already in darkness, or it(he) would not like to lose the typed height and for the next day again to rise on a ridge. Anyhow, but approximately at 17 o'clock on February, 1, 1959 дятловцы have begun to put tent on a slope of top open to all winds "1079" (she(it) - mountain Holat-Sjahyl). It has been established later, after display of a film from the found camera. By дневниковым to records and the let out(released) evening wall newspaper, the mood at guys that day was quite fighting.

They yet did not know, that in so habitual camp works are engaged last time. That tomorrow's day for which they expected to reach mountain Otorten, for them will not come(step) any more. Also that anonymous pass will soon name in memory of their group, and on all cards(maps) of area it(he) will refer to by name their head - pass Djatlova.

... On twelfth of February under the plan of a campaign the group should arrive to settlement Vizhaj and the telegram to notify institute спортклуб on the termination(ending) of a route. Telegrams were not, but firstly anybody strongly did not worry about it - дятловцы were considered as skilled tourists. Only on February, 20 the management(manual) of institute on route Дятлова had been sent the first search group, and then some more groups. Further search works have accepted the even greater scope - soldiers and officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been involved in them, planes and helicopters of civil and military aircraft.

And on February, 26 on east slope of top "1079" the tent has been found. Its(her) lee side where tourists settled down heads, appeared is cut from within in two places so, that through these cuts(sections) there could be freely a person. Below it(her) during 500 meters on a snow traces of people going to valley Лозьвы were kept. Some of them have been left by almost barefooted leg(foot), others had characteristic display of a valenok or a leg(foot), обутой in soft носок. Closer to border of a wood traces disappeared, brought by a snow. Neither in tent, nor near to it(her) attributes of struggle or presence of other people it was revealed not.

This very day the search group has come across and more terrible finds - in one and a half kilometers from tent, at the border of a wood, about the rests of a fire corpses of two Jurys undressed up to underwear - Дорошенко and Кривонищенко have been found. Branches of a cedar about which they laid, have been broken off. In 300 meters from a fire in the direction of tent have found out a body of the head of group. Woodpeckers laid on a back, a head aside tents, a hand having clasped a trunk of a small birch. In 180 m from him(it) have found corpse Рустема Слободина, and in 150 m from Слободина - Зины Колмогоровой. They laid persons downwards in dynamic poses - guys from last forces tried to crawl to the left tent...

By the lead(the carried out) medicolegal examination it has been established, that Woodpeckers, Дорошенко, Кривонищенко and Kolmogorov have died from action of low temperature - on their bodies have not found out any damages, except for fine scratchs and grazes. Слободин had a crack of a skull, however experts have established, that his(its) death also has come(stepped) from overcooling.

Searches of the others proceeded still almost two months. And only on fourth of May in 75 meters from a fire under a four-meter layer of a snow corpses Люды Дубининой, Sashi Zolotaryov, Nikolay Tibo-Brinjolja and Саши Колеватова have been found. On a body of the last also there were no damages. The others had heavy traumas. At Дубининой symmetric crisis of several edges was, the death has come(stepped) from an extensive haemorrhage in heart. At Zolotaryov edges on the right on окологрудной and среднеключичной lines are broken. Тибо-Бриньоль had an extensive haemorrhage in the right temporal muscle and the pressed crisis of bones of a skull.

On the found bodies and near to them there were trousers and sweaters of the rest at fire Кривонищенко and Дорошенко. All clothes had equal traces of cuts(sections) as though it was removed from corpses - alive tried to be warmed by things of already died comrades. Victims Тибо-Бриньоль and Zolotaryov have been dressed well enough, it is worse than Dubinin - its(her) jacket from artificial fur and шапочка appeared on Zolotaryov, and разутая the leg(foot) is wrapped up in woolen trousers Кривонищенко.

Beside knife Кривонищенко by which at a fire young firs for a flooring, most likely, were cut off laid. Two hours on hand Тибо-Бриньоля have stopped almost at a time - one showed 8 hours of 14 minutes, others - 8 hours of 39 minutes...

