Rockstar rep says 'complete experience' only on 360 - plus new screens and details

It's no secret that the long-ago announced downloadable episodes for Grand Theft Auto IV will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 version of the game. According to Rockstar Games spokesman Hosi Simon, however, there won't be any consolation prizes for those who choose to buy the PlayStation 3 edition instead. When asked during a preview of the game (which you can read about here, if you haven't already) whether there would be any advantage to owning the PS3 version that could rival the 360's exclusives, Simon said, "not that I can think of."

"They're identical games," Simon continued. "We're not hardware makers, and we're not like a pawn between these companies, we try not to be as much as we can. We make great games for people to enjoy on whichever system they want.

"But I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose," Simon said.

Downloadable episodes or no, the game looks set to be an incredible experience on both platforms, and we've got a new batch of GTA IV screens and art to prove it (just hit the Images tab above to see them all). To find out much more about what you can expect from this sprawling underworld epic, check out the meaty details revealed by our latest preview.

that bold line should be

"We like when one of the big 3 hardware manufacturers gives us money so if you want to play the full game get the 360 version."

Take-Two is reducing its fiscal 2007 guidance primarily to reflect the movement of the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007 to fiscal 2008, due to additional development time required to complete the title. The title is now planned for release in the Company’s second quarter of fiscal 2008.

WOW

I remember one game journalist being skeptical about the GTA 4 release because of frame rates and graphics issues in the build he saw and he was ridiculed by readers. I guess he is laughing last now.

people are also saying something about the core being discontinued also has something to do with the delay!

I guess the real reason why the delay is out

Xbox 360 problems delay GTA IV. Microsoft bans Playstation 3 release.

Problems with development of GTA IV on the Xbox 360 has meant the game has been delayed until April 2008.

GTA IV was due for release on 17th October. Rockstar have been using the Playstation 3 as the lead platform. An Xbox 360 team have been working besides the core team adapting code. Whilst the PS3 Blu-ray disc will easily accommodate the game, there have been problems fitting the game on to a single 360 DVD disc. Microsoft will not allow the game to be released on 2 disc as they are concerned the 360 will be compared unfavourably to the PS3. The situation has led to tension between Dan Houser and the Microsoft Empire as there is currently no way the game can fit on a single dvd.

Microsoft are currently working on a new compression technology for DVD9 discs, however this wont be available until next year. In a politically worded statement Sam Houser said "The game is huge and is pushing the hardware platforms to their absolute limits. The top engineers from Sony and Microsoft are working closely with the team in Edinburgh right now, helping us to fully leverage the power of both platforms."

Whilst the PlayStation 3 version is all set for completion at the end of this month, Microsoft have tied Take Two into an iron-clad legal agreement that forbids them from releasing the game on any format unless the Xbox 360 is ready. This has meant that whilst the PS3 version will be ready for October, Microsoft have directly prevented its release. That's what happens when the Houser brothers sell their a*** for the Microsoft dollar. Stupid limey gimp-bags.

Somewhere else I heard that PS3 being hard to develop for was the cause. I know they had issues with not every 360 having a hard drive earlier. Also, if PS3 is the lead platform, why have the screens plus videos been running on the 360?

Yeah I heard that one too. In fact some games that came out on the 360 that were supposed to come out on the ps3 all of a sudden disappeared.

Damn Bill Gates, he's rich enough already. Who is he trying to beat?

I think the consensus is that it is problems wit the PS3 that delayed the game.

i heard that they are afraid of competition with Halo 3. id rather buy GTA IV anyway

or Huxley

That'd be stupid. If they were afraid they wouldn't push it back as much as 6 months, just 2 or 3.

At the same time though, a lot of games scheduled to be released at the same time as halo3 have been put back 6 months for the 360 like Unreal tournement 3 and Haze

The graphics are better then the last GTA but it does not look that impressive looks like a game that could came out on the PC 3 years ago. As for gameplay we will have to wait and see.

Can't believe they have not said anything about a PC release, that really sucks GTA was a PC game before it came on the consoles.
