I know from personal  experience that the mind, while extremely powerful, is also directable  by your conscious mind, using control and discipline

There are cognitive skills you can learn to help overcome  you thinking in fixed/ traumatic patterns.

However it might be hard to find a professional, trained and experienced in teaching you how to do this. I   know there is a field of psychology which specialises in rewiring (through retraining, )  the brain, to overcome PTSD.

Brain entrainment would help immensely I think. It either suppresses or removes past traumas.

It might well do .

Music, and especially rhythm, has a powerful influence on the human mind.

I never found a need for music (although as a child this had never been suggested)  but i did the same thing with self  awareness and practice   by coming to understand the connection between neural states and "feelings" ie to make oneself; sad /happy/ ecstatic/amused/relaxed  etc., by  learning  the "feel'  of the neural activity, which was the basis for each response,  and inducing it on demand.

ie   induce a desired state of consciousness that corresponds with specific neural activity, such as studying, sleeping, exercising, meditating, doing creative work, and so on.

The human mind can learn to induce,  at will, ANY cognitive state, given understanding and practice of how such states feel and how the brain is firing as it constructs the feeling

The use of specific musical types would help a person consciously  make the connection,  and enable the required/desired neural response to be formed  more easily.

No I dont take Benzos at all. I take a medication called Effexor in the morning and I take a sleeping medication in the evening called Trazodone which helps me sleep. I would never allow a doctor to prescribe me any Benzodiazepines of any kind, long term that crap will kill you:yes:. Like I said the ground invasion into Afghanistan for me ended at Tora Bora, however, I was there long enough to here all communications between the Taliban and Bin Laden come to an end. There is no doubt he survived and escaped into Pakistan, and he stayed there until he was later killed. Like I said before, after we destroyed the Taliban we should have gone home, staying for 20 years because we might catch Osama was frigen idiotic, foolish, and totally ignorant, I mean we had nothing to gain from staying, but as history has shown we had a great deal to lose.

We lost in Afghanistan for the exact same reason we lost in Vietnam, in both cases we never truly had the intention to win those wars. In both cases we had the ability to win, we had the best trained soldiers, the best leadership and the best equipment. However, we were unwilling to do what was required to win, in Vietnam, it would have been required to invade the neighboring countries where the Viet Cong were moving their supplies, and attacking the Capital of North Vietnam. In Afghanistan all we needed to do, was to not stop at the boarders of countries which we did and which also allowed the terrorist to rest and refit.

Peace my Brother.

My heart goes out to you Manwon. I can’t imagine what you have gone through and I deeply thank you for your service to our country.

At his level of PTSD there isn’t much available what is offered is a stellate ganglion block (SGB).

Or high doses of ketamine are administered under anesthesia with a doctor present to try and dislodge the trauma unfortunately it doesn’t always work and is very expensive and disappointing when it doesn’t work which compounds the PSTD.

I am certain Manwon has tried everything he can.

Jeezus!!!   Ketamine causes PTSD, it should never be used to TRY to "cure" it.    Even smart veterinarians  don't use ketamine any more.   I quit using a vet after he did surgery on my dog and it took her months to get back to normal, the surgery was simple, removing tumors on her skin.  But he used ketamine and she was a basket case for months.  I would never allow anyone to give that to any of my pets NOR my children or other loved ones.

It sounds like your dog had a reaction. Ketamine is used all the time in surgery. I say do what works for you

Apparently it is a common reaction because the vet I use now said he would never use it as it seems to him to always cause mental issues for the animals.  If it does that for animals it is probably just as bad for humans.  I know ketamine is used all the time in surgery, but it should not be.  It is still used for race horses and usually when you retire a race horse they are really messed up and not like a normal horse.

My employer a Neurologist did the huge dose of ketamine under anesthesia for her PTSD, sadly, it didn’t help.  It sounds like ketamine and animals don’t mix. Thanks for sharing.

