Do Cats and Dogs See Ghosts?

I have seen this happen often and i believe that animals in general have the ability to sense spirits and also see them as well. Animals have great senses and it wouldnt be a surprise if they see spirits. I have seen a dog do this before. The dog was staring at the front door like someone was there but no one was there. Then the dog started to trail something and as he trailed it this foggish black cloud passed through the room and the dog ran after it but it went out the back door. Now that is interesting indeed.

Thanks for sharing your story, and it was a good one. :tu: Hmm, could be could be. I do think you're right [everyone]; most animals- cats and dogs at least- are more aware of the ...unknown.

I was trying to figure out, if there is any paranormal activity going on in the house, what source it would be coming from. We're the first family to live in this house as mah parents bought the land and it was built on it. And fact is, no one else has previously lived here before... Odd. I'll have to check that out somehow. I just dunno who to go to is all. :hmm:

As for animals I think they can perceive ghosts the difference between dogs and cats is dogs tend to ignore them most of the time and cats like to play with the energy, dogs get a bit spooked at times, cats tend to spook themselves. The difference between animals and humans perception, is animals have no filters, so perceive every thing we have filters for all kinds of reasons, upbringing education etc. that’s why kids perceive more than adults. If you whish to perceive more learn to remove the filters simple!

I dont think they can because i've got 2 very different dogs and i've often walked them through the graveyard. When i do i'll watch their reactions to see if they look at a particulat place or if they act as if they see someone....they never have (only live people  )

.

Cats by nature are very cautious and tend to jump or react to the slightest noise ...this is their survival instinct kicking in......but who knows ....

ive actually heard that graveyards, contrary to popular belief, are one of the less popular places for ghosts to hang out. this is because they dont have any emotional, mental, physical, or whatever else connection to them. ghosts tend to haunt places or even objets that they have a strong bond to, whether it be where they died, where they were born, got married, the path theyd always take walks on, what have you. but objects, as well, like a wedding ring, the mirror or fireplace they were always sitting in front of, their favorite doll, etc. the only connection most ghosts have to any graveyard is that they were buried there, which, of course, could be enough to support a strong bond between them and their gravesite. ghosts have been known to lurk around cemeteries, theyre just no where near as haunted as people like to think they are.

which leads to my main point that im not surprised your dogs dont have any strange reactions to the graveyard you walk them through. i personally do believe that animals are more in tune to things like the paranormal, weather, disasters, and the like.

for example, i dont know how many of you heard about or remember the i-35 bridge collapsing in the twin cities [minnesota] a couple of years ago, but i live in minnesota. the day that it happened, i was up at my lake place with my family, and we had our cat [pj, but he also goes by jinx and fatty] with us. my mom said that that morning, in the early morning hours , she woke up to see fatty sitting stiff as shed ever seen, and just staring towards the back of the trailer [my room]. he sat there like that for a while, and eventually my mom fell back asleep. all day that day, hed creep back to my room like he was hunting something, but would refuse to actually go into it. if we picked him up and brought him back there, hed just run out. later that evening, the bridge collapsed. the thing is, if you stand in my room and face the back corner of it, youre looking in the direction of the bridge. he had never acted that way before and has yet to do it again. so yes, id have to say animals are more aware of such things than we humans are. :) kinda makes you woder what all they see and hear, doesnt it?

I think my dog chased one out of the house one night.

He woke me up growling at the closet (he seldom growls at all), next he ran out of my room and stopped in the hallway where my closet was on the opposite side of the wall, then he slowly followed something, looking up and growling, occasionally wincing and backing up a step, down the hallway to the front stairwell down the steps and to the door. Once he reached the door he stood there then looked at me, started wagging his tail, and went back to normal like nothing happened. Of course it may have been some intense sleepwalking or something but is was still plenty creepy.

Most of the lights were out but there were still enough on to see everything around and I saw nothing but my crazy dog.

