“Kisap-mata”

Class/Caste: Engkanto

Rank: n/a

Basic Description:

Little black creatures not more than three feet in height. Large blood red eyes, sharp teeth, long sharp claws, and black complexion: natural description of the said creatures. They travel in packs and they are very agile and very swift.

The reason is self-explanatory on to why they are called “kisap-mata”. They can only be seen for half a second. If you flinch, they will be in yet another area (near you if you are their unfortunate target) and they enjoy playing, toying with their victims. Though there are a few incidents of them actually “killing” anybody, there is a chance that they would try to do it to you if you grant them a chance.

Weakness: Salt, fire, and prayers.

How to protect yourself: Travel in groups and never travel alone especially in unfamiliar barrios. Arming yourself with faith and prayers will protect you always.

---

“Tik-tik”

Class/Caste: Aswang

Rank: n/a

Basic Description:

Everything about this creature is reverse. If you see him/her beatiful then he/she is actually ugly, vice-versa. If you see the creature far away then he/she is actually near, vice-versa. If you see the creature in the air then he/she is actually on the ground, vice-versa. If you see him/her in front of you then he/she is actually behind you, and vice-versa. And so on and so forth…. You’ll know a “tik-tik” when you hear its distinct sound/noise, “Tik! Tik! Tik! Tik!”

They most of the time live in the provinces though there have been instances that such creatures found themselves in the suburbs (where and/or when, classified).

They enjoy feeding on sickly children, babies (especially the unborn ones), and sometimes animals (cows, horses, dogs, etc.). They use their long tongues to injest the guts of their victims.

Weakness: Salt, religious icons/objects, fire, sharp blades, and prayers.

How to protect yourself: I do not suggest going face to face with a “tik-tik”. Best way to survive one is to get indoors and praying for protection. If you encounter one outside, run! Run and find shelter as fast as you can.

---

“Kaway”

Class/Caste: Unknown

Rank: Unknown

Basic Description:

Not much is know of the “kaway” or if its even a creature at all. Natives in the north of Luzon believes they are engkantos though elders believe them to be the soul/essence of the trees themselves.

When you encounter a tree who partially waves at you (sometimes only a few of the leaves wave at you) and it is evident that there were no winds to help with the said incident then you have encountered a “kaway”.

They’re not really dangerous. In fact, pagan belief says that the leaves of a “kaway” is a very strong good luck charm.

Weakness: Anything that can harm the tree itself.

How to protect yourself: Prayer.

---

“Bato-bato”

Class/Caste: Elemental (Earth/Soil)

Rank: Fae Slave

Basic Description:

Hulking humanoid creatures made out of rock ranging from 6-8 feet in height. These creatures’ skin tone range from gray to dark brown. They can either be made up of earth minerals (yes, even diamonds and the like).

Guards sacred grounds of fae. Sacred grounds vary from enchanted ponds to sacred grounds for fae like forests and caves. Reaching such grounds would trigger these creatures to move. They appear to be ordinary statues or rock formations at first but entering sacred grounds would prove otherwise. But then ask yourself, why on earth would there be statues in the middle of the forest?

Dangerous if you defile these sacred grounds. You could have yourselves killed or worse, a slave.

Weakness: Very, very slow so I suggest running as fast as you can. There are other weaknesses which would render it immobile and render it as a pile of dirt but I would rather not post it here. ^^

How to protect yourself: Don’t go wondering off into uncharted parts of the forest. That simple.

---

“Forest/Mountain Dwarves”

Class/Caste: Elemental, Dwende (Forest/Mountain)

Rank: Childe (yep, childe not child)

Description:

Dwarves who live in the forest and mountain areas. They are garbed in colorful clothes. If you’ve seen Snow White and the Seven Dwarves then you have an idea what forest/mountain dwarves are.

They live in seclusion, in areas away from human territories: caves, holes in the ground, trees, etc. They do not enjoy being seen since they very much enjoy their privacy. Most of the time seen early in the morning and late in the afternoon hours.

