Kryso Posted September 28, 2003 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2003 If as everyone is saying, that the American Government faked the moon landing, to get ahead of Russia, then surely they now have the ability to land on the moon? If so, then why haven’t they? Why haven’t they tried since the 1960’s?
Magikman Posted September 28, 2003 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2003 Simple explanation, money. The moon doesn't offer anything of significant value to justify the expense to continue exploration. They have enough trouble getting required funding for satellite missions.

kpruitt Posted September 29, 2003 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2003 If as everyone is saying, that the American Government faked the moon landing, to get ahead of Russia, then surely they now have the ability to land on the moon? If so, then why haven’t they? Why haven’t they tried since the 1960’s? Apollo 11 was the first moon landing. When Apollo 13 launched people were already bored with sending men to the moon. By the time Apollo 17 made the final moon landing in December of 1972 there was little public interest in going to the moon. In fact there was little interest in the space program at all. It was considered a waste of money. NASA then turned its attention to developing a reusable spacecraft, which they did... the shuttle. Now of course that program's future is in doubt and you'll probably see no manned space flights made by the U.S. until a new launch vehicle is designed, with the exception of us hitching rides in Russian spacecraft up to the space station. There is really no reason for manned landings on the moon any longer. Next stop for Man is Mars. And I imagine we'll be continuing to send unmanned probes to Mars for a very long time before sending men there simple because it's cheaper to send probes.
