UM-Bot Posted December 24, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 24, 2005 It's gigantic eye might give the kids nightmares for the rest of summer, but Melbourne Aquarium curator Nick Kirby insists his newest treasure — a seven-metre giant squid — is worth every cent he paid for it. The 250-kilogram creature, caught by commercial fishermen off New Zealand's South Island earlier this year, has cost the aquarium more than $100,000, which included purchasing and transporting the squid. AztecInca Posted December 24, 2005 #6 Share Posted December 24, 2005 Well I can just be there in about 25 minutes although as it is Christmas day down here it will be closed. The Melbourne aquarium is a quite nice although its just about to be doubled in size as a very ugly overpass right near it has just been removed allowing for it to be extended. Although that wont be finished until late 2007 I believe.

Usteing Posted January 15, 2006 #10 Share Posted January 15, 2006 (edited) That's disappointing. I was hoping that they were talking about having caught a live one, but then, after reading the article a little bit more, it's dead after all, preserved on a block of ice. Better than nothing I guess. Edited January 15, 2006 by Usteing
