Mountain Dew myth

From the begining of time for Mountain Dew the myth has spread around that drinking mountain dew, single can or regular daily use can reduce your sperm count or make you sterile for that matter? is there any solid evidence that could back this up?

what ingredients could they put in there that could have this effect?

would it be something to worry about if you are trying to have children?

list of ingredients

Carbonated Water, Glucose-Fructose AND/OR Sugar, CONCENTRATED ORANGE JUICE,

CITRIC ACID, FLAVOUR, SODIUM BENZOATE, SODIUM CITRATE, ERYTHORBIC ACID??

CALCIUM DISODIUM EDTA, GUM ARABIC, COLOUR-AKA YELLOW#5(TARTRAZINE)???

AND BROMATED VEGETABLE OIL!! lots of weird stuff, it dose not say that the colour is yellow#5 witch contains tartrazine that is an industrial toxin linked to adhd and other medical problems maybe it is maybe not?

Actually, the myth goes back to the mid 90's and is, obviously, completely ridiculous.

There's no reason to believe Yellow 5 does anything of the sort unless you're highly allergic to Tartrazine, in which case it may make you slightly sick. The actual myth was started because of high caffine in the drink, but if anything this increases fertility, and does not have an effect on sperm count. Plus an average cup of coffee boasts more caffine than this drink for equal voume.

Here's a small article on the matter.

people used to think Fanta and even Tango, did the same as the Mountain Dew myth.

dose not explain or conclude the myth but is dose state that the ku klux klan added drugs that cause sterility in foods and drinks common with black people. if this is not true the myth should be a fact witch it is not so i do not really want to discuss this anymore because you are all just going to shun me down for saying anything!

Umm... what?

Most myths are just that. Myths. IE, not real. I was simply pointing out the simple fact that this is untrue, as any source will show you. That is not 'shunning' someone.

If you would like to post a source that states there is evidence the Klu Klux Klan did just that, feel free. However, i extremely highly doubt it. And Mountain Dew is not a 'black people drink'.

the link you gave me stated that it is a black person drink, and that is why th KKK added those drugs that is a myth all on its own. i dont care lol. and unless there is a scientific study saying that mountain dew dose not reduce your sperm count i will continue to believe my myth...mmmk

lol, there is.

Rumormongers attribute the soft drink's alleged spermicidal properties to its high caffeine content (55 mg. per 12 oz. can, versus 45.6 mg. in Coke and 37.2 mg. in Pepsi) and/or the coloring agent Yellow Dye No. 5, but there's nothing in the scientific literature to support either claim. The FDA determined long ago that Yellow Dye No. 5 poses no health threats to non-allergic people, and as for caffeine, there's evidence to suggest it actually increases the motility and effectiveness of sperm cells, not the opposite.

Fair enough, the article does state the drink is favoured amung the black community.

I love mountain dew and have been proven to be rather fertile.

I wouldn't doubt if the KKK didn't pee in a vat of the stuff, or worse, if they thought it was going to colored folks though. No proof, just sounds to me like something they'd do.

I expect they'd be more likely poison the stuff rather than simply slip a chemical in there that may or may not increase potential chances of infertility in a few black kids.

I remember hearing in middle school that Mt. Dew shrunk your manhood... that was kind of scary being ignorant to the facts.

well the way that the KKK, and Nazi's work is they find ways to exterminate eliminate,

aka jewish death camps like Auschwitz, but with tight security a large police force/military i don't think there will be a revolution anytime soon that starts lining people up and eliminating them with gas, a practical way would be to slip fertility drugs into lots if not all of the foods that are common and popular with black! better than breeding them out, just letting them die out. but please i'm not going to support whatever these people do i just want to know about the mountaindew myth :(:(:(

and for slipping poison in there that would be an attempt at genocide and would be prevented very quickly as for sterility drugs that may gave gone undetected for years!

maybe they were jealous of the average difference in size between white and blacks...hehe

Surely if at one point they did put something in the formula, it would have been LONG gone by now. Chemicals don't reproduce themselves, the vat would be emptied into several cans and long since drank or thrown out.

To take a joke like a normal person...the joke must be somewhat normal. Not disturbingly descriptive...(even if it didn't have much description)...lol
