Lets keep millions of Americans in poverty. Lets keep them ignorant and hopeless, lets make them feel inferior for being poor, lets tell them its their fault for their life of little – O wait, we already do this … Fully educate every American and give them a descent job and they will not join the military to fight for a man who has the napoleon complex.

Poor people are not poor because they want to be, it is our fault (whitey) we have city after city of poor intercity black people who have no ability to pick up and move to their summer home.

I think (whitey) keeps people ignorant and poor so they can keep their military full.

The military teaches you to stand in line and kill people – wow that’s knowledge. What skills I would gain. Murder and obedience – sounds like the devil is at the helm.

I am almost beyond words after reading this post. Are you a member of the real world or did you just arrive here from another planet? In America you can become anything you want to be, if you are willing to work hard and not give in to the pressures applied to you by your current situation. Many people have overcome poor and humble beginnings to rise up to positions of prominence in our culture. Not everyone can be rich but the rich got that way by hard work and having a never say die attitude. My parents raised 4 children in very humble surroundings. They worked hard and never gave in to the pressures now they live a very comfortable life, in other words they seceded. You know there are more kinds of prejudice than white not liking black and your post demonstrates one of the other kinds.

As for your assertion that the military teaches you to stand in line and kill people. The military teaches a multitude of skills besides killing. I work in an environment where the majority of highly skilled employees are retired military. They learned their skills while in the employ of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. I am only one of about 10% of our skilled work force with no military training. I am very good at what I do but the military trained employees are better and they are better because of the training they received in the military.

""As the old saying goes "When you are hanging over a cliff by a thread you should not question anyone who reaches out to help you""

Really??? What if its satan offering his helping hand, would you take it.

What is wrong with you Cel now you are blaming the left for people being poor. Man I have never encountered a person more brainwashed then yourself.

Cobra, of course you're right. On some issues. I have no problem giving aid to these people. But unfortunately, no matter how much I, as an individual, can help, it's still not enough. Also, unfortunately, the government is slow in acting to save these people, set them up with new lives and such. We, here locally, are doing so many things as far as housing (outside of shelters), and food, jobs, medical care, and I imagine everywhere else that has refugees are doing the same. But the federal government isn't as quick to act. All I'm saying, is that offering military jobs is not a bad thing. They aren't being forced into it. They aren't having things withheld if they don't join.

It's not easy to get a good job here if you're not a college grad. The military is a good option. And FYI, they don't just learn to shoot. They are taught valuable skills other than killing and war. They also have the option to go to college for free. How else are they going to do all this?

No one said, and the article did not say that anyone was putting a gun to anyone’s head, it was suggesting that the army are taking advantage of people because they are desperate and vulnerable, just to fill in the lack of army recruits, because most of them are in Iraq.

4dplane I am with you 100% I would rather die than join the army.

All the best

WannabeSkeptic i hear what your saying.... I guess I got a bit emotional! But its still unbelievable the gov haven’t done half of what the could do for the people.

Plus a gun is for killing, but i guess you can use it as a walking stick if you want to shoot yourself in the foot! yes.gif

Main purpose of a soldier any guesses? yes.gif

I do not believe Satan would be offering a hand up I am more inclined to believe Satan would be cutting the thread. I also blame the left for people being poor. It is the "It is not my fault" mentality that is creating poor. Instead of making people responsible for themselves and their situations the left plays a game and blames others for their own situation. By instilling the it is not my fault mind set and offering hand outs instead of hand ups we have a growing population of needy people without the skills and drive to make their situation better. It is not our governments job or responsibility to provide us with anything except the freedom to thrive and the means to do so. Unless you have a physical or mental condition that does not allow you to have gainful employment you have only yourself to blame if you cannot make it in this society.

As for Cel being the most brain washed person I want a recount because I thought I was the most brain washed person around here.

I also understand what you're saying Cobra, and yes, even you Faeden. What you guys have to understand outside of all this is something someone else already said. At every job fair I have ever been to, there have always been recruiters there. Always. That's just how it works here. It's not like they're saying, "Ooh, here's our chance to take advantage of the populace". It's not any different than any other job fair you'll find. Whether it's at a homeless shelter, high school, college, or even at a civic center.

And let me just reitterate. They are NOT withholding assistance based on whether or not the people join the military.

It used to be to kill people and break things, but apparently in today's day and age, it's disaster relief.... or Peacekeeping, like the UN tries to do...