I also agree with BetterIfIStay09, people are already dead when they get to the graveyard, the same goes for hearses, very few people have had an untimely end in a hearse. If there are any really haunted places and vehicles I think it would be hospitals and ambulances. So next time you need a trip to the ER bring Fido with you and see what happens.

oddly enough I think they do.

one night while laying in bed watching tv I thought I saw a softball size golden light slowly drift past my field of vision. I dismissed it. the next day sitting with my brother watching tv I noticed in the kitchen , to which we had a clear view , the dog acting weird and alerted my brother. we watched the dog stare at the wall ... walk towards it and stop ... then walk up to it and sniff. then he started back like it was nothing. but where he sniffed just as he turned around ? me and my brother both seen that softball sized golden light go into the wall. ( no one electrical outlets or wiring of any kind there ) .

weird.

Do our pets, perhaps even all animals, possess some innate psychic ability??

Its an ongoing debate, usually with the psychically minded... and a lot of devoted pet owners on one side, and the more skeptical and scientifically minded on the other.

I say no... They are just more, ALOT MORE, sensitive than humans to visual, aural, magnetic and other subtle environmental factors and changes, and because we are not aware of these subtleties, their actions seem miraculous, and sometimes even spooky.

I think cats, dogs, and babies can see spirits...

well as i explained before, animals can be more intune with their senses and the earth, and pick up sounds (infra/ultra) that we cannt, thus know when certain things may be coming, so who knows, ghosts could operate in the infra/ultra sound wave lengths and this is why animals hear them and we dont always.

also, i fail to see any reason a baby could, but now we cannot. this 'feat' wouldnt just disapear on us as we grow.

I think that animals can see things that we do not always see (or hear or smell).

Whether or not they are spirits is debatable.

My roommate's cat does odd things sometimes, like look up at the ceiling and walk around like she is following something. We live on the top floor so there are not apartments above us.

She also comes into my room and stares at me though, and I am no ghost

Quite a few years back, a friend of my husband commited suicide. A couple days later, I had been asked to go to a co-workers home, as her daughter was selling childrens toys, of which I wasnt very interested in. I had decided not to go, but at the last minute I changed my mind. I just had the immediate feeling that I should go. That left my husband home alone with the dog. While I was gone, he was watching TV in the front room when the dog started having a barking fit at the front door, she continued to bark while moving like she was following something and she went thru the kitchen and then to the back of the house. My husband told me about it after I came home later that night. I have always thought that that was his friend's spirit saying goodbye. If I had been home I dont think it would have happened. So I do believe animals are very sensitive in these matters.

interesting story.

but i a dog barking at a front door of a house is hardly considered paranormal.

I don't think dogs, cats or babies can see anything that we can't. I do find it interesting, the claims of pets or babies seeing things. It's always things that can't communicate with us. Sort of a self fulfilling delusion. Dogs and cats and babies are simple creatures. They see something, they get obsessed with it until something else grabs their attention. I saw my cat stare at a wall for fifteen minutes because a car drove by and the sunlight reflected of the windshield onto the wall and the little spaz saw it right away. He kept looking at me like I could make it come back. Give a dog a treat. They will continue to follow you around waiting for another one until you tell them to leave or lie down. Little kids get obsessed everything. Especially babies. Everything is new and they try to figure stuff out. Watch a baby discover it's hands. Weeks of just staring at their hands trying to figure out how they work. Doesn't mean they caught a leprachaun, they're just inquisitive. If they see a bug, they will follow it for as long as they can. People give animals and babies too much credit.

ETA: Rather basic spelling corrections.

Yes I do think animals can see ghost. About 5 years ago my family and I moved into a duplex and right away we started to experince strange things in the house; hearing footsteps in the middle of the night, rapping sounds coming from walls that were not shared, things moving on there own, unexplainable shadows, and a ghost cat! We all saw the ghost cat, either it being a dark form jumping onto the counters, being see though and runing right in front of you or it walking on your bed at night. We had been living there for about a year when a cat followed my older sister home and all of us being cat people we kept her, as it turned out she was pregnant. She gave birth a few months later to 8 healthy kittens. As the kittens started to become more active and started to play endlessly we notice that sometimes it seemed they were playing with nothing or they were pounced on by nothing. This had gone on for months untill we found them all homes. It was really intresting to watch.

