Seraphina Posted October 7, 2003 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2003 In the UK (or at least in scotland), the legal age of homosexual sex has now been lowered to 14... Isn't that just a tiny bit insane, and opening the back door (no pun intended) for pedeophiles to take advantage of young boys, who don't fully understand what they're getting into? I'm not the morality police...I can understand if two fifteen year olds have sex...legal or not (but I definately would raise an eyebrow at a 15 year old and a 30 year old)...but 14!? Especially when you consider the fact that, given the frequency of aids and other STDs in gay men, a person doing that sort of thing NEEDS to use protection, and I just don't think a 14 year old is mature enough to do that every single time. The debate came from the fact that homosexual groups were complaining about the age of consent for homosexuals being 18, and for straight people being 16....how on earth lowering it to 14 is going to improve the situation I don't know. Benjo Koolzooie Posted October 7, 2003 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2003 I agree with you Seraphina. I think that they should just make it legal at the age of 16 for straight and homosexuals. Plus at 14, people are young and don't know what they are getting in to, correct. And has for the peadeophiles, yes it is making it easy for them to take advantage. That law that has been passed is insane.
Seraphina Posted October 7, 2003 Author #3 Share Posted October 7, 2003 In fairness, it was passed because some 31 year old had sex with a 14 year old, and there was a loop hole from a few decades ago that made it legal (the law just hadn't been recended). The SNP are calling for it to be recended now...but it's insane that the court decided to let it go. Crying out loud...it just shouldn't have come into play, and since it has, the government should have been on it and had it squashed within hours...it's crazy. Kryso Posted October 18, 2003 #4 Share Posted October 18, 2003 This always made me go... huh? Because the age for sexual consent lowers every year, (now down to 14) but to hire or see a rude (pornographic movie) is 18… Is it just me or does this seem a little contradictory? soulfire78 Posted October 18, 2003 #5 Share Posted October 18, 2003 The consenusal age here is 16, no matter the "preference". I think it's absolutely insane to OK sex for a child-and I'm sorry if this is inflammatory, but at 14, they are still children! For that matter, I believe 16 is too young, but by then, who would stop them? As far as porn is concerned, yes, that is quite the double standard isn't it. Much like telling young men and women (in the US) that they can fight for their country at age 17, but they can't have a beer until they turn 21! Seraphina Posted October 19, 2003 Author #6 Share Posted October 19, 2003 I think it's because, while the goverment is willing to accept that 16 year olds can...um...do it, for lack of a better term, they don't want to actually encourage it with porn. Partly because they probably think porn would encourage casual sex (which I don't think is a good thing...I think people can make their own choices about it, but sleeping with anyone 'just because' is stupid). Let's not forgot, we're dealing with the 'collective brain trust' here...if the censors think that shooting a zombie in resident evil will make you violent, they probably also think that watching porn would inspire a generation of men to become plumbers, and a young women to invite said plumbers into bed, because they saw it on tv

If this ends up being true, then it doesn't really matter whether folk watch porn when they are 16 or 22...it will still pose the possibility of forming an "undesireable" habit. shelby Posted October 20, 2003 #8 Share Posted October 20, 2003 Sorry all I need to put in my two cents... 14 and 16 in my opinion are too young. 18 to me is also borderline, but that is the legal " adult age" In my opinion we are forcing our young teens and adults to grow up way too fast and allow them to by all the information that is fed to them. Seraphina Posted October 20, 2003 Author #9 Share Posted October 20, 2003 I don't think sex at 16 should be encouraged...but I think it's all down to whether or not the people in question are mature enough to know what they're doing, and that they make damn sure they use protection. 14 is definately too young though...I don't think kids at that age would even have easy access to condoms, let alone be mature enough to know that they couldn't do it without one...it's all very crazy. I do think the 'loophole' that made it legal has been closed though. We're back to 16.
Nethius Posted November 6, 2003 #10 Share Posted November 6, 2003 when i was growing up, the law was something like this... a 14yo could have sex with someone under 16. and at 16 you could have sex with someone under 18.. . 18 and up was whatever i was exactly 2 years and 1 month older then me GF at that time... and we started having sex quite young.. and for one month there when I turned 16, and 18 we were having statatory "rape" sex. trust me it was consensual. this i do feel is okay... i think the laws are different now tho i feel this works very well. if people around the age of 15 are going to have sex, then it should be with people their own age. but when you have adults having sex with people under 18, this should not be allowed! Regardless if it's straight or gay sex (why does this even matter?)
