Dear Santa.. I have been a very good girl this year. I would like Data and Legolas this year.

If you can't swing that.. I'll settle for a new computer. (evil cackle)

Since we're debating this topic, I would also like threads to be opened for the following topics:

Why is equal rights for blacks wrong?

Why is voting rights for women wrong?

Cause I'm not really seeing much of a difference in those topics and this one.

Seriously, this is a hopeless topic. People who are against it are either too cemented in their religious beliefs or too soaked in ideas that are completely wrong. If you don't know, you probably shouldn't say things like, "It hurts, so it's wrong." or "It's a choice."

(snip)

There are a lot of positive people on this forum and I'm happy to see that. I, personally, think it's time for this thread to die because it's getting nowhere and it's going around and around in circles with nobody getting anywhere and people are posting ridiculous nonsense such as "Gay men have sex in the hopes of creating babies from feces."

I agree completely. The topic invites people to post ignorant, inflammatory bigotry. Imagine a topic that asked, "what's wrong with black people-- please elaborate." It wouldn't last a second. This is no better.

Exactly as with racism, every single justification put forward for condemning homosexual behavior is erroneous. Every single one, without exception. Yes, that includes "because the Bible says so." People who use this as an excuse for homophobia do not know what's in the Bible. Let's also recall that the Bible was used not so long ago as justification for racism and even slavery. How is this any different? Why should this thread be tolerated? It's a bunch of prejudiced garbage.

Same goes for every other rationalization in this thread. It's so screwed up, it doesn't even rise to a level suitable for ridicule. It is extremely clear to me that the persons using these arguments don't give the slightest damn about the subject, or else they'd know better. It's appalling that any literate person thinks it's OK to get on a soapbox and spout this bigotry.

And those of you who are not bigots-- where is your anger? Where is your disgust at this spectacle? We see plenty of anger and disgust from the other side. Where is yours?

Why is this soapbox for bigots even here?

Because if I get angry.. I get vulger... and violent... (total Irish here)

Besides.. it's fun to be all calm and snarky towards people who do get all p***y and upset and soapboxish. Makes them even more p***ed off. Great fun. Blows their points out the window!

And Broo.. please reread the thread.. I think you'll see those of us who do support homosexuality defend it quite well.

I guess me mentioning I'm part Irish would come to no suprise if vulgarity is their trait. German-Irish, stubborn and I've got a temper.

Why exactly has this thread not been locked yet?

I quit reading the thread because I thought all that could be said had been said. All the disgust and anger I can throw out will not change a heart of stone, but it will eat me up. I think the thread has run its course.

I understand. And I do see some anger. Just not quite the near-unanimous outrage I think the subject deserves. Some, including you, have really done a good job stuffing it back in their faces. But I notice that it doesn't sway or deter any prejudice in the slightest. So I think the only way to deal with these bozos is to make it clear that bigotry isn't welcome here. That's what we'd do if there was a big thread about what's wrong with black folks, or women, or Jews, etc. etc. We shouldn't waste time "discussing" junk like that. It doesn't merit discussion.

I don't mean it's wrong to argue with them. I think it's good, and you did a good job. I just think it's outrageous that the question is even offered as a serious topic. It floors me. I seriously start to wonder what century this is.

I forgot to state that gays in Hell are described by Dante as having the cheerfulness and lighthearted excitement of being violent against their own nature!

It took a long long time for women to get equal rights. It took a long long time for Blacks and other ethnic groups to get their rights. Hells even today Native Americans still have issues with rights and the government. (believe it or not but not every reservation has casinos and riches from it ;P) And their the bloody rightful peoples of this land!

It'll take just as long for homosexuals to finally get equal rights. Remember, it was once illegal for a black and a white person to get married. Eventually it'll be alright for same sex marriage.

Screaming and yelling at those who wish not to drop their prejudices will do no good. It just makes them even more belligerent and more reluctant to change. Besides, it's sinking to their level... which in the end does more harm then good.

Given that there are so many people objecting to this thread's continued existence, and also that nothing new is really being brought to the table, I think we can safely end this discussion before it gets out of hand.
