Until the plow was developed, life was pretty much hand to mouth existence - little to no time for anything but gathering/hunting food... Virtually 100% of the population was dedicated to the pursuit of food... With the plow - a smaller percentage of the population was necessary for agriculture and a larger number were freed up for other pursuits (science, art, exploration, etc)... The plow also helped ensure that there would be a steady abundance of food, and so we lived healthier lives with fewer famines... Without language we probably would not have developed into human - so language was most likely (IMO) a pre-human development... The plow was humanities most important single invention/development...
