haunted cabin

In 1973 I had joined the P&O ship ss Orsova as a bedroom steward and was to share a cabin with 8 others. When I went to the cabin for the first time I only found one crew person there, the rest had been sacked. Later there were replacements for the sacked crew, they all seemed OK but after a few weeks sharing the cabin I noticed some odd behaviour by some. One of them accused me of getting the coackroaches after him? It resulted in me having a scrap with him in which I was the victor, but there were problems with other members of the cabin, one of them threatened to put pins through my eyelids whilst I was asleep. During the time I had in the cabin things seemed to have got worse, their behaviour seemed abnormal after a while and indisciplined. One day I was dosing off to sleep in my bunk and two members were getting ready to go on shift and were chatting whilst doing so, during which time I fell asleep, I had a strange dream of a dwarf brown cloaked individual that had just walked up the gangway, I started to talk to this individual who seemed completely ignorant of me, but I carried on talking mentioning the ships I'd been on and names of people I had known during that time. The dwarf like creature pulled out a silver salvo and started through objects into the salvo and puffs of coloured smoke started to appear, all the time this dream was going on I appeared to have 2 minds, one looking down on myself, the other the speaker. It all culminated by me running away from whatever the dwarf was up to in fear, getting into a lift and jumping off the side of the ship but waking before I hit the water. I awoke in a sweat but expecting to see the two who had been chatting as if the chatting of myself in the dream had something to do with their conversation as I was now in possesion of some quite personal information of the ships and the persons of possibly one of the two from the dream. When I confronted the two who were talking in the cabin in the evening, I told them of my dream and the information i had received about one of them, they retorted that they had discussed the ships they had been on and of whom they'd known whilst on duty and not in the cabin, the other end of the ship?

I later mentioned of the dream to other members of the cabin who had also had a similar dream that resulted in them running to a lift getting out of the lift and diving over the side of the ship?

Later during the cruising a member of the cabin had to be sedated because he was having hallucinations in the cabin like blood running down the bulkheads and a band playing on the ceiling, he was taken to sick bay and apart from a brief period back at work he never worked again.

We all started to talk about our experiences in the cabin after that and about our trouble sleeping, we thought there was something wrong about the cabin as we were all having nightmares by now, all except one person, it was Armstrong, a quiet unassuming man who never talked much and seemed quite oblivious of what was going on.

At the end of the cruising I immediately asked to be transferred to another cabin and was refused by the Petty Officer as all the members of the cabin had asked for transfers all except Armstrong, the Petty Officer enquired as to what was going on in the cabin, I told him there was something evil about the cabin, he promised to transfer me after the next cruise. I just couldn't wait and wandered around crew accommodation for a spare bunk in another cabin and found one. from that day on I had uninterrupted sleep. I did just one more week cruise and signed off the ship. A week later I read a small article in the Telegraph that there had been a murder on the SS Orsova, it was Armstrong, he'd been stabbed in the chest, the captain had turned the ship to the nearest port to try to get better medical help but he died on the way. A few months later the ship was sent to scrap.

is taht true? or a story?

That story is absolutely true, about 2 years ago I tried to find the details of the murder of Armstrong and phoned the Archive department of P&O, I dont know how old the person was who was the head of archives but he told me he remembered the case but wouldnt divulge the details, he advised me to contact, I think special branch in Scotland who took the murder case on, but I didn't contact them.

Its one of those experience's some of us have that effects the way we look at things in our lives, since the experience in the cabin I had become interested in supernatural things although a lot I'm sceptical. My story shows a degree of 'astral projection' that I've had more experiences of since

god I dont no where to start! thanks for sharing that !

anyway i get the impression that based on date this was in assignment was related to the Viet Nam conflict? and if so, with all the RESPECT due to you as an allied Vet I have to bring up the issue of the really potent LSD saturation of that time, not nessesarily by you but perhaps your (already overstressed )shipmates? also this is the second time in two days or so that this description of a "dwarf like " cloaked entities has surfaced ,and by "cloaked" We ARE refering to wardrobe accessory and not "cloaked"in a star trek Klingon warship sense Arent we??? (just a general clarification) actually the description is more like the Jawas from star WARS.........B

Klingon female:"He is not very attractive but I will have him."

