Tussaud Posted October 5, 2006 #176 Share Posted October 5, 2006 You mentioned earlier in the post that there are no wild boars in the townsend area going towards Sams and walmart which is the reason why I provided a photo to dispel that belief. My original statement: Townsend Bld is a long ways away from where the cemitary is. A good 1.25 miles away, if you get to it from 1960. There are alot of woods along townsend, and the area going twords walmart and sams borders Jesse Jones State Park (which is an excellent place to go running btw). That area has alot of deer and I would presume other wild life as well, includeing hogs and possibly coyote. we are both in agreement i guess. all i was trying to do was dispell that we needed to worry about hogs on the investigation, as that was what was incenuated that would be a concern. The geographical location of the investigation isnt likely to have that sort of wild life. But, not for the first time, i was misunderstood in my intentions. lol. i dont spend alot of time on forums, even though I own three high population forums. Eh, no matter. I just didnt want anyone going there expecting to run into a hog when the chances of them finding a chest of gold are more likely considering the lay of the land. Tussaud Posted October 5, 2006 #178 Share Posted October 5, 2006 Well dangit, I guess we'll just all have to settle for peanut butter and jelly. There are rabbits and squirls there , would take a few more to = the amount of a hog, but you could make a meal
boorite Posted October 5, 2006 #179 Share Posted October 5, 2006 At the lakehouse, we have cougars, so we learned quickly that red eyes meant deer or hog.... but green eyes are sometimes cougars. To get from one lakehouse to the other requires a quarter mile hike in the dark towards the neighbors. There is not light source for nearly 60 miles in the Brazos Valley area. When green eyes are seen, they said run. Many occassions, I have been stalked by the cougars.... I don't think it's a good idea to run. It's likely to trigger a chase response, and you cannot outrun a cougar. You might think about a hiking staff made of oak, hickory, or (like mine) maple. Even opening an umbrella has been known to deter cougars. Bear repellent carried in your hand-- not your belt-- might help.
organgrinder Posted October 5, 2006 #180 Share Posted October 5, 2006 That boar in the picture is huge! They have a lot of them in places you would never expect. Ha. They have a ton of them around Conroe. My fiance's family took in a stray great dane/hound of some sort mix and somehow she would kill them in the woods and drag them into their yard. So his yard always had gross pig heads and things all over it. I don't think they would be that dangerous in the area of the 1960 overpass though. Even if there are some around they have probably learned that interacting with people is a potentially fatal idea and would go somewhere else. If the homeless people who live out there haven't been gored yet it's probably safe enough. Ha. Christina

I heard alot of problems with them in your area. I am not worried about hog in the Overpass area for the Investigation. I was just mentioning to another member about the woods located in Townsend where they do frequent in packs. I do believe that people were seeing racoons or deers in the cemetary when they mentioned about red glowing eyes. Let us know what you think. I was even more shocked that bodies from this cemetary were dugged up and scattered into the forest. I am just learning that people want to invesitgate this and I am joining them to learn more about this issue. I will be honest as I am a skeptic. I have never in my life experienced any hauntings or simliar events. I have always tried to find ways to explain a possible haunting. An example would be sightings of red glowing eyes, which I explained it to be an animal such as a deer, hog, or raccoon. I am keepng an open mind as I hear interesting stories from people who experienced hauntings. Let me know what you think.

