Got milk? Got B.S.

Well, I thought the opinions from my doctor would be enough,

But hey.

Just for fun, I'm taking some sample milk to this scientist-guy, so he can analyse what's in it.

And I'm also going to go see a nutrition guy.

Whatever makes you happy.

Holy Cow!

Mods, please move this thread to the Urban Legends section.

Kidding...

I have been drinking milk all my life, I have seen people drink milk all their lives.

People have seen people drink milk all their lives.

People have been consuming large quantities of milk on a daily basis in India for generations and I dare say we survied and multiplied. Go take a look at our population count  Most people in India take only boiled milk. This is done mainly to kill some harmful bacteria and make milk hold longer without getting spoilt.

I take milk with cerals. Most of the times I put it in my coffee. I LOVE my coffee but drink it in moderation. I do not fall sick easily, never had any serious health issues. Infact, I am fit and very strong. Doctors tell me that my bones are strong. I have had several accidents but came out minimally hurt most of the times. I'm not attributing all this to milk, mind you.

Of course, I don't believe all those ad's saying milk does this and milk does that for you, but common sense tells me that it's not that bad either.

If you like it, drink it, if not, drink something else. End of story.

Ah yes, I agree with all you have said, Bone Collector.

However, I love proving people wrong, so I'm going around to a lot of scientists and food specialists around my area to hear their take on things.

So far, a doctor has laughed at the idea of milk being unhealthy,

And today he clearly stated, that he hasn't ever heard of milk related illnesses (in intelligent discussion, because of course he's heard them in other places), let alone diagnosed them.

On his special doctor-communication-system (probbaly just a website or soemthing),

He's going to inquire and see if anyone in Australia, has had to blame a problem on milk. ;)

mega,

why don't you just pay to access scientific jounals that have printed peer reviewed research on diet and nutrition? Far better to see what has been published and the reviews than asking just one person randomly picked (if you are randomly picking them).

Maybe BC, you have a strong heart, healthy lungs, and a working liver. Maybe you have never gotten sick, never broken a bone, and never developed cancer. Maybe your skin has been clear of blemishes, your eyes bright and your hair strong. And you look back on your life and all the milk you have drank :tu:

Maybe your exaggerated feelings stem from your dislike for it.

i did use dairy though cheese and i had common colds, ever had a cold???? asthma, skin issues including pimples..

I hardly catch a cold. No asthama, skin issues or pimples.

i'm guessing you are a young person,

I'm 25.

Sherri, let me tell that I too am a fitness freak. In spite of hectic work at office, I manage to take enough time out to exercise at my gym everyday. To stay strong, to build muscle, you need to eat stuff and stuff includes meat -chicken especially. You cannot build too much body mass just being a vegan. You can build a moderate muscled body but nothing comparable to the likes of meat eaters. I eat everything including fruits, meat, milk, grains, legumes etc, etc, etc. I drink lots of water, fruit juices and alchohol ocasionally. I am fully aware that too much of anything is too bad. So, I take everything in moderation.

The causes for most types of Cancer and other diseases are not yet clear. Some are genetic, some are not; to be short, we're not quite sure but this doesn't mean we can attribute all the things that we don't like to be the cause of all these diseases. Causes of many diseases are still wide open for discussion and we see people dishing out a million theories at the drop of a hat. Just because a discussion is open doesn't mean anything goes. Common sense is very important. I will give you an example. There is a very old woman in my city and she's seen four generations grow up in front of her; she's 120 years old. She's never had any serious illness or complaints whatsoever. She says her staple diet is curd and rice. What do you have to say about this?

Being hyper sensitive about everything you eat is a type of OCD in my opinion. If you dissect, research and over analyze things you eat, I'm sure you can find something or the other wrong in everything, then you can eat almost nothing on this planet, trust me.

of course its on you and if you don't like my message don't read it lol........

How would I know whether I'm gonna like it or not, before actually reading it? lol

BC this may surprise you but i'm a fitness buff myself..I want to say up front alcohol is not good for you not even in moderation although many do it and its touted as 'good in moderation" it isn't and again no medical journal will claim that it is it accounts for alot of health issues although you can injest things doesn't meant you are meant too.....

Also, the research is in many illness is food or water borne , many things come through the things we put into our bodys, yes genetics accounts for abit and that you may not have a say but the majority is up to you...many say this as a way to justify their lack of responsibility for their choices....

bone let me ask you what possible good is fruit juice read the labels its water and sugar, why would you not just eat the fruit.........

a friend of mine once said 'common Sense" is just that common meaning everyone does it...so it must be okay......

Why wouldn't i know what I 'm putting in my body, if it will lead to health or illness some call that paranoia I call it good sense. and wisdom...I enjoy life immensely and i have no health issues and at 39 that is a nice way to look at the future.....

I wanted to add its complete BS to say a vegan can't build muscle , Bill Pearl mr universe is a vegan as are a few other weght lifters.... lol and as a vegan myself i am quite muscular and fit , also i have always lifted and was a meat eater too and couldn't put on muscle changed the diet and that changed and its effortless now, I guess you do not know of ketosis excessive protien puts your body in ketosis, have you not noticed if you don't maintain eating a high protien diet you lose muscle why not research that tell me what you find out??????

Sure you can still build muscle as a vegan it is just twice as hard. By the way, Biil Pearl had steroids to help him

Wow Kratos, from what we have been told about the horrors of milk, I thought you would have been at the morgue by now.

-----

Anyway, I'm another person who have enjoyed dairy products my entire life. Haven't broken anything yet-- not even when 'landing' after an unexpected flying lesson from a horse last year. Neither does I get ill often, not even colds.

No plans to quit either milk or other dairy products anytime soon.

I don't travel with vegans because if I was to get in a situation where I had to eat my companions, I just don't think they'd taste that good. Like styrofoam or something. Bloody, delicious styrofoam.

eric to care and understand health and nutrition isn't a sign of mental illness, who told you that????? I don't want to split hairs here but fruit juice and fruit are not even basically alike other than in marketing....there is no fiber in fruit juice and the sugar is refined which means devoid of nutrients, fruit juice will literally rot the teeth out of a child ever notice the amount of kids with rotten teeth???? refined sugar is basically poision, you only need to read the label to get that......Alot of people call alcohol, sugar meat dairy treats and define life as no fun if they can't have these things, ( the advertisng genre works very well lol) I think not having my health would make life no fun and I beleive many would agree, its not unusual to not be concerned in your younger years even I've been guilty of that.....eric out of curiousity how could you possibly know that its harder to build muscle on a vegan diet ????you have never done it and the populous is 1% vegan its not the main stream and as far as Bill Pearl he might be very offended that you would say he takes steroids on hearsay...because that is all you have got......Question are you in sales for a living??????

Fructose is a simple sugar. That is a fact. I was a trainer for 8 years and my clients that were vegans had a harder time putting on muscle and loosing fat. Since I was in the bodybuilding scene. Steroids are the norm there. You can only get so much muscle naturally. All pro bodybuilders use or have used steroids. That is undeniable. Heck, steroid use in the NFL is over 80%.
