Anyone heard anything like this?

Awhile back a friend of mine was describing a loud....and what she termed as BIG sound coming from the sky at night....usually very late or in the pre-dawn hours. She described the noise as actually sounding like a fleet of UFOs. And when she would go outside to check it....there was absolutely nothing that she could see. She said that the noises were definitely not from planes.

There seems to be some synchronisity involved with this....recently in another forum to which I belong.....an individual just described a similar experience....nearly word for word......and just yesterday I was describing to another friend who runs a Metaphysical store in town the similar experience of my friend and the individual in the forum.... she said that another woman came into the store looking for any help.....anything to help block out the sound....as it was driving her crazy.

Has anyone heard anything like this?

Yes,

They are always planes, they're just hard to see at night. I live over a mile away from the airport near me and if the winds blowing the right direction I can hear (and it's very loud) the boeings that take off there.

No airport nearby where these individuals live.....and it is right overhead. And the sound...as it has been described....is distinctly different than a plane or jet.

There is some sound that some people can hear like a vibration but I can't remember for the life of me what it's called. It's supposedly really irritating.

Or it could be thunder.

Coldethyl, are you referring to what is known as the Taos Hum? Apparently, in Taos, NM, some people hear a hum that never ceases.

Glad I don't live there! I have enough trouble with the level of the bass on my neighbors stereo!!!

This phenomena is quite well known to some folks. Actually the cases go back at least a couple hundred years. Certain people sense and also actually hear low pitched humming noises like machinery of some sort. Often it feels as though it is coming from beneath the earth. I don't think there is ever a conclusive end to the sounds and some people have had long-term problem coping with it. Hope yours is very short-term.

I remember watching the show about NM. Can't remember if it is just limited to that area or if surrounding areas are also affected. It was so sad that when people were describing it they would cover their ears and say just make it go away. Have never heard about the noise from the sky.

It was a sonic boom what the secret super sonic jets make. You probably didn't see anything because they (acording to sources) have cloaking abilites now.

Thanks everyone for your input. I have heard about that Hum....and I believe that I have actually heard it....sounds like it is coming from everywhere actually. Whether or not this is what these other three indivdiuals have heard...I don't know.

It was loud enough to rattle the windows and dishes in our house and it was coming from the sky, even though the sky was clear. It didn't sound like thunder or airplanes. It sounded more like a series of explosions above us. We still have no idea what it was, but we've gone on the assumption that it was some sort of natural phenomenon. If you ever find out what it could be I'd be interested to know.

About three years ago I heard something very similar to what you are describing. It was about 7a.m. on a Sunday morning. I remember getting out of bed and going outside to kind of collect my thoughts for the day. Maybe 5 minutes after I got outside I heard what I would describe as 3 (sonic?) booms in succession. It was clear so it wasn't thunder. It could of been a supersonic jet, but I thought there were laws against breaking the sound barrier over populated areas. Anyhow never figured out what it could have been, cool I'm not the only one that had an experience like this.

I'm still intrigued as to what a fleet of UFOs does sound like - "actually sounding like a fleet of UFOs"...

In the mid-1970s southern Britain experienced a whole series of 'Nocturnal Booms'. Here they always occurred at 9.20pm on a Monday night during the autumn of 1976; they were loud enough to rattle houses in one street, yet be inaudible in the next - a very weird sonic 'footprint'. One study by the University of Bristol suggested it was a sonic boom caused by Concord, although it clearly wasn't - even the local RAF airbase went on alert one night when they believed the boom had been an possible IRA bomb attack.

It got to the point that the whole neighbourhood was going outside ready for 9.20pm, and although we all heard a very loud boom, it wasn't a distant rumble, but eminated from a very specific point in the night sky. After 7 weeks I finally put my researcher's hat on and tried to record the boom on (audio) tape, needless to say the boom then failed to oblige; the night and times then became random before disappearing in the early part of 1977 - note Concord was still flying for another 20-odd years without causing the same booms! The next time I heard the same type of boom was during a daylight UFO sighting in 1980.
