Imaginary Friend Posted May 28, 2006 #26 Share Posted May 28, 2006 western Europe is democratic, we don't have to worry about our leaders turning on us. True enough! It's already turned on you. When it outlawed fire arms, a viable weapon of self defense, and created a community of unarmed victims, to be preyed upon by the armed criminal element. A recent study of all the countries of western Europe has found that in 2001 Britain had the worst record for killings, violence and burglary, and its citizens had one of the highest risks in the industrialized world of becoming victims of crime.... (source) I remember after 911 a buddy of mine received a phone call from London about her brother. Seems himself, his lady and 3 friends, all of color and taken to be Arabs by a psychotic crowd, were attacked with machete's, baseball bats and rocks, because guns were outlawed and yet weapons abound none the less. Putting her brother on life support in hospital along with every member of the group of friends out for a night of dinner and a movie. And yet, for the first time in the history of British police, (Bobbies), they are carrying firearms! So please do not imagine America is obsessed with guns because we're senselessly paranoid. When you are a citizen class and the only one's armed are the one's empowered over you in the public forces, like military and police, you have already been betrayed by your government that disarmed you, while having you surrounded by armed to the teeth authorities. That's not a free country, that's a police state!
HurtingSpirit Posted May 29, 2006 #27 Share Posted May 29, 2006 Lol. Talon, your explanations are hilarious. Kind of ridiculous, but hilarious the same. You say that you don't want to be paranoid walking down the street that someone in front of you has a knife or a gun?? I am never worried, unless I am walking down a dark ally in a bad part of town at 10:00 pm alone, then well, if I get robbed and stabbed, its my dumbass fault for being in that area, at that time. See, us Americans like to leave the investigating, and crime solving to our police officials. We don't naturally assume that everyone who owns a knife is a killer, or is going to cut someone. But as Kratos said. I guess a tool that has been in use since before humans most likely could even speak, has outlived its purpose, and needs to be confiscated from the EU people. Schnaffler Posted May 30, 2006 #28 Share Posted May 30, 2006 Can't everyone just accept that we live in different countries with different laws and cultures? In the UK average people do not carry weapons, it's usually only criminals, the police and people who hunt. In the USA it is perfectly acceptable for the average person to own a gun. Instead of accepting these differences and understanding, it is easy to mock and look down on people who are different to you. I don't feel there's any need for the mocking and p*sstaking, that just shows an intolerance of other cultures and a lack of understanding or wanting to understand. Obviously, the Klingon blade is meant as a decorative weapon to hang on your wall or add to your collection, but I can guarantee there would be some moron out there who would buy it with the intention to use it. That's just the way of the world. The British police aren't asking us to hand in kitchen knives, they're just trying to get rid of weapons. Which makes perfect sense to me considering the laws of this country don't allow you to carry weapons without a license.

To get "around 30,000 " knives (even 1000) from the english streets is a brilliant thing, and is neither laughable or a waste of time. Wether or not a killer could still go and use a toaster instead of a knife is absolutely irrelevant.
Celumnaz Posted May 30, 2006 #30 Share Posted May 30, 2006 you're talking about the east end of Glasgow. "You've got a culture here Again Kratos this all boils down to culture Same thing over on this side. The problem isn't the weapon at all. Banning the weap won't help a bit if we're creating creative criminals.
