Pass a black cat from 4:00a.m. to 7:00a.m., you will die before the day it out

And the list goes on...people give cats a really bad name by doing this, thankfully, these aren't believable.

Yeah, If they were true I'd be dead now. I own a black cat and I'm still alive.

So..somehow cats are putting their whole mouth over a babies mouth and suffocating them by sucking all the air out... Ok then! lol

Being a rommmate of a cat who allows me to live in her home, I have seen her do much stranger things.... (Like taking her life into her own hands to wake me up at 3am just to let me know she needed more food because she was pigging out all night...).

Crazy old folklore. Most cat want nothing to do with babies, I know this from experience. When I had my daughter I was in the hospital for more then a week (really horrible complications) and my fiance stayed with me the whole time. When we got home we found that our cat had p***ed in our bed, not nice. When we brought Rowan home about a week later he avoided her at all cost and she was a happy quite baby!

I had a cat that decided to follow my son and I home when he was about 4 months old, after that it was HIS cat, if it wasnt curled up at his feet, it was sitting in the crib letting my son pull his tail. If my son fussed in the middle of the night the cat would nuzzle his face to try and comfort him. If some one the cat didnt know or like tried to pick the baby up, he'd shred them. He was the puuuuuuurfect baby watcher lol If the baby crawled in to an area the cat didnt think was safe, he yeowled his head off till I came and got the baby. Awsome cat.

My mother in law came to visit and had a fit, she tried to kick the cat out of the house (he clawed her to shreds, good kitty). This went on every time she visited, she insisted the cat would kill the baby. In the end, my son and I had to make an emergency trip out of town, and my mother in law decided to visit her baby boy while I was gone. He swears his mother didnt mean to leave the door open, and that the cat just darted out and refused to come to either of them. I never saw the cat again despite spending weeks looking for him, Im not sure Ive ever forgiven her for letting the cat out.

There is some truth here. When a cat curls up with an infant it can accidently cover the baby's mouth and nostrils with its fur, causing the child to suffocate.

When this happens to an adult we quickly awaken and push Miss Prettypaws away from our face.

I've also heard the ones about it being *dangerous* to have a cat while your pregnant (my parents believed this one and got rid of beautiful black green eyed cat because my mum was pregnant with my younger sister) and that if you swallow cats hair as a child it will make you walk with a limp or something. Really stupid. <img src="style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I'm sorry that they had to get rid of a cat over a pregnancy, but it is much better to be safe than sorry. But you must understand that if the pregnant mother is anywhere near a litter box while it's being cleaned she could be putting the pregnancy in jeopardy. This is no old wives tale or an urban legend, the bacteria in the cat's urine and feces can make a pregnant woman sick and cause her to miscarry. Getting rid of the cat probably was not the answer but isolating the litter box would have solved the problem, assuming the cat agreed with the litter box placement lol.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->i haven't heard cats board the Noah's Ark<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->As I recall, neither cats nor chickens are mentioned anywhere in the bible. Kind of curious since they are both such common animals. I can kind of understand cats thought, because of the Egyptians but, chickens? Who don't like chickens?

I'm not bursting your bubble, but it seems that Noah's Ark was more of a DNA bank then it was carrying a pair or more of every single animal on the planet. If you check the measurements that are listed in the Bible and then add the weight of every animal you will find that the boat would not be able to support them. An added note, how was Noah able to catch the Eagles the Falcons and all of the birds that lived in that time... Not to mention all the poisonous snakes the ravaging lions, cheetahs, leopards, Panthers and all other predators that would have rather head Noah for lunch then calmly had gone with him. I know your answer before you're going to say it, as I am a man of faith as well... You're going to tell me that guy had calmed the animals and lead them to the Ark. I just don't understand who was going to be the one to clean up all of the stalls lol. II honestly think that it was not the entire world that was flooded but just an area around the Mediterranean, there is more and more scientific evidence of this fact, just because you can only see water as far as the eye can see does not mean the entire earth flooded. But there is also a chance its true because at that time it was also the breakdown of the sick water vapor shield that covered the earth. This allowed for the extremely long lifespans that you read about in the Bible before the flood, because the water vapor shield prevented many ultraviolet rays from getting through and to the surface of the earth. It also gives proof that the first the rainbow came after the flood because clear sunlight could finally get through and make a rainbow through the water in the air. I could ramble on and on about this but I won't because it will stir up much controversy and debate. My honest answer as to what I believe happened with Noah's Ark, we had help from people from another world who were able to collect the DNA, place it on Noah's Ark and then protect it n create the animals after the flood. And if anybody in this forum does not believe that there is life outside of our planet after looking at the sky atmillions and billions of stars, kind of makes you look a little arrogant, speaking to those who are not believers of life on other planets.

let us not forget how much food would have had to have been brought aboard the Ark to feed all of the carnivores, how was this meat preserved? Now in the Bible it says bring in 7 of the clean animals and a pair of the unclean. One last thing, what a horrible case of incest for Noah and his family to repopulate the entire Earth. This is why I think that the entire Earth was not flooded. Ancient archaeologist have found that the flood eradicated the type of man that was not pure nor looked like us. They have found skulls of humans with teeth that look more like saber teeth and a much smaller brain cavity then the normal humans of that time. I don't think it was the evil that caused the flood but more along the lines of getting rid of the part of the human race that would have contaminated are gene pool for years to come. Food for thought.

How hard is it to believe that a heavy cat laying on an infant's chest could cause and fore Of SIDS Especially if the child already has an allergic reaction to cats. The cat climbs up and lays on the baby to protect it, inadvertently causes an asthma attack and then the weight of the cat on the baby's chest further restricts breathing causing the infant to suffocate. So yes it is definitely plausible for it to seem as if the cat stole the baby's breath. Game, set, match.

When I first read the topic I thought that maybe cats were out stealing plants which would seem reasonable enough, but literally killing a baby by suffocation? Hillarity ensues! My cats are up in my baby's face all the time and he's still kicking! Funny story nontheless.

One of our old cats used to climb up on my chest while sleeping, or when I was awake, and lay there with his head just a few centimeters from my head. A few times when I had a cold and a runny nose, and while he lay there, I felt it very much that the oxygen wasn't enough for the both of us, so to speak. It became very hard to breath - and no, it was not because of the weight of the cat on my chest - and it came to the point that I became dizzy before moving him away. He was breathing fast, and exhaling right at my mouth, and I definitely felt the lack of oxygen.

I dont think it might have killed me if I was asleep, but it was enough to feel uncomfortable when I was awake. If a baby has a similar cold, and a grown cat would do it to them, who knows. It might not be enough to kill them, but I wouldn't leave the cat on my childs chest like that if I saw it.

I hate cats

My initials, too? If so, I won't take it personally.

All of my pets/livestock are working animals. They earn their keep

by doing what comes naturally and/or what they are bred to do best.

A sense of belonging lends to animals' well being. So, being well

cared for in a country setting, they seem only happy to do their part.

The same applies to the cats that I have had in the past (past tense,

since the tom that my dog helped me to train to walk wide around and

never go near my bird feeders vanished--presumably, died). Thus, my

cats tend to stay outdoors where they can keep rodents from getting

into the house and snakes at bay. There, they neither create noticeable

odors nor shred anything of value and I don't care about their shedding.

What's more pertinent to this thread is the fact that cats that are kept

outdoors aren't likely to pose any risk to sleeping babies.
