I'd really like to vote in the poll but, there is no option in "What brings you to this conclusion" that fits.

Im curious, where else could you possibly get information besides the choices that are in the poll?

Quantum, look at the name of the second poll. It presupposes the idea that Bush is a bad president. Thats what people are talking about.

Yes but the thread is specifically for people who think he is a bad president. The point was to see how many got their info from the media that made them come to that conclusion.

Yes, but you cant honestly vote that Bush is a good president, because it forces you to give a reason why he is a bad president.

Thats true, I really should have put "average" instead of "good".

Its not that... its that the first part of your poll asks if he is a good or bad president. In order to vote on the poll, though, you have to answer how you know he's a bad president.

You should have said ‘what has most influenced your judgement of the President’. If you want I can change it, but it seems most people have already voted on it.

Second thing, you have to be more specific on what you mean by ‘first hand account’. Do you mean as Wun said, having met him in person? or that his actions have directly affected your life in some way. (ie his Government policies) Personally knowing the man is no way to judge his role as President.

Third, where did you get this figure of 75% of the media is liberal? Are you specifically talking about the American media? The global media? Who produced the results for this percentile breakdown of media political ideology? Not everyone falls into your black and white categories of Liberal or Democrat.

A point you seem to have overlooked is that one of the main roles of the media is to criticise the government. It is one of the few pressure groups that can effectively hold the government to account for their actions. Everything they do should be heavily scrutinised.

Someone like John McCain who was held for years as a prisoner of war, he knows what life is really like, not someone who skipped out on his patriotic duty

JK, I found your first post interesting, and agreed with most of it except this bit. Someone held for years as a POW I don't think is a good example of someone who knows how life (or more significantly, a normal life) is. Like the problem you address in your post, I think you too are being too extreme with the examples. Everyday life for a majority of westerners is not found in the Oval Office, or POW camps.

I think alot of the people need to take into account that these are very troubling times, and Bush just happened to be in office during these times. Compared to what life was like before 2001 things have changed for the worst. And alot of people seem to be inclined towards the presidency being at fault and its not.

The assessment of every President should be judged solely on how they deal with the circumstances of the day. The policies and diplomacy they employ to better the situation they find themselves in. Every leader is at the mercy of the current situation, not just President Bush. That should not be an excuse to not take responsibility for the actions taken under his administration.

I think you need to go back to elementary school and learn about how our government works.

I must be getting old; perhaps they now teach ‘political science’ in between learning the alphabet and reciting times tables?

dnb and PLO, please refrain from name-calling here. Labelling people ‘ignorant republicans’ or ‘crazy neo-cons’ because they don’t agree with your views is unacceptable and hardly conducive to any intelligent debate.

But he has done everything he can for the circumstances that are presented, But the media puts out that he's doing everything wrong. I was just stating these are times that we have never been through, no one is familiar with the threat, this is unknown terroritory for alot. But people are being swayed by what the media says to get their information on something that neither they or their parents or grandparents have ever witnessed.

So your saying that the taxes we pay go straight into the presidents pocket? Im sorry but it dosent. A whole different government organization regulates taxes and deals with them. The president has very little authority in that sector. He ma be able to regulate "cuts" thats it.

Not to the point were they are trying to sell a false image of someone.

"for the District of Columbia, the average ADA score in Congress (50.1) was assumed to represent the political position of the average U.S. voter."

wait a minute, from this point system theve awarded, their saying what, that america as a country, as a whole is socialist?

cause a funny thing, UCLA has a majority of Republican support amongst its student body, of course this cannot possibly influence the direction of its teachers, but i wonder how many of them are infact republicans.