" Taking into account absence on corpses of external physical injuries and attributes of struggle, presence of all values of group, and also considering the conclusion of medicolegal examination about the reasons of death of tourists, it is necessary to count, that the reason of destruction of tourists was the force majeure, overcome which tourists be unable to ". With such formulation on May, 28, 1959 criminal case on the fact of destruction of group Djatlova has been stopped.

Business is stopped, but the secret has remained.

Within the next years numerous attempts were undertaken on the basis of available materials to understand, that has taken place on a slope of mountain Holat-Sjahyl at night with 1 for February, 2, 1959. The diversified versions - from quite plausible up to improbable and even crazy were put forward. But any of them and could not explain all circumstances of this tragedy.

Мансийская the version. Hearings about a violent death of tourists have spread across Sverdlovsk at once after the first finds on pass. Assumptions of participation in destruction of group Djatlova local мансийского the population have arisen and at law enforcement bodies, moreover - they were fulfilled by one of the first. According to the given version, tourists have passed through the places considered at манси sacred, and pagans have severely finished with "profaners". Hardly spoke even about application of hypnosis by them and психотронных methods of influence later.

Really, these places are mentioned in мансийском folklore. In A.K.Matveeva's book " Tops of the Stone belt(zone). Names of mountains of Ural " in this occasion the following is spoken: " Холат-Сяхыл, mountain (1079 м) on a water-separate ridge between верховьями Лозьвы and its(her) inflow Ауспии to 15 km on ЮЮВ from Отортена. Мансийское "Холат" - "deadmen", that is Холат-Сяхыл - mountain of deadmen. There is a legend, that at this top once was lost nine манси. Sometimes add, that it happened during a Flood. Under other version, at a flood hot water has flooded all around, except for a place at top of mountain, sufficient to lie to the person. But манси, found here a shelter, has died. From here and the name of mountain... "

However mountains Otorten and Холат-Сяхыл are not at манси sacred. On the conclusion of forensic scientists, craniocereberal traumas at Тибо-Бриньоля and Слободина could not be put by a stone or other weapon - then external fabrics would be inevitably damaged(injured). And inspectors, having interrogated many local hunters and having studied circumstances of an affair, in a result have come on this account to the following conclusion:

" … by the Made investigation it is not established presence on February, 1 and 2, 1959 in area of height other 1079 people, except for group of tourists Дятлова. It is established also, that the population of a nationality(national character) манси, living in 80-100 km from this place, concerns to Russian friendly, gives tourists a lodging for the night, helps to them, etc. The Place where the group was lost, during winter time is considered at манси unsuitable for hunting and reindeer breeding ".

Spirits. In a circle were fond оккультизмом and magic мансийская the version has a little bit other treatment - дятловцы have come on the bewitched place and have fallen victim certain потусторонних сущностей. Comments here, as they say, излишни. Approximately at the same level of plausibility there is also a version about participation in destruction of tourists " descendants ancient ариев " or so-called " dwarfs арктиды " - the mythical northern people living in underground caves. By the way, she(it) is considered(examined) in Sergey Alekseeva's novel of " Treasure Валькирии ". Roman in own way fascinating and fascinating, but, nevertheless, fantastic...

However … In мансийском language name Отортен means " literally do not go there ". As the folklore and toponymics of northern peoples are created by a principle " that I see - about that and I sing ", the question - whether casually by itself arises?

Зачистка. There is in Russia rather numerous category of people which are not missing a superfluous occasion to show, in what "awful" country we lived. In any enigmatic event of the last century they first of all start to search (and, as a rule, find) a trace of "allmighty" militarians or " maniacs from People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs ". The destruction of group Djatlova exception for them did not begin.

In some publications the version "зачистки" is considered(examined) almost as the basic. Two its(her) variants are most distributed. According to the first, to parking дятловцев has left " эскадрон death " Ивдельлага, created for punishment of the prisoners who have run from camps at night. Having accepted tourists for fluent "convicts", security guards butts (!) of the automatic devices render fatal wounds to first four, got under a hand, and then, having convinced of the mistake, finish the others. In the second case дятловцев have ostensibly removed as undesirable witnesses of unsuccessful test of a rocket or any other kind of the weapon. As a variant - have not removed, and simply gave to die, not rendering on a place of the necessary help.