Man I have never encountered a person more brainwashed then yourself.

Funny, I think the same thing about the left/socialists in general. Bunch of brainwashed mind-numbed robots in lock-step with what their vitriolic "leaders" push. As this whole thread displays nicely.

Mr Slayer

The leftists are making people poor...??

That's actually funny, because, if there's someone scaling down on social security, making cuts on schools, hospitals etc, lowering taxes for the ultra-richest 4% of the total American population, it would be the right wing neo-liberal white men patting each other's backs in the wonderful extreme-privatized and de-regulated world of conglomerates and (their) puppet governments.

(Not being Orwellian at all, actually.)

Anyone believing the contrary is a media-fed fool that hasn't learnt anything from the history and how this world operates from above.

Rightwing people often are for unchained free markets, de-regulation, very egoistic ("no altruism"), pro-war, and for some reason, anti-social security. How is one building a good society on those bases?

The left side of the politics is not perfect, just like the other side, but in the midst of all their utopian (and often ridiculed) wantings of solidarity, peace and good life for everyone, at least they are trying.

Sorry, got of topic there.

Making jobs is great. But this smells of sour exploatation for military causes. Call me old-fashioned.

Whatever. So, even though the military has had booths at every job fair since the beginning of time, they shouldn't do so now?

I believe it, and whom do you think they were recruiting - wealth white people from the upper 4%, or kids who have collage paid for by Ma and Pa, or people with solid job opportunities etc…

The former poor and now homeless populaces of New Orleans will surly fill the Militaries recruitment quotas for the next couple of months. It all works out, America creates jobs and Americans are filling them. I see now, America has always been looking out for the poor; the poor just did not want to work. hmm.gif

And what technical skills (ones that can be used for jobs in the civilian market) can I learn from the Military that I cannot learn out side of the military? Does the Military pay for all your school, 4 years at $20,000 a year? How much money does a soldier make a year – total? And what happens if and when I get hit with shrapnel and loose my eyes, will me and my family be compensated for life.

And left vs right – America has always left the poor to be poor, America has always convinced the poor to fight our wars.

There are lots of technical skill that translate to the real world; it just depends on what you would like to do. To support the fighting folks takes every kind of skill imaginable, and military experience is a big positive to have on the resume when you get out. It helps get people hired. You can learn those skills outside of the military of course, but it will be on your dime.

There are programs that can get you up to 50K for school depending on what job you choose, on top of that most military bases have sattelite college campuses on them that allow you to take college courses while serving, getting much of the general ed requirements out of the way before you leave saving thousands of dollars. The military picks up the tab for those classes as well.

If you get hit with schrapnel and lose your eyes you get medically discharged and get military benefits for the rest of your life based on the pay you were getting at the time of injury.

It works well for some people, and that is why there are many volunteers. In my case I was 17 years old at the time I signed up and went to basic after my 18th birthday. There were many things that I did not like about the military, but in the long run it has served me well. I can honestly recomend it for people that have been made aware of what they are getting into(not just recruiters, but ex military as well) and like the idea of serving in the military.

ya'll like that 4% #... I'll bet about 4% of the military on the front lines at some point come from what ya'll would call "well to do" families. Just keep on preachin that class warfare. The ill-educated the left has produced will swallow it hook, line, and sinker while the left's politicos make sure it stays that way. If they fixed it, they'd lose their constituents.

Stellar
free choice you say ...it this the only choice to a disparate man ...and your gov knows that!

Oh, really?

allot of them are illiterate......................perfect for the army

Are you calling the army stupid? Are you calling me stupid because I joined the army? Interesting... I was quite sure that in the US, just like in Canada, theres a few aptitude tests to pass before joining the army... and reading is one of the required aptitudes. The US army is similar to the Canadian army from what I've seen, and in the Canadian army, officers have university degrees (do you?), and even NCMs I've worked with are quite intelligent... mostly college and even university graduates. Wheres does this stupid stereotype come from?

allot are black.....................................perfect for the army

WTF are you talking about? Are you a racist? What do you mean black people are perfect for the army?

lol the only joke is all the people in this thread crying about the military recruitment when they obviously have No Clue! Ignorance on parade woohoo!

Civvies really dont have a clue, and theres no real way to explain it to them because they simply wont understand unless they go through it voluntarily. But they dont want to, so instead they think recruiters lie and decieve.

Now, signing up with the military will get them housing, paycheck, medical benefits for them and their families, and good training for future jobs. Listen to what I'm about to say.

