heres the thing, im really hoping this is a pyramid, but im open minded to people who think its not,

but my big question is why are there stone balls close to the site, the same type of stone balls are found in the jungles of south america in the areas of the south american pyramids. they are thought to have been made by the molmec people wich we know very little about, but the molmecs were not native to south america you can see that by there giant stone carved heads, the south american people have tales of when they arrived, wich means they travelled there, so stone balls in south america and bosnia. who is too say they dident travell there and construct pyramids........

A war of words continues to rage over the alleged discovery of an ancient pyramid in Bosnia.

Bosnian-American pyramid buff Semir "Sam" Osmanagic claims a four-sided hill in the town of Visoko is Europe's first known pyramid, larger than any ever built in Egypt.

But in the latest salvo in this battle, the president of the European Association of Archaeologists said on Friday that he had visited the 700-foot (213-meter) hill and saw no evidence that it was human-made.

Speaking at a press conference in Sarajevo, Anthony Harding told reporters the pyramid-shaped hill was a natural phenomenon.

"My opinion and the opinion of my colleagues is what we saw was entirely geological in nature," the AFP news agency quoted him as saying.

"Further work of the same kind would simply produce the same results. I don't think it would change any view about what the nature of the hill is," he said.

Harding, an archaeology professor at England's University of Exeter, visited Visoko, 18 miles (30 kilometers) from Sarajevo, on Thursday.

European Pyramid?

In April 2006 the Houston-based Osmanagic and a mostly volunteer crew began limited excavations in the area and drilled exploratory wells.

The team uncovered what they describe as large stone blocks shaped by human hands and a network of tunnels fronted by a wide, paved entranceway.

Osmanagic has speculated that Illyrians—ancient ancestors of today's Albanians—could have built the alleged pyramid perhaps as early as 12,000 years ago during the last ice age.

Last month Osmanagic told National Geographic News that he was "100 percent convinced" that the pyramid was real.

Those claims have drawn near unanimous contempt from professional archaeologists.

Harding, an expert on Bronze Age Europe, has dismissed Osmanagic's theories as "wacky" and "absurd."

Balkan prehistory expert Curtis Runnels, an archaeologist at Boston University and editor of the Journal of Field Archaeology, joins the chorus of skeptics.

"Mr. Osmangic offers no concrete physical evidence to support his claims, despite the fact that they are fantastic," he said.

"[T]he area was in fact occupied by Upper Paleolithic hunter-gatherers with a Stone Age technology sufficient for building fires, tents, and simple hunting implements like bows and arrows."

"They were not pyramid builders."

Recent Twist

In another recent twist, wire reports quoted Aly Abd Alla Barakat, a geologist with the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority.

Barakat, who visited the hill at the behest of Osmanagic's team, told the Associated Press late last week, "My opinion is that this is a type of pyramid, probably a primitive pyramid."

To the AFP, he said: "The white stuff I found between the blocks could be a glue. It is very similar to that we have found in the Giza pyramids."

Critics remain unswayed, and some have questioned Barakat's expertise.

Of the alleged Bosnian pyramid, the European Association of Archaeology's Harding said, "You'd be surprised how many natural stone formations can look as if they are man-made."

i just love the way these professionals , say out right something is not what it is with no futher examinations and a maybe or 2,, and then get angry when people keep asking questions, i mean if you get angry you are not sure, when u know u are 100% correct about something you dont lose your temper. do you know what i mean..

I've been following the developments on this for a while now, in this and the previous thread that got pruned. I don't want to re-open any discussion on the politics behind this etc. but I have to say that if this turns out not to be a pyramid the aftermath may prove to be interesting, maybe with some juicy mudflinging and scapegoating by pretty much everyone involved.

As for the possible pyramid, I'll suspend my judgment. I'm not particularly fond of the way the experts so readily brush this off as being utter nonsense, but neither am I partial to the way the other side is so eager to see this finding as something that will be simply impossible to fit into the current understanding of the history of civilization. If it turns out to be a pyramid, then great, we know a bit/lot more about times long gone and also how reliable the established academia is. If it's not a pyramid, we'll hopefully find out what was done wrong and then learn from our mistakes and never do them again! (signed, Mr. Optimist)

ohh and also i had a discussion on another board on this topic, people say that people at visocica should have focused on ONE spot only, and the should have digged all over the place, in my opinion Osmanagics Crew is doing wonderfull job by picking few sites to dig at, if you find same handmade rocks all over the hill it shows that MOST of the hill is made out of them, if you just dig on one spot sceptics will always think of something like the once that said that building on top of the hill colapsed or something lol.,

yeah from what ive read the egyptian guy has been there a while ago.. now there is talk of unesco going in to have a look around....

and so very true he should have stayed a week at least because it will be years before we know for sure if its a pyramid. so why are people making such rash judgments.. like.. its not a pyramid and thats that,, i LOVE the word MAYBE.

Dr. Dario Andretta from Italy, Dr. Goražd Žibret from Slovenia and Dr. Lamia el-Hadidi from Egypt will present new exhibits and poofs about the existance of man-made wall structures under the hill of Plješevica “Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon”.

Latest discovery proves pyramid theory

A press conference held earlier today (Sunday) at the Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon puts “beyond doubt” the existence of a pyramid at the site, says the Archeological Park: Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun (APBPS).

The Pljesevica Hill was previously named the Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon by the APBPS Foundation. Experts from the Foundation have now revealed the discovery of a vertical wall that forms part of the Pyramid of The Moon.

Lamia el-Hadidi (Conservation Specialist, Egypt) assumes that the wall forms part of a tomb belonging to the pyramid. She pointed out that the wall is clearly manmade, comprising blocks that have been cut by man, refined and used to build this vertical wall.

Prof.Dr.Ric.Geol. Dario Andretta, chairman of the Humanitarian University for the Multidisciplinary International Culture (Rome), announced that this evidence puts beyond doubt the existence of a true pyramid at this site.

Experts from APBPS expect to have further announcements about the nature of the wall that has been discovered in the next two to three days. Excavations will now continue to take place to the left, right and above the wall. The team has also discovered steps which they say probably lead into the tomb.

Andretta has also announced that more experts from across Italy will be coming to join Bosnians on the site to be part of largest current international archeological project.

It is said that the discovery of the entrance at the Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon proves beyond doubt that this is a true pyramid.
