Deceit is an illusion.

expand on that. in this case are you implying that because "gods" are an illusion, it is an illusion that one is decieved (or helped, etc) by them?

I agree with Hyper why not give up constructs, IMO worship is the same as saying I am not worthy enough to do anything more than worship a diety from afar, holding god from a very far distance., Religon is made up of just such ideas, and this is what people insist god wants??? I think it tells more about those that except these ideas as truth than anything else and that I would challenge people to reject every idea every construct every teaching that has inspired religion come up with some new ideas about "god" which is really just another word for life , Namaste Sheri

I think what happened was... the general "worship" was asked... and the christians came out enmass to say why they worship... followed by the athiests with their take on the matter..

So.. uhm.. maybe it's still general...

Christian worship and asking for forgiveness is just a ticket to get into heaven. Yet most people do not even know what they are doing 'wrong' they feel guilty and unworthy to go to heaven.

Think on this: what if everyone went to heaven, no matter what 'sins' they did in life? What if everything was part of God's divine plan? What if God required nobody to worship or feel guilty but to enjoy life as God granted them?

I'm hoping it's still general Silver.

Well... the only way to find out is to say why you worship and then it'll make it general! *snickers*

*makes a list*

Bast: I worship Her because I have always had a deep seeded relationship spiritually with felines (Hey... if you can't guess my my name...) And out of all the feline goddesses out there, Bast was the only one I felt a kinship towards. Everything She stood for clicked, and from the moment I took her on as my Matron deity... I've not regret it one iota.

Dyonisus: I wirship Him because well... much the same reasons. I felt a kinship with what He represents. Though I don't have any symbols representing him for their being a lack of anything... I might just make my own.

Goddess and her Consort: The very bassis of nature, and earth worship. The Goddess is the spirit of the earth and her Consort is the Sun. (Grandmother being the Moon) Without them, there would be no life here... litteraly. (In my views anyways)

Cougar: She is my connection. My guide. I know that in some tribes you're not supposed to let people know this. But really... it's not hard to tell. She gives me strength, and my brashness at times. Cougar is also seen by some as a teacher... (which is also shown at times.. if people listened... heh)

This... is why I worship who I do.

I allready did say why I worship, but I don't so much worship as I do be grateful and thankfull that I am alive and that I am lucky enough to live in a place so abundant with life and possibility.

That's why I would perform a ceremony or ritual, to be thankfull and what a grand day to make a statement like that, don't you think? Happy thanks giving all you Yankees. :D

I like youre way of worship. It's almost like how I do it. Just.. be thankful and live life. X) Can't cast a spell to save my life... nor do a ritual... but still... X)

As much as I love turkey and stuffing day... Iwish I could just stay under the covers and be warm and get over this thing... hehe

very well, kismit. so is your "worship" just a recognition of "you" and the environs? (which i could say "you are the environs" := a part of a system)

i don't do such things because the "fates" (for lack of better term here) for which i had no control led to my existance, further "fates" directed me and while we can debate over how much "free will" individuals really have, we are all part of the complex system of the universe. While i acknowledge my position in it, and take actions to affect the superficial aspects of it, i am a part of the system and don't see a need to "be thankful for being a part of it in 'this way'" because no matter what set of events occured to lead to where i am I can only make subjective comparisons to alternatives from this perspective and thus i can not realistically say what an alternative existance would or would not be.

edit: you, SC, are the first cougar to ever be aggressive towards me. (and i do enjoy time in the wild around cougars, and bears). Your guide is bigger than my familiar, but mine has a real bite. tee hee (ask my gf)

Well almost, although it isn't so much recognition of me as it is just paying homage to your surroundings, taking time to smell the roses and just contemplate life.

and thus i can not realistically say what an alternative existance would or would not be.
In one of the books I am reading at the moment it asks the question of wether or not being a book would be boring. The answer was... not for the Book. As it would have no other exsistence to compare it with to know wether or not it could be more exciting.

Hyper, do you view these fates as sentiant?

at a most basic level, no. if you want to include ligher levels of complexity in the mix, then it is possible. For example, if you consider a human's actions to be a 'fate'. (i don't though)

I was asking for your opinion and your beliefs, which clearly the answer is 'No.'

So then, do you beleive that you are, self aware, capable of thought and intelligent?

Are you pleased that you are these things or just indifferent to it?

It is because of those things that I am thankful to be alive and give thanks for it. Random course of events or not, it is still an incredible thing. And worth some form of reflection or worship. To me any way.

perhaps it is worth reflection because we are capable of relfection?

is a rock pleased it is a rock? is the earth pleased it is a planet? i don't know. certianly not from our understanding or perspective, anyway. i am what i am. i does not please nor displease me to be what i be, it just is. Now if i could choose what i was, then perhaps i would be pleased or displeased. However, if i was only able to choose once and not be other things, i could not really determine if i made the best choice.

I can appreciate your perspective very much. To me though, the "amazingness" is a result of being caught in the middle of it all, and thus only experienced everything from inside the works.

most rocks enjoy being rocks. the earth, however, is a little unhappy the way Christians are treating it, hence not real happy right now.now Godd, on the other hand, is really enjoying being Godd.

Not just the christians that mistreat Mother Earth...

The ganges river in India is so foul and poluted.. and that was done by thousands of years of Hindus calling it a sacred river... wash in it, bath themselves and their cattle in it... whathave you.

Muslims drilling for oil in the middle east...

China is mostly buddists or ancestoralists... and their population is a huge strain on the land..

*sighs* Even the Native Americans... There are tribes here who won land through lawsuits. What did they do to it? Build casinos and strip malls...

When it comes to the degrigation of Maother Earth... blame humans as a whole.... But yes... christians have had a rather huge hand in it.

indeed, Silver.

gideon, where did the christians get their "the world is our dominion" idiology from? Christianity didn't come up with the idea of raping and pillaging the planet, nor were they the first to implement methods to do so. It is just because they worked so hard at "spreading the word" that the damage under christianity is so great. It is all in the numbers.
