OK, this is a question that's been going for a little under 200 years. What is Jack the Ripper's real name? He was considered one of the most imfamous criminals in history, and the mystery of his real name adds on to the mystique of this legend. I've heard many allegations but i'm always looking for new opinions. So, what do you guys think?

JTR was: a doctor, familiar with the area, familiar to the locals, familiar to the police, more of a gentleman than a common laborer, well liked, never suspected, familiar with police procedures, and in control of himself. It sounds like Arthur Conan Doyle to me.

I can't find the book right now, but Patricia Cornwell wrote a book a couple of years back and said Jack the Ripper was an artist/actor by the name of Walter Sickert.

The book was good. The theory wasn't. JTR was sloppy on some murders, and very precise on others. In one case he removed all the abdominal organs-intestines, uterus, etc-with one swipe of the blade. That proves he was not only a doctor, but also a very experienced surgeon. Sickert never was a surgeon, or even a medical student. He lacked the skill to be Jack. Arthur Conan Doyle was an experienced surgeon.