Yes, I do believe cats and dogs can see spirits. I remember our old dogs and cats used to look at something that wasn't there. They turned their heads as if they looked at something that was moving. Our dogs used to growl for no apparent reason as well. Once one of our dogs went beserk, and when I looked I saw this pale figure standing next to our dog. Our dog was furious and got really confused when this figure disappeared.

Our new dogs barked and snarled at something not there as well right after we got them. This has happened with every dog my parents' have had. The new dogs gets scared of something while the older dogs seems not to care at all, as if they have gotten used to it.

I've also noticed that our dogs have been nervous at the graveyard. My parents' have a beagle now and it is quite relaxed while in the car, except when the car is parked at the graveyard. He's always anxious there and wants to be petted constantly. When they drive away from the graveyard he calms down again.

One of my parents' cats tend to play with something not there, but I do believe he's just plain weird actually. ^_^

I believe yes that the animals can see spirits. I have adressed this subject myself and was given a not so believable reply. I have a ghost in my house and my dog does react to it. The haunting started some years ago after the death of my grandmother and I don't remember any of my other dogs reacting to it until my blue heeler started acting weird. I have seen her looking at nothing and following something down the hall and in and out of rooms. I think this happens more often than not and because we can't see it we just tend to file this behavior under "Weird things dogs do" and leave it at that. Just because we do not understand the true nature of the animals around us we are to quick to say that they could not see spirits and that it is just a myth. I probably would have a hard time believing it myself if I had not seen it happen in my own home.

I think animals are attuned to all sorts of energy planes that we know nothing about (eg- shifts in gravitation, shifts in magnetic north, etc.). It seems probable that animals would be much more attuned to ghosts than we would be. But it would be almost impossible to tell if they were perceiving a ghost because there are so many other things they perceive that we can't.

Say your dog stares into space and begins to bark. It could be a ghost. It could also be another dog barking 10 miles away, a thunderstorm 30 miles away, a scent so faint that we couldn't even detect it with scientific equipment, a subtle change in humidity, etc...

Relative to them we're SO clueless.

  • 5 months later...

I actually was searching if cat's could see ghost or something by the line of it and i found this, same is going on with me, i got a cat named Leah, she is always looking up to the ceiling and trying to scratch something out the wall or trying to grab something in the middle of hollowed air, she meows at me everything she looks at me and is always scared of something not there or yet i don't see, this morning when i was putting gel on i looked at the shower just for looking at it and she was very close to the wall lookign at it and moving her head like if something was actually there tempting her or moving itself, she is not a year old, only like 7 months old, my girlfriend found her on the street and felt connected to her because unlike many cats whom run away every time you wanna touch them this little cat went straight to her and played with her around, my girlfriend saw she was sick and told me about it, i told her to bring her to me, im studying medicine and i wanted to see if i was useful on something.

So 5 months later the cat now is my own personal pet and she is safe and well fed, but weird in every sense of the way, i am not much of a believer but i do know there are such ghost or wondering spirits around the world and there is another type of life that lingers around us all, my cat can see them, i know she can and now i see more people with same problems now im 100% sure of it... I guess this is gonna be fun when i get back home from college.

PS: I told what happened to my cat today to my council and she told me a story that was heard or happened in Republica Dominicana a nearby country from Puerto Rico were i live, there was this girl whom was very rebel with her mother, her mother had this cat who always wondered around, her mother was very sick and her child didn't cared much, her mother asked her to get water up in the river and her child screamed with lots of anger she didn't had to get that water for her, hours passed and she got it still, the little cat followed her every were and no one put attention to it, she told her mother and asked why the cat is always following, her mom didn't what to answer, so later on at night the cat dissapear and she went and took a shower, went to bed and obviously fell asleep, PS: This is told by the civilians around... The cat got to the roof and found his way inside the room of the girl and went berserk and killed her, police said she had cuts all over her body and the cat was the only thing inside the room when it was open.

