Breakthrough In Cancer Cure Research

There has been a major breakthrough in the fight against cancer, according to Purdue University researchers, who said that they have cured 200 lab mice. Researchers said they have created a wonder drug concoction of ingredients that patients already take. In fact, according to the team of scientists, the drug has the potential to cure one-third of all human cancers.

The promising trial results on mice are based on folate, or folic acid, a water-soluble B vitamin, occurring naturally in food, that is necessary to produce and maintain new cells. Cancer thrives on folate, which acts as food that helps cancer cells grow. However, according to Endocyte Inc., the company that funded the research, using folic acid as a Trojan horse can trick the immune system into attacking cancer cells. To do that, doctors give patients injections of folate and fluorescein, a harmless yellow dye that the body recognizes as a foreign invader. The folate-fluorescein combination binds to the surface of the tumor cell. Then the immune system recognizes fluorescein as a foreign invader and sends antibodies to attack it. Infection-fighting blood cells act as a kill and cleanup crew, attacking the fluorescein, killing the cancer cell, and then eating it up.

If the Food and Drug Administration allows the animal study results to proceed to human clinical trials, medical science may have found a discovery for which cancer researchers and patients have long been waiting.

Blimmin' great news. Can't wait for a marketable drug to hit the pharmacies around the world. Should be a great relief to a lot of people.

On the other side, isn't the human body a frightening thing.... one part eats another part of the same body.... ick.

As long as it works though... :se[/blue]
