In late November of 1988 to young amature fossil finders were prospecting the river of the Puntledge- "RIGHT BESIDE MY HOUSE" and stumbled across what would be the greatest find in BC. it was the first of its kind west of the rockies. you can still find fossils there, vertebrate fossils, such as mosasaurs, turtles, and fish -along with the invertebrate fossils of shelled creatures that lived in the warm, shallow ocean surrounding Vancouver Island 80 million years ago. very exciting!!! the creature stays at the courtenay museum with more than 400 million years of history. (If you wanted to) YES! it is a great museum and they have great tours of local specimens, and local native artifacts, also there is fossil tours that you can take and collect your own.