I don't garanty is true but it if was, imagine how much strenght it has to be used, that cat must have multiplied it strenght x6 or x7 times more to kill some one... Anyways thx for reading and hope you guys find answers soon.

By what mechanism could an animal see a ghost that we would not be able to see? Their eyes work in the same manner as ours. The notable difference is the tapetum lucidum in nocturnal animals. It's the reflective "mirror" that allows better low- light vision.

I think it is because a family pet may act weird at certain times, for instance if a dog is in heat, it will whine, cry and bark even with nothing provoking it, except its own body chemistry. The other day I was joking with my mom. She came to visit and my dog Bosco popped his head up, perked up his ears, cocked his head and whined at the chimney. I told my mom, he was probably sensing a ghost (or a squirrel in the chimney). The thing is, animals act weird, it doesn’t mean it is sensing a spirit.

Think I commented on this sometime after moving into the family house but can't recall when and nothin' has changed. The St. Bernards still act "weird" around various places in the house and/or grounds and will bark at things that I can't see and will "play" with some invisible "friends".

It seems like it's getting to a point where anything that happens that people can't explain can now validate whatever weird things they already believe in.

Do you think its possible that our furry friends have capabilities we can only dream of? I always wondered if cats and dogs could see beings... from the other side. Of course we would never know because of communication barriers, but how would we ever know the possibilities if we could not further explore them? Afterall, cats and dogs supposedly see things in a whole different spectrum as we do, pardon the pun. [They're colorblind in popular belief.] So maybe their eyes are more vulerable to seeing things that just go past us?

I've always had suspicions that mah cat wasn't just psycho. I'm sure that she's seen ghosts of some sort, she acts so possessed sometimes its creepy. <img src="http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> For one thing, shes incredibly paranoid and if you pounce on her from behind or simply brush past her when she's lying down her hair jumps.

Certain sounds around the house trigger a reaction on her where she'll run in a panic frenzy for cover, like the sound of the doorbell or the microwave going off. And on occassion I'll find her all of a sudden looking up at the ceiling furiously, focusing her stare on something and moving "with it". She'll follow a trail of whatever it is she's looking at. Take today for instance, I came home and found her on top of the piano staring at the ceiling wall, and trying to crawl towards it to get a better look. Well, I looked up and there was nothing there. It was very unlike her, and lately I'll find her in the most unusual spost in the house doing her staring routine.

Also, she seems to run up the stairs frantically out of the blue. I know most cats tend to do things of this nature, but I know that it just has to be more than that. The other day, I was awake around 2 a.m. and was startled at the sound of a loud thud coming from the entrance of the house, when everyone else was asleep. I didn't even know that she was down there, but after hearing that I saw her sprint upstairs and cower under a couch. I still don't see what could have dropped to scare her without human force.

I had one incident where she was sleeping in mah bed and I was studying or reading. It was around 12:30 p.m. at night, and usually everyone else is asleep by then with an exception of mah mother who likes to check up on everyone before she gets to bed and checks the thermostat. Well, I began to hear soft footsteps on the carpet of the hallway. At first I didn't think much of it as I wrote it off as mah brother taking a trip to the bathroom or mah mom coming to check on the thermostat, but it sure did perk mah cat up, her name's Darcy, by the way. Her tail began wagging and she leaped out of bed and stood by mah dresser to get a good look at WHATEVER it was she was staring at, while still hiding from it. I finally mustered up the courage to take a look, and when I got up to take a look at it, nothing was there.

Coincidence? Who knows... I do believe that cats and dogs have better connections to the paranormal than we do, but it's not like they could ever tell us about it over a beer or something... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hmm.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm:" border="0" alt="hmm.gif" />

as one said cat and dogs i've heard does see in only black and white. but i've also heard many animals can see evil. i know this to be true, wicked spirits,(demons). can make any creature on earth see them,if they want them to.peace!