They will not attack anyone unless you grant them an incentive to do so. Peace loving creatures and very hard working.

Weakness: Prayers. Fire.

How to protect yourself: Don’t approach them and/or disturb them. They have work to do after all.

---

“Changeling” a.k.a. “Hunyango”

Class/Caste: Unknown (Part fae, part demon)

Rank: n/a

Description:

Changelings or the “hunyango” are part fae and part demon. Their natural form is humanoid: same as ours but instead they have purple skin and do not have facial features.

They got their name from their uncanny ability to change their forms at will. They can change their form into anything and/or anyone which proves them very dangerous.

Agile and vicious, they are formidable spies. To whom they work for is classified.

Weakness:

Prayers and religious artifacts.

Knowledge. They have limited knowledge of their targets. For example, changing into your lover doesn’t grant the changeling knowledgeable of you, your lover, etc.

How to protect yourself: Prayers and shields. Be completely knowledgeable of everyone around you: their emotions, their gestures, their visions, etc. Knowledge would prove useful.

---

“Sundo”

Class/Caste: Varies

Rank: n/a

Description:

Sundo are creatures/entities who “collect” souls of the deceased, and/or the souls of the misguided/unguided. They come in many forms: angels, demons, relatives of the deceased, “soul-eaters”, etc.

Angel versions of the “sundo” collect the souls of the newly deceased who deserve to be in heaven. They appear in many forms: winged angels, human shaped angels, etc.

Demon versions of the “sundo” collect the souls of the newly deceased. They do not care if you’ve lived a holy life or not. If they get the chance to collect a soul then that is a very unfortunate soul indeed. No need to say where the soul is going. *eherm*

Relatives of the deceased may also become a “sundo”. They come in three forms: those who appear beautiful and happy (a.k.a. “those sent from heaven”), those who appear deformed and tormented (a.k.a. “those sent from hell”), and those who appear unchanged and tired (a.k.a. “those who dwell in purgatory”).

“Soul-eaters” versions of the “sundo” are the most dangerous form of the “sundo”. Fear is their middle name and they do not collect souls. Just as the name suggests, they eat souls.

There are still other forms of the “sundo” but some are yet to be proven while the info about others are too sensitive to be posted here.

Weakness:

Prayers. Religious artifacts (rosaries, Bibles, Koran, etc.).

How to protect yourself: If you encounter the malevolent ones then pray and run. They do not normally let themselves be seen by mortals but when they do, your faith will protect you.

---

“Santilmo”

Class/Caste: Lost soul/s

Rank: n/a

Description:

Golden to orange colored balls of energy believed by those living in Bohol as the spirit of those who died at sea. They are lost souls who entice mortal victims to untimely deaths.

Usually seen during dark rainy nights, the santilmo would mesmerize mortals and as mentioned above, lead them to their deaths. Dangerous if victim does not have an iron will, if victim does not have complete faith in God, and/or if victim travels alone. Not necessarily only seen near water formations.

Weakness:

Prayers and religious artifacts. Calamansi, dalandan, lemon, kamias, samapalok, green mangos, etc. Vinegar.

How to protect yourself: Pray. And if with any sour object (like the above mentioned), throw it at the santilmo to get rid of it.

---

“Sigbin”

Class/Caste: Maligno/Engkanto

Rank: n/a

Description:

Not necessarily a maligno nor is it an engkanto. One thing is for sure: Its an abomination.

It is a creature of darkness who prey upon little children. They kill their pray and they use their heart as a medallion. They are rarely seen leaving their homes (trees, caves, etc.) but it is proven that they usually hunt for their medallions during the Holy Week. *eherm*

Weakness:

Prayers and religious artifacts. Salt. Fire.

How to protect yourself: Pray and run to the nearest form of sanctuary. Never confront them. And yes, that goes especially for the little kiddies.

---

“Sinan baket, sinan lakay, sinan padi”

Class/Caste: Demon

Rank: n/a

Description:

This demon takes the form of an old woman (sinan baket), a man (sinan lakay), or a priest (sinan padi). A deceiver, this demon is able to manipulate a human being’s perception and do as it will. Motives of this demon eludes most scholars but if one understands demons then one would understand that they’re natural born deceivers and they shall do whatever it takes to get you off the righteous path.