I hope your employer finds a way to help her PTSD.    I have been told by several people suffering from PTSD that Rapid Eye therapy helped them a lot.  You have to be sure the practitioner is trained properly though, in the 90's there were a lot of people putting up shingles that hadn't.  Don't know if that has changed or not.

Awww, thanks.  She has had no success with anything so far, she is looking into some kind of brain operation that supposedly blocks the trauma  but it is so risky and few doctors do it. She lives with horrible chronic pain too. I am sorry about your dog, too.

Oh, lord tell her to try REMT first before letting anyone cut on her brain.  Has she tried cognitive therapy?  My opinion is that drugs should only be tried after the non drug therapies fail or if there is proven a chemical issue that can only be fixed with chemicals.   and surgery, OMG.  I know a lot of people want that magic pill and I think that is where our society has taken the wrong turn.   Not many agree with me.   The easy way out is never the best way out.

I agree, if one can. I have areas that are sensitive and can cause me a lot of discomfort if I don’t take care of myself consistently, when I do (for me) a daily yoga practice works to keep me pain free, and massage helps too, but if I neglect myself, eat poorly, have more weight than appropriate, do not get enough sleep, ignore signs of stress, go long periods without exercise or am too sedentary my neck and shoulder become chronic and it is a long road to get out of pain. I am always grateful that I can eventually get out of pain, but the day may come I cannot. While I prefer more holistic approaches to pain mgt.,  I will not suffer.

As a Caregiver, I work with those that have chronic pain and it is no joke. It wears a person down on many levels. I use massage a lot, it really helps if it is consistent, done as much as needed at times this can be most of the day. Often it is all we have that helps. I work with Parkinson’s and there is so much pain with this for the person when the medication wears off so in between doses while the person is waiting for it to work, massage or exercise even stretching ( or riding a stationary bike truly helps). Exercise even mild amounts release endorphins the bodies natural pain reliever.

I hear you on stay away from brain surgeries. Eeks.

I know about pain, I took care of my mother when she had cancer.  The doctors did not manage her pain, just upped the dosage of her oxycontin and oxycodone, which does not alleviate pain, it does affect the brain and it is bad.   I have seen too much callousness from doctors and have some anger about it but even before I took care of my mother I have been lucky enough to not need any long term pain relief.   I do yoga to stretch my muscles and like you, when I am sedentary I feel it in my muscles.   I try to be proactive, only once did I need a doctor to help me with my back.  I chose the acupuncture route because I knew it was stress, tight muscles  and I did not want any pills.   I am just averse to that and I do speak out too much about it.  Everyone has to find what works for them.   My mother could have had better last years if the doctors had actually listened to her and tried other things besides opiates.

I had an injury that let me understand that I do not handle pain well, so I keep myself as fit as I can to eliminate that type of injury again.

Excellent post, IMHO, it boils down to the same things anyway, a proactive attitude, eat healthy, exercise, have good stress management skills, and be in tune emotionally. Just doing this gives the person their best health whatever that is for them. Glad to hear you take such good care of yourself, it is inspiring.

Thank you.  I still have my moments, but at least I know how to get back on track.   It sounds like you are doing a good job managing your pain.   I have recommended yoga to a lot of people who have back issues and sleep issues.   It gets the blood moving and it keeps the muscles toned.

Yes, Yoga gets a person in great shape mentally and physically. I have the in home hot yoga dome https://www.thehotyogadome.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjwyvaJBhBpEiwA8d38vFsbWWKSm4ZR4omIrNco5Q2UYm3Cd3eb_15k3C6e2AQHVYo02CGPjBoCwzQQAvD_BwE

I use it all the time for my hot yoga practice. I prefer heated as it enables me to get deeper into my muscles, my job is so physical, I lift a 180 pound man who is barely able to walk, I couldn’t do this job if I didn’t have a regular hawtha yoga practice it gives me the strength needed and keeps me aligned and mindful of using my body safely and correctly, I also love  sweating out the toxins I accumulate through the day and it keeps the skin beautiful too.. I teach my patients yoga, anyone can do it or it can be modified for any situation.  I love that you practice, it is really nice to share my love of yoga with one who loves it too.