Clearly, that presently similar "versions" are rather popular at начитавшихся the corresponding literature of not too competent inhabitants. But to any normal person though little bit understanding in questions of military science, rocket technics(technical equipment) and tourism even after a passing their full inconsistency becomes visible.

First of all, some reasons concerning " эскадрона death ". All of us know, that the intellectual level of security guards of camps is insignificant. But not so, to not give to think: at fluent "convicts" of tourist tent could not be! And to hide traces of inevitable struggle near that tent (seven strong guys, certainly, would show resistance) in case of an attack it would be very difficult. And, - the main thing, - on the persons who have made runaway, protection had the right to open fire at once on defeat.

Speak, that the hearing about " эскадроне death " started to be distributed after in one of camps Ivdellaga the song ostensibly written on verses Дятлова has appeared. But later it was found out, that actually Igor of verses never wrote...

Even more silly the version about group of the militarians who have arrived(flied) on a place of falling of an emergency rocket (about as far as the rocket version as such is real, we we shall talk hardly later) looks. They have ostensibly landed nearby by the helicopter and, having seen injured tourists, have finished them, then dramatized installation of tent in a unsafe place, and bodies... Have scattered from the helicopter (!) to cover up traces. Thus four corpses have punched a two-meter hole in a snow, and branches of a cedar have been broken off by one more of falling bodies!

Statement on it I shall finish - me sadly already because, that in my country in general there are people, capable to perceive this bosh seriously, moreover to let out(release) her(it) on pages of newspapers and books. In fact even if to assume, that someone very much should hide the reason of destruction of group the decision lays on a surface - to collect corpses and the staying things, to allocate(remove) kilometers for hundred, where to search nobody will be exact, and to dump(reset) in one of numerous bogs in those edges(territories). And then there would be in general no investigation, any necessity to involve in business of new people with which then to take a subscription about nondisclosure - group simply would disappear in a taiga. And on is not present, as is known, and the court is not present!

How you think, whether have admitted(allowed) in that case to participation in search works, besides militarians and militia, also volunteers, students of the same УПИ? And if after almost month of winds and snowfalls it was possible to find out traces of people which have run from tent from the chassis of the landing helicopter the search group would not pass(miss) a mark.

At last, even if to assume, that дятловцев the fallen rocket, clearly has really ruined, that nobody would depart her(it) to search at night! And by examination it has been unequivocally established, that the death of guys has come(stepped) approximately in 6-8 hours after last reception of food, that is till a dawn they have not lived... For the same reason are deprived any sense and conversations about оставлении in a helpless condition.

But even it yet the biggest absurd. It was necessary to hear, that militarians have ostensibly appeared on a place of tragedy at once, as... Accompanied with a rocket by two planes fly on both parties(sides) of the Ural ridge. As the engineer, I shall notice: the plane which is capable "to accompany" with a flying rocket (and that not ballistic, but winged) and today cannot make landing(planting) in mountain area on an one-and-a-half-meter snow!

At last, about the things which found on a place of destruction дятловцев and have been not identified by Jury Yudin which frequently result as the indirect demonstration of presence on pass of extraneous people. Among them glasses on-4 …-4.5 dioptries, a soldier's winding, эбонитовые ножны, circles, spoons are mentioned... It is especially spoken about the tenth "superfluous" pair skis found near to tent.

I was in the most different campaigns and expeditions(dispatches) much. But if передо me have spread out contents of backpacks of all participants, up to last handkerchief and spare glasses, to define(determine), to whom that belongs, would be for me rather not trivial problem(task). Especially if (allow the God!) it was necessary to assort things of already dead comrades... By the way, about glasses. I recollect a "terrible" reason - among tourists seldom there are people short-sightedness "-4"! Probably, the author of it(him) believes, that in army, especially - in special units, such visual acuity is the ordinary phenomenon …

The "Superfluous" pair skis, and sometimes and not one, is present practically at any serious winter campaign as wooden skis (and at that time others were not) have unpleasant feature to break during the most improper moment. And hardly mythical "спецотряд" would leave on a place of the work so appreciable traces.

As if to засекреченности circumstances of an affair so in fact it then was norm. And if to recollect, that tragical events have taken place shortly before opening in Sverdlovsk of the world championship on skating sports becomes clear, that conversations on similar themes were completely not necessary for authorities.

