A report was released an hour or so ago saying that scientists In South Korea picked up a 3.9 magintitude on the richtar scale and believe that they tested a nuke. What does this mean? Does this mean war with North Korea? A Draft? WWIII? Total annihlation of Planet Earth? Please give me your thoughts.

Its a dark day.

N. Korea tests nuclear weapon

North Korea has tested a nuclear weapon, its official news agency reported on Monday.

The Korean Central News Agency reported that the test was successful and no radiation had leaked from the site.

News of the test followed a demand from China and Japan on Sunday that the communist country not go ahead.

North Korea said Tuesday that it would test an atomic weapon because of "the U.S. extreme threat of a nuclear war."

Following that statement, the UN, U.S. and other countries all asked that it not proceed.

More to come

I seriously doubt they'll be war, a draft or even ww3 here. It will mean though that they have working nukes and well that's damn scary.

I believe it will cause a war. Remember North Korea testing those missles? They could easily hit Japan and South Korea, and I don't see Japan and South Korea sitting around doing nothing while NK does this. I just don't. I believe it will drag us into the fray and I believe we will win, but alot of people will die.

So North Korea has officially violated the UN ban on underground nuclear detonation and testing. That comes as no surprise to me, however, it does raise some interesting questions, such as what are the UN or US going to do about it. Doing nothing in my humble opinion will open the door to more third world countries wanting their own new and shiny thermal nuclear warhead on a nice new delivery system. As if the International Community needed more nukes to worry about.

Who cares. If they try and use it, they'll either radiate themselves, or as Clinton said to Larry King about Iran, "the day they use it will be the best day they ever had." :)

This drastically destabilizes the entire Pacific.

To put a nuke in the cone of a missile is much much harder then just slapping it in and firing it off. You need insane amount of research, time, money and manpower to design a special cone so the nuke will fit and will blow up as wanted.

All they can fire really now is short range missiles because their prized long range missile failed horribly.

Kratos, the reason it will cause a war like I said is that Japan and SK will attack before NK ever gets the chance to put it on a cone.

I need proof of that Thanto, can You give me proof? Anyway, I don't believe North Korea would attack a country with conventinal weapons, they would like to use 1 big blow to minimize response.

Speaking of conventional arms... that reminded me of how SK fired 15 warning shots at a small section of NK troops crossing into the DMZ the other day...

Who the hell fires 15 *warning* shots? Wtf?

It was more like 40 shots and I don't know why. Probably put the fear into those NK soldiers though crossing over.

How do you know that though? How do we know that? Do you honestly think if Kim Jong Il already had the capability to do this he would be telling the worlds governments? It's not exactly like NK is an open book.

Its up to 40 now? Last night I heard 15.

What kind of fear is it supposed to put into NK soldiers? Rather, the sheer quanitity of those "warning shots" shows that the SK response is no more than a bluff, they're too scared to do anything serious, thus NK will just keep poking and proding them, further and furhter, because SK doesnt want to back up the border.

While I'm not a religious man somehow I got the sense the end is near.

By the way if America doesn't react most likely Iran will follow suit very soon

I've had this SAME feeling ever since 9/11 and moreso when we stupidly went into Iraq. *sigh*

It's all a mess spiraling out of control...

I am POSITIVE the Prez of Iran will get his wish of Armageddon yet...

North Korea doesn't have that amount of technology as you see they finally just tested their first ever nuclear bomb tonight. It's going to take much more then that to make a cone small enough and light enough to put onto a missile.

Yeah, I saw it earlier. I think it was MSNBC that said so.

Well they were probably just saying "hello, we're still here ya know!" to those 5 soldiers.

SK might not have a choice in this if NK keeps the BS up. :hmm:

North Korea is now a nuclear power. Not a good thing - not at all.

Of course N.K. says that it want to hold bilatteral talks with the USA. And leave out South Korea and sell the South down the river. Which will be watched by all of the USAs allies. To see if the USA is still a reliable ally.

The real nuclear reaction will happen not in the North, but around the area. Japan, South Korea and even Taiwan now have to look at joining the nuke club. More of a guessament, but I think there will be a 75% chance Japan will go nuclear themself. A 60% chance of South Korea joining the club. And Taiwan, if they do not already have nukes, are almost certain to build their own weapons. And China has to worry that they will no longer have the only nuclear weapons in the eastern Pacific Rim area over the next year or two.

The nation looking at this situation the closest is Iran. If North Korea does get away with this, it will be concidered a green light to Iran that they can go ahead on finishing its nuclear weapon program. Without fear of international reaction. Which could lead to a serious miscalculation by Tehran.

I think the folks in the region have enough to lose that they will push the point and make things happen; we are too tied up with a pointless war in the ME to be able to take care of real threats...

Hopefully China will finally get off of their thumbs and slap NK around a bit.

I don't think the five NPT- excluded countries (USA, Russia, France, UK and China) have any right to say anything what other countries should or should not do until they start dismantling their nukes themselves.

"Only WE may have guns."