Riker: "Is She serious?"

klingon officer: "Yes!"

Hmm, I never watch Star Trek. odd that you mention Vietnam, shortly before this event happened the SS Orsova was docked at Tenerife, close by was a US naval ship. In the Foyer of the dock terminal was a cafeteria where a fight broke out between a US naval crew member and a bellboy on the SS Orsova, the naval crewman purposefully bumped into the black bellboy of our ship, not knowing that the bellboy was quite useful and started to give the US crewman a hiding, before long all hell broke loose and there was fighting going on with crew members of both ships, the police were eventually called in and tried to board the SS Orsova but the deck crew used hydrants aimed at the police. A fine was imposed on P&O and the damage caused and the ship was banned for a year from the dock.

In the dream it seemed like the port was Tenerife and the dwarf like creature dressed in a brown robe had walked up the gangway to enter the ship, I was on gangway duties.

We had docked at another port and were next to another US naval ship, we invited some of the crew for a drink and they seemed out of their heads, they mentioned a lot about drugs on board and that sniffer dogs used to be used to find the drugs, one crewman said, "Man, when them there dogs get a sniff of them drugs they kinda go Hoooowwwwl", we looked at each other wondering whether it was wise to bring these guys aboard and how the hell they could ever win a war?

by cloaked as a Star Trek reference I was refering to the artificially generated concealment field intended to hide the ship,I was wondering if this thing was wearing a cloak or trying to hide itself? too bad that have all these bad memories associated with your service,as somewhat a novice history buff I have a real respect for the Royal Navy, so try to focus on the AWSOME vessels you got to serve aboard! :tu: ..................... Scotland? was probably 'Scotland Yard', which is the main agency for serious crimes in Britian, not actually based in scotland (I don't think)

Anyway, interesting story all the same, sounds like the cabin was somehow infected with negitivity, be it from crew members or something spiritual or resdiual.. Boats/ships are notorious for hauntings!

Here is some info and pics of the SS Orsova:

Great story, by the way. Thanks for sharing! Clarify something for me, if you will: was the Orsova a military ship, merchant marine ship, or a cruise ship?

It was definately a Police agency that resided in Scotland and not Scotland yard, I think it was Special Branch, its that agency that specialises in British maritime crime. As far as I know, Armstrong was stabbed in the chest by a laundry steward. There were only 2 laundry stewards on board the passenger liner Orsova, they were two mature men who in fact knew my father who sailed on the Orsova in 1954 with a skeleton crew before her maiden voyage. I asked about whether they knew my father and they acknowledged that they did but I got the feeling they didn't like him or my fathers brother who was also on the ship in 54.

My first ship was the SS Oriana, it caught fire and had to be rescued off the 'needles' after sailing for a mere half and hour from Southampton in 1970.

I was a bellboy on that ship in charge of lecture rooms etc, I used to have the odd tipple of 'alter wine'.

One of the lecturers was a white witch who had a large collection of ancient books, one was a witch's book that was so big it was always on a pedestal during her lectures. I would often see her sort of meditating in the evening around the ship at night. I took one of her books and never returned it back to her, which was very naughty of me, maybe I'd put a hex on myself?

I do just find ship stories ingenral interesting - the reason they are more haunted than any other type of building/structure is becauseof the materials they are made from and the fact they sit on water - the most conductive materials for residual energy and energy for spirits to use :D

I was on the Orsova liner in November 1973 with my parents and ex.  I needed my ear syringed and went to see the ship's doctor, I opened the wrong door and saw bath with lots of blood in the water.

I later learned that the ship's flag was lowered as there had been a fight in the galley and one of the crew had been killed. The body was taken off at Madeira.