Tests of the exotic weapon. Most frequently sources " from broad masses of the public " mention the vacuum weapon, not knowing, that the first samples of such ammunition in the USSR have appeared only in 10 years after described events. Besides even usual artillery shells test not in a deaf(an indistinct) taiga, and on the range always possessing the rather specific infrastructure - in fact important is not simple " to jerk железку ", but also to observe behind process. Especially, if the question is creation of the weapon essentially new. And if at that time such range existed, it(he) would be protected not worse Semipalatinsk - Дятлова to it(him) and close would not admit.

As if to the deliberate latent tests "something" in public, this version from the same series, as all conversations about "зачистке". Because even such problem(task) be put, it is much easier to find victims among prisoners, than to track down in a winter wood lonely tourist group.

The rocket version (a part 1). Otherwise affairs are at tests only one kind of the weapon - rocket. In this case the distance between range from which start is carried out, and the range - purpose can be estimated in thousand kilometers. And in default in any of numerous systems of a product it can quite fall not there where it is necessary.

Occurrence of the rocket version, certainly, was promoted by messages on occurrence in vicinities Отортена mysterious " luminous spheres ". Some of them even have been fixed in materials of consequence(investigation), - for example, the official report of technics - meteorologist Tokarevoj resulted in clause(article) Roll Головиной. In business is also G.Atmanaki's indication, the head of group of tourists - students геофака a teacher's college, making a campaign in the same area. After returning it(he) has told, that observed a luminous sphere above mountain Otorten at night from the first for February, second - that is just when were lost дятловцы.

Not clear heavenly phenomena proceeded and observed even during search works! For this reason the rocket version till now is the most popular among enthusiasts of investigation of destruction of group Djatlova. Thus, basically, speak about test of combat missiles and about неудавшемся space start.

But the last disappears at once. Also put at all that at the appointed time any start of rockets of space purpose(assignment) was not carried out(was not spent) about what there are incontestable data. And not that flying РКН for that period at us royal "seven" - a product not the smallest was unique, falling of the accelerator of which any step would leave rather appreciable traces on district. Start from Baikonur on a trajectory which would pass above the specified area, simply are not made - in this case the rocket would start in a direction opposite to rotation of the Earth that is rather power-intensive operation. In Plesetsk construction of the first launcher for intercontinental ballistic missiles has been completed only in December, 1959, and the decision on use of starting complexes МБР for start of satellites is accepted only in 1963.

Now about combat missiles. Soviet МБР then the same was unique Р-7. Лётно-design tests of the following, Р-9А and Р-16, have begun only in the spring of 1961. From rockets of average and small range speech can go about Р-12 (the maximal range - 2000 kilometers), Р-5М (1200 km) and Р-11М (300 km). Test start-up БРСД were carried out(spent) from range Kapustin Jar on range Sary-Shagan in vicinities of lake Balkhash in Kazakhstan. Thus, the line of flight passed far enough from area interesting us, and theoretically to get there could only Р-12. And for this purpose she(it) should deviate a rate so strongly, that the probability of such event is represented rather small. It is known, the truth that start-up on range on New Land were carried out(spent) also, but there was it much later, in 1963.

Whether the rocket from any other point could be started? This version the same as also rocket, follows, basically, from supervision of luminous spheres. It is very strange they of conducted. I shall result one of supervision of the full member of the Geographical society of the USSR, the researcher of the nature O.Shtrauha:

And that is why. Most likely, during the moment "X" at least one person was outside of tent - traces of urine testify to it on a snow and found on пологе a small lamp. The cut tent testifies at all to the horror which has captured tourists, and opposite, about good self-control - in an extreme situation it was accepted the true decision is unique. Besides in a panic condition when the mentality is not supervised any more by reason and on the foreground the instinct of self-preservation leaves, the person usually runs where eyes look, if only far away from a dangerous place. So was in 1973 in Yakutia in area of mountain Alaktit when under so mysterious circumstances the group of geologists was lost. In two-three kilometers from hasty left(abandoned) tent their corpses without any traces of a violent death later have found. Everyone have been easily dressed, others even without footwear - as is similar! Here only in that case people ran up as though with a fan, everyone in the party(side). Дятловцы quite is organized have left in one direction. And not mad crowd, and almost a trace in a trace, one after another, as well as it is necessary to move on a deep snow!

