Seven British citizens had acquired "most of the necessary components" to launch a bombing campaign in the UK, the Old Bailey has heard.

Opening the prosecution case, David Waters QC said police intervened before the men could decide on a target.

All seven deny conspiring to cause life-endangering explosions between January 2003 and April 2004.

Three of the men also deny storing half a ton of fertiliser, which could be used in bomb-making, in west London.

The ammonium nitrate fertiliser was recovered after police searched a storage unit.

Two of the men are also accused of possessing aluminium powder, which can be also be used to make bombs.

Earlier, the judge, Sir Michael Anstill, told the jury they must "put aside" their opinions on terrorism.

The accused are Omar Khyam, 24, Waheed Mahmood, 34, Shujah Mahmood, 19, and Jawad Akbar, 22, all from Crawley, West Sussex; Anthony Garcia (also known as Rahman Adam), 23, of Ilford, east London; Nabeel Hussain, 20, of Horley, Surrey, and Salahuddin Amin, 31, from Luton, Bedfordshire.

Mr Khyam, Mr Garcia and Mr Hussein deny possession of the ammonium nitrate fertiliser.

Mr Khyam, along with his brother Shujah Mahmood, denies possessing aluminium powder.

Thankfully they were caught, as far as I'm concerned they should be put away for the same amount of time as if they had killed.

Earlier, the judge, Sir Michael Anstill, told the jury they must "put aside" their opinions on terrorism.

^^ Am I reading that correctly?

Seven British citizens had acquired "most of the necessary components" to launch a bombing campaign in the UK, the Old Bailey has heard.

And yet the judge said the above? This really shouldn't come as any surprise to me, our laws are getting more and more flimsy by the second! How on earth can a person put to one side their opinions on terrorism when this all points to another terrorist attack.

Thankfully they were caught although i am sure it will be a slapped wrist and a stern warning...

All judges will tell the jurry to put aside their personal feeling and concider the case on its merit. Even slime like this deserve to be convicted on the evidence, but not on openion not presented at the trial.
