I was shocked to say the least; not so much by the devastation of the hurricane. The Thailand tsunami (please correct me to it's exact name) proved the destructive powers of the sea. What shocked me was that when 9/11 happened and the tsunami-aid was there almost immediately and the bodies quickly recovered before they could decompose. What is going on in New Orleans, or what is left of it-I asked myself? Was I looking at a state that was part of the 52 states of the US, or was I looking at a third world nation in despair. Now, tonight on our cable news network-one of the news channels on cable. Eleven days later and bodies are rotting in the streets. What about thier loved ones who survived. Who is going to break it to them that they were allowed to lay in the open sun and excuse me, but rot. I am being open and frank here as a child I am a survivor of a killer tornado, which nearly wiped out our town and killed a friend of mine. That stays with me even now and at least action was quickly taken. What about the children of Katrina? At least, I had the knowledge that my friends body wasn't allowed to rot, but was dealt with quickly and with respect. Who will tell the orphans of Katrina the truth about thier parents when they are old enough to find out the truth for themselves. Too much money on the war; and not enough on sea defences. Shame. My heart goes out to all the survivors and the children not just of Katrina, but everywhere that has to live with the tragedy of seeing thier loved ones lying in the streets. Is Bush thinking of the children? There are many orphans and I pray that most of the children are reunited with thier parents like my brother and I were reunited with ours and our baby sister. love, light and peace to everybody here at the forum 834119[/snapback] When 9/11 happened, the mayor of NY, Rudy Galliano, made excellent command decisions, and the NYPD and NYFD performed heroically. The first responder was, as it should have been, city forces, and the city did the job right. When the tsunami happened, substaintial US military forces (naval) happened to be near by, and Bush had full command and legal authority to act. As to the levees, did you know that funds earmarked for levee improvements were diverted to make the casino gambling ships viable? Faeden Posted September 8, 2005 #129 Share Posted September 8, 2005 (edited) I used to like Rudy Galliano he responded to 9/11 well, I still like him, but my dad told me something that put me of him, my dad is a successful business man, and was in a high up position in an American/British company, so knows many high flyers that get to meet all sorts of people, one of his business partners went to New York after 9/11 to meet with others in his company, my dad had business partners and friends killed on Sep 11th, and so did many of the people on the plane, as the business had some floors on the world trade centre, when the plane landed Rudy Galliano greeted them before they got off the plane, and said "Welcome to New York America, the centre and capital of the world" My dad’s friend said they all looked at each other in a bewildered way. This is a very common belief and attitude in America, I understand people wanting to be patriotic after 9/11, but that was just a silly thing to say. Apparition, you tried to use 9/11 as an example of others using the argument that Bush doesn’t act fast enough in crisis’s comparing what people say about the 9/11 reaction and the hurricane reaction, no one said Bush did not act fast enough in saving lives in 9/11, because there where no lives to save, in this hurricane there was and is. Link Thursday, September 8, 2005 Katrina: Astrodome lockdown report from blogger volunteer A blogger who is volunteering at the Astrodome says: They locked out the people out of the dome, evacuees and volunteers. we have not had volunteers able to come in all morning. people just screaming broke into the gate to get in and all the people and volunteers ran into the dome. hundreds, at least 200 or 300 people started pushing in. no one was on the other side of the locked gate, no traffic no guards, etc. my volunteer guy telling the story from the human rights campaign ran in too. finally one police officer tried to corral people and push them back out. and in ffact everyone was pushed out. except my guy who pretended he had been in all along. and the people who had been in were pushed out and locked out. rumors: Bush is here or coming here any minute. and/or, FEMA is giving out debit cards and people got very rowdy and so fema locked everything down mega tight. No reliant empolyees, no one , no officers, no one to ask, people screaming and panicking, locked out of what is now their home, their kids are in here, etc. no one in the dome knows what is happening I don't have any more positive stories to share or solutions in my mind, right now. I really am trying to stay positive during this sad time and I will take a break from posting in here (it is the only forum I post on) because I am spending alot of energy on this and I need to revive I work with pre-schoolers and on Monday our class will be welcoming a couple of children that were effected by the hurricane, so I will put all of my loving energy into them I will probally post some of my experiences with them in a couple of months. Your last post discussing your father's connections and trip to New York only highlighted your 'negative' perception of the American attitude towards their self-belief. So what if Gulliano called New York the capital of the world, big deal, everyone know's it is a blatant inaccurate observation, there is no capital of the world, so why comment on something so obviously untrue that an American stated and then imply that all Americans are thinking likewise: stop tarring everyone with the same brush! Just because we would all have liked to have seen the American authorities go into New Orleans and save everyone, it really was not as easy as that. Yes, mistakes were made, and they cost lives, but at the same time obstacles needed to be overcome without risking lives not directly caught up in the crisis. The logistics, alone, are awesome, especially for something on this scale, so look at the facts, do not ignore them, and as unpalatable to your sensitive conscience (and at least you have one) as those facts might be, they still have to be accepted. I do not like Bush or the current American administration, there have been far better Presidents and administrations in the past, and no doubt, will be in the future, but don't forget that our own lying leader took us into something that is termed a war based not only upon false intelligence, but on his own personal conviction, and there are people here whom also support the 'war', I of course do not, but those that do I do not see as being evil or anything as equally gross, perhaps misinformed or misguided by their sympathies (which can be debated), they are not all unlikable people. So it is with the Americans. There are good and bad in all races, but viewing Americans from a stance of 'anti-ism' will deny you the opportunity of embracing one of the most likable and friendly people on the planet, and more importantly, you will deny them from embracing you. He did greet the plane, because of the people on it, it wasn’t a normal flight. I have seen him on TV say this too, he greeted the last concord flight ever to New York from London and came on board and said exactly the same thing. I know the real reason why your angry with me, but I wont bring that up here as, I want that whole dirty business to be in the past. I have finished with this thread now as its getting a little harsh and negative and way off topic. So you will forgive me (or not) for standing up for it, and its great population. You think you have all the answers, why don't you run for office and straighten the crap out? It is very easy to sit back and second guess the actions of the men and women on the spot; to analyze and evaluate every word they say, at your leisure. But its another thing to stand up and take on the job itself. What say you braveheart? Got the guts to face the challenge? Or are you content to sit in the shadows and snipe at those who do? I could never live there(My wife had an apartment there for 15 years; we sold it shortly before 9/11) as it is far too crowded for my taste, but it is an amazing place that has a great deal of importance to the rest of the world in regards to the history kept there as well as the financial aspects there... By what Rudy said, I see it as a sense of bravado and pride for his city; not much more than that. If it was in poor taste then sobeit. I have said things that I have regretted later down the line, and I doubt there isn't a person that hasn't said something that was out of line or poorly thought out.