The different degree of the damages caused to people, speaks that under influence of the certain amazing factor all group has got not. The idea arises, that during this moment the part of her(it) was already covered in a wood, and somebody else was on a slope. To lag behind leaving group quite could 37-years Alexander Zolotaryov and not the most hardy of Ljuda Dubinin. And Nikolay Tibo-Brinjol and, probably, Рустем Слободин, having noticed backlog of comrades, have remained with them...

There is also one more very interesting moment. Why tourists, hastily having left(abandoned) tent, have run on northeast to inflow Лозьвы, instead of a southeast to a warehouse? In fact there there were warm things, products, equipment, old костровище?.. And distance from tent up to a warehouse and up to a place where bodies have been found out, about identical. Axelrod explains it to that guys, having become puzzled, have mixed a direction and the mistake have found out, only appearing below. Probably and so. But the following fact - is interesting according to a weather service, a wind that night on pass of barrels from northwest, that, by the way, almost coincides with a prevailing direction of winds in this place. That is guys left perpendicularly to a direction of a wind! So leave from the same nuclear explosion or from a poisonous cloud - in manuals on a civil defence of that time such recommendations already were present and дятловцы for certain with them were familiar.

So the luminous sphere which saw that night above mountains, most likely, has the most direct attitude(relation) to destruction of group. But, what his(its) nature was, one is undoubtedly - the Ural students becoming after a tourist legend, have courageously accepted on east slope of mountain Holat-Sjahyl unequal fight with Unknown. Also have shown in it to fight the best human qualities.

Today the rare tourist group making a campaign in described places, passes by pass Djatlova. Already new generation of tourists assigns flowers to the memorial board established on a place of their destruction сверстников. New guys, sitting at the fires and peering to the public hanging stars above the Ural ridge, try to solve, that all has taken place on this place forty years ago.

Destruction of group of Igor Djatlova - one of riddles of our planet. Same as "Maria Tselesty's" secret and " Sacred Anna ", planes Sigizmunda Levanevskogo and Amelia Erhart, expeditions(dispatches) Фоссета and … the List can be continued Rusanov. Whether they will be sometime opened? As we already could be convinced, till now there is no consistent version which could explain and coordinate among themselves all known circumstances and the facts. Such it happens in two cases - or the part of "facts" is invented, or we till now do not know something …

And still it would be desirable to mention here what.

Guys from group Djatlova were lost in 1959, and we remember them till now, thanking, first of all, to their friends from УПИ. What combed a snow-covered taiga with search groups. What till now store(keep) memory of the lost comrades. And to those people which never knew them because were born already after their destruction, but every year come back to a monument forgotten in mountains.

In 10 years after destruction дятловцев in ice waves of the taiga river Udy Valery Grushin which name has found immortality first of all also due to friends - to students КуАИ will step.

Certainly, the list of tourists, left to last road, is not limited to these names. Hi guys,

I stumbled upon this story some time ago and for some reason it spooked the heck out of me, eventhough most likely the true explanation of it - which is yet to be discovered - has nothing to do with paranormal stuff. It's a well known true Russian story which mystifies researchers to this very day. I searched on Google and couldn't find any mention of it in the English speaking part of the Internet, so I thought I'd take time and try to translate it to English as far as my pretty limited English skills allow (I'm Russian myself).

On January 23, 1959 a group of 9 Russian hikers from the Ural Polytechic University led by Igor Dyatlov went on a hike to the Ural Mountains (7 guys and two gals - Igor Dyatlov, Alexander Kolevatov, Rustem Slobodin, Yuri Krivonischenko, Nikolay Tibo-Briniol, Yuri Doroshenko, Alexander Zolotarev, Ludmila Dubinina, Zina Kolmogorova). They were supposed to return to the base camp on February 12 and then let the University know they were alright by a telegram. On January 31 they reached the upper Auspia river where they planned to leave a part of their stuff and food in a temporary camp, and then next day to take a trip with light baggage 6 miles north to the Otorten mountain (which is more like a big smooth hill). It's only around 14:00 next day after finally setting up their camp in the woods surrounding the mountain they moved out and began their ascent on the gentle mountain slope to the summit. For whatever reason they decided to spend the following night right on the bare windy slope instead of going to the woods - probably because they had realized that by the time they would have gotten there it would have been too dark to set up a camp. Anyway, it was no big deal to spend a night on a windy slope for such experienced hikers as they all were, so they set up a tent, ate some food and then hit the sack.