Since this disaster happened, these things ^^^^^are what the public is demanding for the victims. IF they sign up, they get those things, and we get more soldiers. Everyone wins.

No. Its wrong to say everyone wins. Everyone has a *chance* of winning. They also have a chance of losing by being deployed to Iraq and getting killed... but thats the reality soldiers have to face.

it didn’t take them long to mobile troops to destroy Afghanistan and Iraq.

Only took a few months.

The military teaches you to stand in line and kill people – wow that’s knowledge. What skills I would gain.

*sigh* Civvies.... no.gifno.gifno.gif

Really??? What if its satan offering his helping hand, would you take it.

Sure would. I wouldnt be committing a crime or any evil would I be? Hell, I'd grab onto a sharp blade if it was my only choice.

4dplane I am with you 100% I would rather die than join the army.

Would you also say that in a time like WW2?

Plus a gun is for killing, but i guess you can use it as a walking stick if you want to shoot yourself in the foot! yes.gif

You're just showing your ignorance more and more. Maybe you should leave this sort of stuff to the people who know best?

Main purpose of a soldier any guesses?

A soldiers purpose can be anywhere from to kill the enemy to file paperwork. A soldier is anyone in the army. Once again, your ignorance is showing. The word you're looking for is: "Infanteer". They're role is to close with and destroy the enemy.

And what technical skills (ones that can be used for jobs in the civilian market) can I learn from the Military that I cannot learn out side of the military?

Thats not the point. The point is you can either pay to learn them in the civvie, or get payed to learn them in the military. But there are certain skills and other things that you are unlikely to learn in the civvie.

Does the Military pay for all your school, 4 years at $20,000 a year?

Sure does.

How much money does a soldier make a year – total?

Ask an american. I only know about Canadian pay.

And what happens if and when I get hit with shrapnel and loose my eyes, will me and my family be compensated for life.

If its anything like in Canada, yes.

You know, I'm sorry if it ticks you off that little rich kids get "paid tickets" to college and great careers and super-wonderful lives. Does it not work like that everywhere? Of course they don't get recruited. They have no need to go to job fairs. Mommy and Daddy has their life mapped out for them.

And whoever made those remarks about illiteracy and what I interpreted as "stupid black people", well, you need to crawl back into the hole you came out of. That was totally uncalled for. I can't say anymore right now, this is ridiculous. rolleyes.gif

I see what ya'll are saying that it's a job, dah dah dah! But Bush might as well say 'sure it's me and the governments fault for not letting Red Cross send the supplies to the Dome, sure we didn't think ahead-so for my mistake I'll just make you go to war and risk your life for money and your country to make up for the supplies I could have given ya. If your family needs medical and food and clothes your husbands have gotta put they're lives at risk, even though they practically almost did-or should I say I did.

That is what I imagine Bush thinking to himself.

What do they teach you people in school up in Maine? Or is it the water?

Do you realize that you are completely clueless about the truth and reality of the situation? You haven't the foggiest idea how the government works..not at the local level, not at the state level, and certainly not at the federal level. But you should. You should know how it all works. Instead of just vomiting out the Hate Bush propoganda why don't you research the truth and find out what is real and what isn't? Of course you won't...it is much easier to just rely on the media and your liberal friends to do your thinking for you. Wake up sister...open your eyes...smell the coffee and find out the truth. It is not what you think. Not at all. no.gifwub.gif

Well here is the down low on that topic

Looks shady to me:

“[…]Program pays for up to 100% of the cost of tuition or expenses up to a maximum of $250 per semester hour credit and a personal maximum of $3,500 per fiscal year per student.”

Source

“Montgomery G.I. Bill

The Montgomery G.I. Bill offers up to $32,400 in tuition in return for a three-year commitment on full-time duty. You contribute $100 a month for a year. You get $900 a month for three years, 19.5 times what you put in. A very handsome return on investment.”

Source

“Enlistees in the Armed Services who become eligible for their College Fund Programs receive up to $50,000 toward college tuition”

I went to school at Purdue University where I studied Aviation for four years. Many of my class-mates were either ROTC or GI-Bill students and had no complaints money-wise. The kids on GI-Bill had plenty of money to spend on the weekends as well as the 17,000 dollars ( yeah, that's how much it costs to attend flight school ) per year for tuition.

I know that Armed Forces recruiters can be pushy but if you sign up and have any surprises then you probably should not be in the military anyway.
