Why don't you take some classes???do you belong to a gym? What books are you gonna try? some hospitals have librarys and they are free to the public....Start there or a college library, do you hae a older sibling????

Well, I assume that the classes which I would need to take, my doctor and nutritionist would have also taken.

And hey, we're completely ignoring their input, so classes wouldn't help.

As far as I know, gyms specialise in exercise, and basic eating.

They wouldn't give me much help. They probably teach the same stuff as my PE class.

Books? Probably the ones labelled 'Milk' :tu:

Hospital wouldn't help, as my doctor has been ignored.

Library, well yeah. It's free, and that's where I'm gunna get the books.

And the Uni library, as far as I remember, also lets kids in :tu:

So yeah, I'll be doing a lot of reading in the next week :P

EDIT: Forgot which thread this was, oops

Certain gyms have access to a nutritonist, depends on the gym,....The YMCA most definitely does....

Nutrtion is a comprehensive study, a dietician isn't the same thing...Doctors aren't required to take much on nutriton i forget the actual amount but its not much...The hospital library is an excellent source of the latest in studys, its free and open to the public you can't take anything but you can read up on nutrition....Regular library i don't know , i'd say the best source or place to start is a degreed nutrionist....good reading let us know what you learn.....

Well, I am confident that I told you before that I saw a nutritionist.

She displayed a lot of awards across her office, so I'm assuming she's fully qualified.

She said that milk is important, among other things. She believes that meat is extremely important, but if one would like to be vegetarian - they are able, as long as they know how to make up for the lack of meat.

When I asked her opinion, she said that she would stay away from vegetarianism, and she completely avoids veganism.

Anyway, this is the milk thread, so enough about meat.

She said milk is necessary, I believe her.

there is a bottled water over here that contains the same amount of calcium as a bottle of milk but i think the calcium is in a way that the body and bones can absorb im not sure.

also this thread is sort of like the vegatarian thread where it comes down to one half saying milk or meat is bad and not drinking milk and just eating greens is more healthy lol. i still drink milk but i tend to drink alot of it when training as it is a good source of rapidly putting on weight.

there is no comparision to breast milk and formula, there are things in breast milk the scientist can't name...Its a sad day too that the 'formula calims formula is as good as breast milk.....A breast feedingmother will pass on her immunitys to this chld and protect this child from disease and illness while its immune system is developing..formula doesn' do this......

a formula fed baby is pasty and smells a breast fed child is rosy and smells sweet....the majority of a breast fed babys time will be held in a mohters arms not propped up somewhere with a bottle........

You ask any vet nursing mother and she will tell you there is never an excuse not to breast feed, it can be done........

Breast fed babys are smarter hands down, things happen inthe brain that don't happen in a formula fed child....A formula fed child will use alot of energy into healing after sickness colds and runny noses a breast fed child will put all of its energy into growing......IMO its jsut flat out ignorance ( the not knowing kind) to not nurse your child at least for a few days at least until it gets the colostrum...........many don't do it becasue of social reasons...

most care more about what someone will think instead of the childs health.....

This is an interesting thread and a good read.

My son was forumla fed because I simply could not produce enough breast milk. I wanted to breast feed, but sometimes a mother simply cannot. But, I did not prop him with a bottle, I held him in my arms to feed him.

But when you said a formula baby is pasty and smelly? My son always had rosey cheeks and did not 'smell'. I think this depends on different aspects?

But I do agree breast milk has things in it formula does not. But I doubt my son is any 'dumber' because of it. He's very healthy and rarely gets ill. Again, I believe this depends on different things. Your making formula fed babies sound aweful... :hmm:

I am sure your baby smelled sweet and had rosey cheeks.... and I agree with you.

She is just a little finantical.. I don't think she meant to offend ... but it did come across a little harsh

..No offense but the health care industry is about disease management not maintaining health, they make their money off of sick people, the circle of life will be complete with you, with the pharmacueticals suckling from your wallet, down the road, possibly you have really good insurance lol.......ah but don't listen to me you should trust your doctor...lol......

Having spent 12 years of my life in that very health care industry that you so easily belittle, I have to disagree with your comment that the industry is not about maintaining health and only about disease management. Did I also read somewhere that it also wasn’t about prevention? I’ll have to double check.

Health maintenance and preventative health maintenance are practiced at just about every level of the health care industry in some form or fashion.

I have spent countless hours formulating care plans and nursing diagnosis’ for individual patients, both healthy and ill, a large part of which includes prevention management of any future possible illness or disorders.

Another part of which includes maintaining the present health of the individual.

Another part of which includes patient education in order for the individual to continue to maintain health and prevent future health problems.

Maintain. Prevent. Manage.

Any person who walks into a doctors office, healthy and not ill, simply for a check up is practicing health maintenance and preventative health maintenance. They are not turned away at the door by us because they are not sick and therefore not going to need a prescription that will feed the wallet monster of the drug industry.

Lab tests may be run in order to determine at what stage of health a person is in and formulate a maintenance program of how a person needs to improve health, maintain health and prevent future episodes of poor health.

In the field of dermatology, patients are educated by physicians and nurses on a daily basis on how to prevent skin diseases in order to not eventually have to treat the symptoms.

In the field of pediatrics, healthy children are brought in on a daily basis for well checks and the parents educated on maintaining good health and preventative health.

In general practices, patients are educated by physicians and nurses on a daily basis on how to maintain a healthy heart, healthy lungs, healthy skin, healthy over all.

Visits to the dentists, not only to treat symptoms but for check-ups, practicing health maintenance and preventative health measures.

Take it down to the nursing aides, who turn elderly, immobile patients every 2 hours in their beds in order to prevent contractures and decubitus ulcers, therefore engaging in maintaining the patients current health status and preventing any future problems.

A few examples only that physicians and workers in the health care industry are capable of practicing health maintenance and preventative maintenance and not just “treating symptoms”.

Disease management, preventative health care and health maintenance are all intertwined. One maintains health in order to prevent illness and disease. If diseased/ill, they are treated with management of their disease/illness by prescribing a routine/medications which in turn maintains current health status and/or improves health status and at the same time are educated and treated in order to prevent progression or recurrence of the disease/illness.

Prevent. Maintain. Manage.

Just as your comments on the vegetarian thread that there is not a single protein based deficiency in the world, or that the “unhealthy vegetarian is a myth” (because there are uninformed, unknowledgeable vegetarians in the world), your comments regarding the health care industry not practicing preventative health measures and health maintenance simply are not true.

As for my opinion on the topic of milk? I personally think it goes down great, right along with the dead cow I eat twice a month. And that's my choice.