Not really weird I guess, but interesting.

Each piece of this dream can be connected to something I read, saw, or discussed, during the last 24 hours

It began with me and others flying over a local seaside hamlet which was slightly different in my dream to real life We were checking out a potential new home.

We turned inland, flying East  over typical Australian bush land, but then a very tall steep escarpment rose up in front of us

It was over 500 feet high, and rose a t a 45 or greater angle.  It took some mental  effort to fly up and over the top.

I was wondering what we would find at the top, but it turned out to be just a steep solitary ridge which went down as fast as it had risen

As the land flattened out we arrived a t our second destination.

This was an entrance to an underground sports arena.

It was few metres underground and  about 40 feet in height

it was several hundred yards wide and long.

It included a number of playing fields and also some office and change room space .

We had come to play a game  like basket ball but one in which you could fly up high to pass and   to goal (  Influenced by watching  "Dead  Gorgeous",  where  3 girls from  150 years ago come back as ghosts, and one is trying to use her powers to play basket ball )

The people with me were a girl's team,  whom I had taught to play and to fly, as a part of my role as teacher.

There weren't many spectators because   it  was a sort of secret (given that the players could fly )  which is why the complex was under ground, but a few people, like parents,  came to watch

It required mental fitness, gained by training and practice,  to exert yourself enough to fly faster and higher than your opponents

After that we left, and I let the girls go on ahead, in groups or as individuals. We were now flying north to a campsite about 20 miles away,  where we would do aerial orienteering and other skills designed to further develop their   flying and  navigation skills ,including night flying/navigation .

I had just begun to fly off myself, when our cat jumped on the bed and woke me up :)

Watching "Supergirl"  recently   probably influenced my subconscious into the choice of this dream.

A few nights ago I dreamt that I was fishing and as I was trying to reel in a fish, a bear -that was in the water- snagged my fish so I ended up reeling it in as well.

I tried pulling on the rod hoping to snap the line but that didn't work as fishing line is kinda hard to snap so I tried yanking the fish out of the hears throat/stomach/whatever but no go so I had to get a pair of scissors and cut the line.

Because dream settings sometimes change on a whim, instead of being on a lake I was in my house where I knew a pair of scissors was and cut the line. The bear crawled out and just then my dad came into the room and I tried to warn him of the bear -it was a small bear- but the bear just stood in front of my dad and seemed oblivious or tame.

During the entire time the bear was never mean or aggressive but it was an odd dream nonetheless.

You dreamt you were fishing.  In reality you really are fishing...trying to catch something, not knowing what you will actually get, but hoping something good will come out of the water...which, in your awakened life is...your emotional state.  The bear took your bait...something strong, overpowering, and uncontrollable in your real life.  You cut the line because you fear the bear.  In reality, the bear was harmless and not as big and mean and ferocious as you had imagined.

Your dream suggests that you are in a search for something, but afraid of the consequences of pursuing that which you desire.  Maybe afraid of failure?

Your dream also suggests that you are prone to 'quitting' before you reach your goal, for fear of what others might think.

Just my opinion based on my experiences in dream interpretation.

My dreams have been weird my whole life. As much as science tries to explain dreaming away as just our mind toying with us while we sleep I’m pretty sure it’s far more than this. Dreams are traces of future events that could or will happen. It’s 50/50 because any slight altercation could change the events. And I’ve figured out it’s rare to get it all in one dream at least for me. It takes a few days or a week or two worth of dreams to figure it out.

I think you are right that our dreams are not just our mind toying with us while we sleep.  There is a purpose for our dreams. And you are right as well that some of our dreams are about future events that could happen. You are not right about future events that will happen however because; there is no future.  It doesn't exist.  But definitely warning dreams are a real thing.

In my experience dreams can be like a computer programme which takes a lot of data, and predicts future probabilities with reasonable accuracy.

They can then also show you  how to  alter the future, by altering the present, (making different choices)  and thus altering the probabilities  of a particular future.
