Along with porn sites, on the Army’s list of banned sites include mail sites such as Yahoo, AT&T, Hotmail. The censors are also blocking blogs and sites that do not agree with the current administration. One marine wrote to a site called Wonkette to tell them that it was on the banned list. He said he didn’t mind The Army blocking access to porn sites, because it was a government network but he and the troops were getting miffed that access to email and possibly-not-toeing-the-government-line websites was a bit much. Apparently the censorship is being done by the USMC Network Operations Center in Quantico, VA. They don’t like it when troops want read minute-by-minute updates of Anna Nicole Smith's appearance before the Supreme Court or read birthday cards to disgraced lobbyists. The military owns the computers in question. They can restrict anything they want...they own the computers. No one can tell a soldier that they cannot buy their own computer and they cannot tell them that if they do to restrict what websites they visit. If they wanted them to wear pink underwear on Tuesdays and eat pork every Friday then that is exactly what every single one of them have to do unless they get a special waiver. People in the military do not have the same rights or privileges (healthcare, housing, taxes, licenses, voting) as civilians, and that is also why they need special military courts. Many of them are putting their lives in danger on a daily basis. They are fighting and killing in the name of a cause, which unrestricted internet access, will expose as a fallacy. When you sign up for the military, you know from the start that they own you. If they want to restrict access to stuff like that on thier networks, that is thier own choice. Just like a schools, and employers ban websites they dont find appropriate..even if they do choose to block anti-bush, anti-administration, or anti-america websites. Soldiers are already going through enough over there, they dont need to see how a portion of thier county is abandoning them. The people who are over there chose to be there. They chose to sign up for the military knowing that they would/could go to war, and they knew that they would become property of the military. Good soldiers follow orders. Bad soldiers are often shot in the field by commanding officers. (See Civil War USA) That is the way war has always been. People sometimes commit atrocities on both sides in a war. It is a big reason to always try to avoid military conflicts. Humvee armor doesnt matter if you roll over an IED Abrams tanks are not even safe when it comes to IED's Body Armor is primarily to protect against shrapnel from Grenades,Artillary,ect.... the only bullets that body armor can defend against are small caliber ammunition like 9 mm. and if you dont have armor plating...I have read of grunts in the past that improvised with Sand-bags that seems to have worked fairly well. Yes, I would, because I know that, although there are a couple of bad apples in every group, the vast, vast majority of soldiers are not like you describe them.