From the reasearch I did, probley close to a year ago now (this thread is OLD. lol), the latest grave there was that of a WWII air corps person. Cant recall if he was a pilot or not, or rank, ect. The site is an afro-american cemetary, and dates back well into the 1800s. At one time I had found lan owners and all that for the area, and also alot of info on the graves there themselves, includeing descrptions of the area. If you look further back in the thread, you can probley find this information that I posted previously in my research. You might want to take a look at it, as it will help you know what to look for. I am still uncertain as to my participatoin, ive been wanting to get out there for along time, just never the chance to, and right now, things are pretty hectic, so I dont know if I will be able to or not yet. I will endevor to try though.
kiddglock Posted October 6, 2006 #187 Share Posted October 6, 2006 Mr Tussuad, I am also a hunter and have experienced many wild boar hog encounters. Some were pleasant and some were not. I can tell you that boar/hog encounters can go both ways depite the circumstances. Check this site out and tell me if boars/hogs do not charge. http://media.putfile.com/charging-boar You are correct about the types of hogs frequenting the area but boars have been seen as well. There are two types of swines lingering around the area of question. You got the feral hog which is a hybrid domestic and wild hog and the european/russian boars which is straight black. Check this site www.texasboars.com as many of the trappers have frequented the area in townsend. Here is a picture of my wild boar which I shot in New Caney which is about several miles north of Humble. . I was told that this boar looks scary but imagine it alive and sprinting towards you. Nice pig. I live up in Kansas and we've begun to have problems with wild hogs too. Even the feral kind can be dangerous. Sows with pigs or boars. I do want to know why are the relatives of these people buried in the site allowing the remains to be tossed into the forest. If I had a relative buried in a location, I would make it a habit to check on it on a regular basis. I would find it weird that nobody has claimed the remains of their loved ones. It could be that they either dont know, or dont care. The cemetary, from some sources is a slave cemetary, that people from later generatoins were intered there as well. Personall,y I am more intersted in the historical aspect of the site, rather than the paranormal. Being an athiest, I am inherantly sceptical, ecept for events that i have experianced myself, and have no other explaination for. I have an open mind about the site, but even if there is paranormal activity, the history of the site facinates me more than the accual haunting itself. AstroFan Posted October 6, 2006 #191 Share Posted October 6, 2006 I drove around the area today, didnt go in the woods or anything though. Went around behind Best Buy(and saw the worlds biggest damn rat, was like a mutant, after watching it for a bit it took off back across the tracks). Checked out the area where the church was, which as people said is now a storage building, but a sign outside did still say "church parking". I snapped some shots on my phone, but they really arent much, I want to go back with my digital camera.

Princess Serenity Posted October 6, 2006 #196 Share Posted October 6, 2006 I went though the whole thread. Pretty interesting stuff, wish everything like that happened near me. -_-;; I would like the true history of the church. Some advice for you guys who are checking it out. Bring extra batteries, extra flashlights, cameras, something to defend yourselves, & the stuff you really need. OH! Walkie-talkies if you ever decided to split up. Also please be careful. That's all. organgrinder Posted October 7, 2006 #197 Share Posted October 7, 2006 Tonecop, Yeah. They are bold. For years I really didn't think they were as bold as they were. Luckily I have never seen one alive up close. I've only seen the ones that my fiance's dog would kill. Very creepy! When his younger brother was playing paintball once he was chased by a pig though. Apparently he crawled into one of their runs because he curious what kind of animal made it. Well, curiousity killed the cat and now he knows a pig run when he sees one. I don't know if I could handle hunting them. That noise that wounded pigs make gets under my skin. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. Ha. That's a smart idea about the glowing eyes being raccoons and things. Those little glowing eyes in the road are the only way I avoid running down opossums Anvil, I think I remember reading somewhere that pigs are one of the most prolific animals in the world. Wild pigs have pretty much invaded every part of the world. They're really smart and will find a way out of their enclosures and breed with the local boar population if there is one. Those are really good pictures! It's great that someone got some. Christina

kiddglock Posted October 7, 2006 #199 Share Posted October 7, 2006 (edited) I didn't realise that pigs roamed in the wild They're becoming more and more common anywhere the habitat to support them exists. The pig Tonecop killed is a Russian Boar. These are wild pigs that are very dangerous. They were stocked by local landowners and others who wanted to hunt them. Additionally, pigs go feral (wild) very easily. Hogs raised for meat escape from their pens or are turned out, again to hunt, on purpose. They quickly adapt to the wild life and over just a few generations can turn into the "razorbacks" that you see pics of sometimes or the mascot of Arkansas State Univ. Lastly, Texas has native pigs called "peccaries" or "javalinas". They are smaller but run in packs and can be dangerous also. In fact, they are probably as dangerous as a bobcat, whereas I would rank the Russian Boar up there with a Black Bear as to danger. The feral hogs would lie somewhere in between. I didn't see any reference to any of these in the posts. They are generally located in more desert areas. I have no idea if they have expanded their range to the Houston area or not. I've been around hogs quite a bit. They are surprisingly quick and agile. As mentioned earlier, they are very intelligent. Very adaptable. Watch out around ANY hogs, wild or otherwise. The boars and sows with pigs are especially dangerous. Edited October 7, 2006 by kiddglock