Victims are never found.

Weakness:

Prayers and religious artifacts.

How to protect yourself: Pray. Pray. Pray.

---

“Sasailo”

Class/Caste: Spirit/Soul

Rank: n/a

According to the Tinguian, the sasailo are spirits who dwell among us, in our natural surroundings and they move along with human beings. They influence daily events and manipulate them at will.

The sasailo have intellect that may surpass that of a mortal due to their age, mortal years plus astral years. They should be feared and respected since they could take the form of human beings at anytime and dwell among the living as if with flesh. According to the Tinguian, the sasailo are aware of everything.

Weakness: Prayers and shields.

How to protect yourself: Pray.

Why is it always salt? Does it depend what kinda salt? Can it be epsom salts? laugh.gif

Why is it fire? Can you then use a lighter or a match? A torch?

And of course prayers and faith seem to be the number one defense against everything.

And where the heck did you get those from, weird stuff. blink.gif

Both my parents are from the Philippines and they believe in ghosts and spirits. My dad told me about a few stories:

1) My dad and his friends were going somewhere late at night when they went by this playground. It wasn't a windy night, but somehow the middle of 3 swings was moving back and forth while the outside 2 remained still.

2) Around the house where my dad grew up there was a lady dressed in white that would walk outside in between the houses. Nobody knew who she was.

I asked Mr Bouleville bout that. As long as you have a strong will or a strong faith in whatever religion you are in you will be OK. Unless, of course, you are satanic...

Oh and about the salt and vinegar and stuff, it is because they are irritated toward it. Just so its clear, you use this stuff on the physical beings and not spiritual beings OK?

Oh yeah! Did you know that engkantos/faes live in another dimension? For the few minutes that you are there you experience at least two weeks in the human world.

Mebe I should start a new thread?

I'm from Laguna, Philippines.

My wife have a group of friendly white dwarves watching tv with her almost every night. She's the only one who could see them. Sometimes the dwarves would "posses" her (one at a time) and talk to me. The last time I asked them what hurts them most...they said it's holy water, it burns them.

well what if your not religious? I guess your screwed then, huh?

unfortunately, how you handle the things that come at you determines whether you rid yourself or make it worse...you can unknowningly feed them and

make it worse...remember that a house that is divided in itself will not stand...demons will not get rid of other demons to help you, that is not in their nature...if they did then the demonic realm would collapse by infighting for control...i hope that i explained that right...

A dear friend married a "pinoy," and a group of us visited his awesome, paradise province in the Visayan region of the Philippines, and low and behold, we heard this "ti tik, ti tik, ti tik..." It only happened at night. It's some kind of a night bird, but no one has actually seen it, strangely enough. Perhaps, it's even more. Regardless, you won't forget that sound if you hear it. It almost sounded like it's making its attack or about to devour a victim. The sound is definitely creepy and extremely loud because in that province, people go to bed early and the night is almost pitch black. This country is very intriguing indeed, with all its "enchanted" places, mysterious healers, mystics, strange caves, magic daggers and swords by the Muslims, spooky World War 2 sunken ships and airplanes, and it's too close to the deepest water in the world, the Mariana Trench. That alone will give you shivers... Have you ever seen it? If not, it's worth the travel. Besides, Magellan, for being such a B I T C H, was beheaded here. Beware, indeed.

EDIT: I forgot to add: magic tattoos, done by shamans, by hands, not machines..., and "dark" wizards with their "black" mantras.

It truly exists...beware the black magic.

Definitely, and do you know that some of the magic daggers and swords were created by mystics and Filipino (and Indonesian) wizards, not just craftsmen, using their mouths (while the metal is still hot) to get that perfect crescent design on the crescent-edged blades??? Rent The Ring of Fire video documentary..., I believe that's the title of the documentary shown on PBS, during the late '70s and early '80s.