Fast forward in time, the University didn't recieve their telegram on February 12. At that point no one worried yet - some delay may have happened due to weather etc. It's only on Februray 20 the University sent out a first rescue group, with several more following, and a few days later it became a big rescue operation with military and police aircrafts and choppers searching the places the Dyatlov's group might have been.

On February 26 they finally found their tent on the mountain. It had all their stuff inside - equipment, food, clothes. One tent's side had several long cuts - as later determined made from the inside - as if they left the tent in panic with no time to go through the entrance so they cut their way through with a knife. There were no any signs of a struggle in and around the tent. The only footprints in the snow went from their self-made tent exit down the slope to the woods below. Most of the footprints were barefoot and were said to belong to 8-9 different people. The footprints ended approx 500 meters from the tent, covered with snow from that point.

Later this day, an airplan discovered first bodies. 1500 meters away from the tent right where the woods began they found remains of a campfire under a big cedar tree. Bodies of two men - Doroshenko and Krivonischenko - were found lying around this campfire, naked. As later an autopsy concluded the cause of their deaths was hypothermia. No any injuries were found aside from a few minor scratches. 300 meters away from these bodies up the mountain and towards the tent, the body of Igor Dyatlov was found. He was lying on his back embrasing a small birch with one hand. 180 meters from his body farther towards the tent the body of Rustem Slobodin was found, and 150 meters from his body, again farther towards the tent, the body of a female member Zina Kolmogorova was discovered. Both Rustem and Zina were lying face down in dynamic poses as if they were trying to crawl up to the tent right until the moment they died. There was blood around the Zina's head which came out of her mouth. The cause of death for all three - Dyatlov, Slobodin, and Kolmogorova - was found to be hypothermia as well, with Dyatlov and Kolmogorova having no any injuries. Slobodin, however, had a crack in the skull with no skin and tissue damage, which was not the cause of his death though.

The search for the rest of the members continued for nearly two months. Only on May 4, 75 meters away from the camfire deeper in the woods and under 4 meters of snow they finally found bodies of the other 4 members. The Alexander Kolevatov's body had a few head injuries and the cause of his death was hypothermia. The other three died from severe internal injuries - Ludmila Dubinina had her ribs crushed on both sides of chest and died because of internal bleeding. She also had her whole tounge missing. Alexander Zolotarev had his ribs all broken too and died of the same reason. Tibo-Briniol had his skull badly crushed which was the cause of his death. All of them had no skin and tissue damage.

There are a lot more little strange details here and there that complicate the issue even more - like an unusual orange tint to their skin the forensics team reported, a higher than normal radiation level of some of their clothes, and much more.

A lot of different theories and explanations have been offered, none of them either fit the evidence, or make sense. Why and from what they panically ran away naked in the middle of the night at -30C temperature and what happended next, is still a puzzle.

As for the nakedness i might be able to offer a explanation although its unlikely, i seen on tv once on one of these survival programs like ray mears that was teaching you how to survive in the freezing cold and supposedly if you get you're clothes wet you have to strip totally naked and rub soft snow (none of the slushy stuff) all over you're body, its ment to insulate you or something.

What i said isnt really likely bit its all i can think of. Thats one of the weirdest stories ive ever heard. Its nearly as weird as the story i seen in the paper of the ship they found in the middle of an ocean that had no one on board and seemed recently used, even the dinner tables etc were set.

A werewolf attacked then some alien attacked them! or the fire when out, a lightning bolt melted the zipper they cut their way out to start the fire, wolves chased them some hit their heads on branches, the blood could be re-bleed after the snow cleared the area of their blood, the odd skin color could be due to a lightning bold so close them making radiation making sick skin.

I read that they closed the area down for 2 years. Just wondering if anything else out of the ordinary has happened since...
