Nxt2Hvn Posted September 5, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2005 Gunmen open fire on contractors; no workers reported killed NEW ORLEANS - Police shot and killed at least five people Sunday after gunmen opened fire on a group of contractors traveling across a bridge on their way to make repairs, authorities said. Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said police shot at eight people carrying guns, killing five or six. Fourteen contractors were traveling across the Danziger Bridge under police escort when they came under fire, said John Hall, a spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers. They were on their way to launch barges into Lake Pontchartrain to help plug the breech in the 17th Street Canal, Hall said. None of the contractors was injured, Mike Rogers, a disaster relief coordinator with the Army Corps of Engineers, told reporters in Baton Rouge. The bridge spans a canal connecting Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River. No other details were immediately available. This breaking story will be updated. HERE ... I would feel a lot more sympathy for the people of this disaster if this kind of stuff didn't happen (thats not saying I don't feel a great amount for the people who aren't trying to shoot anyone in site). So far I read somewhere (probably on UM) that theres been 7 murders and 12 rapes in the Superdone alone! Rape , no way . At the same time these people have been through a lot, losing basically everything. They need help, it isn't coming fast enough. They feel like why is everyone just sitting there doing nothing. They feel in this situation it's survival of the fittest, hence the looting. After such a trauma, these victims aren't going to be thinking rationally. They probably feel like they are lost, like they are going to die, and I do believe that in some cases that these people that are raping, it is release they see no other options, they are angry, and as horrible as it is it's helping them cope. Sex it does something to help the mental state depression, anxiety, etc..., they have done studies on that. There's no excuse for any of the awful things that have and are still happening down there. Reports of all these crimes were coming through within days of the hurricane.
