__Kratos__ Posted October 9, 2006 #51 Share Posted October 9, 2006 CENSORSHIP! Web sites remove videos mocking Muhammad COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Videos showing anti-immigrant party members mocking the Prophet Muhammad were pulled from Web sites Monday as two youths seen in the clips were reported in hiding and the Foreign Ministry warned Danes against traveling to much of the Middle East. ADVERTISEMENT Muslim clerics from Egypt and Indonesia condemned the video broadcast in Denmark last week showing members of the Danish People's Party youth wing with cartoons of a camel wearing the head of Muhammad and beer cans for humps. A second drawing placed a turbaned, bearded man next to a plus sign and a bomb, all equaling a mushroom cloud. In a move aimed at defusing tension, the Danish Foreign Ministry invited ambassadors from Muslim countries to discuss the video Monday. It was unclear how many diplomats took part in the meeting or which countries they represented. Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen condemned the youth in the video Sunday, saying "their tasteless behavior does in no way represent the way the Danish people or young Danish people view Muslims or Islam." Citing critical media reports from many Muslim regions, the Foreign Ministry cautioned against travel to Gaza, the West Bank, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey. "Against that background, we urge Danes to use caution as the matter could possibly lead to negative reactions. The atmosphere and reactions can vary dependent on time and place. Danes should be aware of the local mood," the ministry said. The video was produced by an artists' group, Defending Denmark. In a message posted along with the video, the group said it had infiltrated the Danish People's Party Youth, known as DFU, for 18 months "to document (their) extreme right wing associations." "This is not an example of something that is meant to provoke. This is an example to show how things are in Danish politics," artist Martin Rosengaard Knudsen told Danish public radio. The clip was removed from that broadcaster's Web site Monday, as well as from the Nyhedsavisen newspaper's site. The purpose of the original publication was "not to insult Muslims or expose any members ... to any danger," said the paper's editor, David Trads. A party official reportedly said that two youths seen in the video clips had gone into hiding. "They are very shaken by the huge reaction the drawings have had," Kenneth Kristensen was quoted as saying on the Web site of the newspaper Politiken. In Jordan on Monday, a powerful umbrella for some 200,000 professionals including engineers, doctors and journalists, said the video "reveals hatred toward the Prophet who came to the world with a message to enlighten the people." "We call on all Muslim states to sever relations with Denmark or any other country which harms Islam," the associations said in a statement. They said the video revealed the "nature of the struggle between Muslims and their enemies which are led by America." The associations are vocal critics of the moderate policies of Jordan's pro-Western government. Hard-line Muslims and leftists in these associations have repeatedly called on the government to abolish a 1994 peace treaty with Israel. The episode comes in the aftermath of an outcry across the Muslim world after the original September 2005 printing in Danish newspapers of 12 cartoons portraying Muhammad — considered taboo for most Muslims. Four months later, the images were reprinted in a range of Western media, triggering massive protests from Morocco to Indonesia. ---------------------------------------------------------------- I'm disgusted at the removal of free speech by free people! __Kratos__ Posted October 10, 2006 #53 Share Posted October 10, 2006 ^ Yep, guess so... Update: Denmark warns against travel as Muslims decry cartoons COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Denmark acted on Monday to calm Muslim indignation at a new series of cartoons ridiculing the Prophet Mohammad and advised its citizens against traveling to the Middle East as Islamic leaders condemned the drawings. Muslim anger was roused when a public Danish television station aired amateur video footage showing members of the youth wing of the anti-immigrant Danish People's Party (DPP) taking part in a competition to draw images mocking the Prophet at a summer camp in August. The foreign ministry said in a statement on Monday that footage of the cartoons was first posted on the video-sharing web site YouTube, which is not hosted in Denmark. "Danish television channels TV-2 and DR later aired extracts," it said. "The intention of airing the extracts was not to provoke Muslims but to illustrate the matter in an interview on DR with the chairman of the DPP Youth Organization, who distanced himself (from) the video clips." The ministry issued a strong advisory to Danes against travel to the Gaza Strip and cautioned against travel to Israel and the West Bank, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey. "A militant group in Gaza has made threats against Danes in the Palestinian areas in connection with the (cartoon) matter on October 9," the advisory said. "We urge Danes to use caution as the matter could lead to negative reactions." Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, heavily criticized in the Muslim world earlier this year for refusing to apologize for a previous assortment of Danish cartoons lampooning the Prophet, has condemned the behavior of the DPP activists. The DPP is not a member of the ruling coalition, but supports the government in parliament. Denmark's second highest foreign ministry official met ambassadors from Muslim countries in Copenhagen on Monday to explain the prime minister's position. MUSLIM REACTION In Tehran, Iran summoned the Danish ambassador to complain about the broadcast, and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said those who insulted the Prophet were "low life" devoid of human values. Lebanon's top Shi'ite Muslim cleric, Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, did not blame the Danish government for the latest drawings, but called for unspecified legal action. "This nonchalance toward the continued insults against Islam could set the stage for negative responses due to inflamed emotions," he said in a statement. "We affirm that Muslims should respect Westerners and not insult them," he added. "We affirm that Westerners should respect Islam and refrain from insulting Muslim sanctities so this doesn't turn into a hot or bloody (issue) with reactions that harm the relationship between Muslims and Westerners in one way or another." The 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) also condemned the cartoons, saying the values of tolerance were eroding in Europe. "The OIC spokesman deplores the act of caricaturing of Prophet Mohammad by the youth members of the Danish Peoples Party and this being shown, regrettably, on state television," said a statement sent to Reuters by the Jeddah-based OIC, the world's largest Islamic grouping. The Egyptian foreign ministry branded the behavior of the DPP activists "childish," saying it reflected ignorance of Islam, but urged Muslims to exercise self-restraint. A year ago, a Danish daily published cartoons of the Prophet, including one showing him with a bomb in his turban. Muslim clerics denounced those cartoons as blasphemous, sparking protests in which more than 50 people died in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Angry Muslims attacked Danish embassies and boycotted Danish goods in several countries. Most Muslims regard any depiction of the Prophet as offensive. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Danes use free speech and now have to watch their backs from dangerous people. __Kratos__ Posted October 11, 2006 #58 Share Posted October 11, 2006 Update: Denmark warns of new cartoon crisis with Muslims COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Denmark said on Tuesday a new cartoon crisis with the Muslim world could erupt after Danish television stations broadcast footage last week deemed insulting to the Prophet Mohammad. In Tehran, dozens of Iranian protesters pelted the Danish embassy with stones and petrol bombs, witnesses said. Riot police guarded the embassy. Muslims were angered when Danish television stations aired footage on Friday of members of the youth wing of the anti-immigrant Danish People's Party (DPP) drawing cartoons in August mocking the Prophet. Iran condemned the broadcast. In September last year the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten published cartoons that Muslim clerics denounced as blasphemous, sparking protests early this year in which more than 50 people were killed in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. "(The latest cartoon issue is) smoldering around in the Muslim world. We hope it will die out but we don't know if it will pass," Danish Foreign Minister Per Stig Moller told the Danish national broadcaster DR. Most Muslims regard any depiction of the Prophet as offensive. "Don't forget that the (last) cartoon crisis broke out four months after the drawings were first published, so I can't guarantee anything," said Moller. CONDEMNATION This time Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen acted quickly and condemned the behavior of the DPP members. He was criticized earlier this year for refusing to apologize for the previous cartoons of the Prophet. The DPP is not a member of the ruling coalition but supports the government in parliament. Moller said he had talked to Iranian and Syrian leaders and that he hoped the government's efforts to calm anger in the Muslim world would bear fruit. "The question is what the religious leaders will say at Friday prayers," he said. Witnesses said the protesters outside the Danish embassy in Tehran chanted "Down with Zionists" and "God praise the party of God." The protesters set fire to a tire next to the embassy compound wall but firefighters put it out. Denmark's ambassador to Tehran was summoned to the Foreign Ministry on Monday about the television footage. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has condemned those involved in the footage as "low life." More than 230 legislators in Iran's 290-seat parliament urged Ahmadinejad on Tuesday to cut Iran's trade ties with Denmark, the semi-official Mehr News Agency reported. "The past attempts of the Danish government regarding this insult (to the Prophet) have been repeated, this time by the visual media," said Mehr. Danish industry praised the government on Tuesday for taking swift action to calm Muslim anger and said a Muslim consumer boycott of Danish goods, like the one that occurred earlier this year, had been largely avoided. "This unfortunate matter has been handled competently by the government and so far we've only had two companies in Saudi Arabia report that they were affected," said Peter Thagesen, a senior adviser at the Confederation of Danish Industry. Total Danish yearly exports to Muslim countries are about 10 billion crowns ($1.81 billion), or roughly 2 percent of all exports. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wow, such violence over free speech... Lord Umbarger Posted October 11, 2006 #61 Share Posted October 11, 2006 Before we get too much into the "USA is a Warmonger Nation" BS again, let's just do a little remembering here. Most of the wars on the planet at this time and since the end of WWII have involved at least one islamic nation. Nearly a third of those were against other muslim nations. Now for the thinking part, those unable to follow along, feel free to read it again, at your own slower pace... What kind of kook would one have to be to go out and riot over a cartoon? Do we do this kind of thing in the west when some islamo-nut nation vomits some kind of anti-christian or anti-jewish trash? Just think, if the west followed the islamic example, we would be going to war every day!
