glorybebe Posted June 26, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2007 This could have gone in several places, if not the best area for this, sorry. Germany Bans Cruise Movie Germany has banned filming of Tom Cruise's new movie at its military bases because they object to the actor's Scientology religion. Scientology is not recognized as a church by the German government, who claim the controversial religion is a "money-making cult." Cruise is set to begin filming Valkyrie in Germany this summer, in which he plays Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, leader of an unsuccessful plot to kill Adolf Hitler during World War II. Harald Kammerbauer, spokesman for the country's Defense Ministry, says, "(Producers) will not be allowed to film at German military sites if Count Stauffenberg is played by Tom Cruise, who has publicly professed to being a member of the Scientology cult. In general, the Bundeswehr (German military) has a special interest in the serious and authentic portrayal of the events of July 20, 1944 and Stauffenberg's person." IMDB Oh, boy!! I wonder how the backlash is going to affect Germany. But, good for them to take a stand against something that they don't believe in rather than bowing down. Princess Serenity Posted June 26, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 26, 2007 Good for Germany. I don't blame them too. I don't really see "scientology" as an religion.
glorybebe Posted June 26, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted June 26, 2007 Good for Germany. I don't blame them too. I don't really see "scientology" as an religion. I agree. Why shouldn't they have the right to follow their own laws and beliefs? I have lost so much repect for Tom Cruise that I refuse to watch any movie that he is associated with. Maybe this will teach him a lesson that he's not all that.
Spurious George Posted June 26, 2007 #5 Share Posted June 26, 2007 Whaddaya mean? Arent all religions based on works of fiction, looking to hoodwink new converts out of cash and have a general attitude of desiring control over people? I think Scientology is exactly what religion is, maybe not what religion claims to be but what it is. C'mon now, space alien, god men, angels, unicorns... I see no difference. I have found most people dont like Scientology because it subconsciously exposes a side of their own beliefs that they werent willing to look at critically before. But that said Germany can do whatever they want... ban Tom Cruise from filming there due to his Scientology beliefs, arrest all Scientologists, load them into freight cars and put them in prison camps for all I care, if thats the *cough* final *cough* solution to their Scientology problem... more *cough* white *cough* power to them! Hail XENU!! ... whoops I mean ya thats the ticket!

ships-cat Posted June 26, 2007 #11 Share Posted June 26, 2007 I don't get it. Whats the big deal about scientology, and why do the German Bundeswher care ? It's not as though the producers are making a film ABOUT scientology are they ? It all seems like a bit of a crass over-reaction.And at the same time, curiously dull. Meow Purr. girty1600 Posted June 26, 2007 #19 Share Posted June 26, 2007 I find the responses to this article very odd. I was thinking "wow, Germany found another stick to shove up their asses. How surprising." Don't get me wrong, I think Tom Cruise is a total nut-job of late mostly because of his association with that religion L. Ron Hubbard created after he lost a bet to his drinking buddy and wrote Dianetics...... But is it really that important? It would be a little different if the film itself was about an ailen worshiping cult but its not. German asses are probably still a little sore over WWII and using the fake religion as a cop-out but maybe that's just me....

__Kratos__ Posted June 26, 2007 #21 Share Posted June 26, 2007 If germany is going to ban him for that, shouldn't they ban all forms of mythology as well? Amazing how tom cruise's religion is brought up as false and stupid compared to the other bigger religions out there with oceans of blood and tears throughout their vile history are allowed to practice their immorality without question. glorybebe Posted June 26, 2007 Author #23 Share Posted June 26, 2007 The thing with Scientology is that its a money making cult, not normal mythology. I found these quotes on another forum that the founder of Scientology had stated: "MAKE MONEY. MAKE MORE MONEY. MAKE OTHER PEOPLE PRODUCE SO AS TO MAKE MORE MONEY." - L. Ron Hubbard "ENEMY SP Order. Fair game. May be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed." - L. Ron Hubbard [sP = Suppressive Person a.k.a. critic of Scientology] "A truly Suppressive Person or group has no rights of any kind and actions taken against them are not punishable." - L. Ron Hubbard "In any event, any person from 2.0 down on the Tone Scale should not have, in any thinking society, any civil rights of any kind, because by abusing those rights he brings into being arduous and strenuous laws which are oppressive to those who need no such restraints." - L. Ron Hubbard [The "Tone Scale" is Scientology's measure of mental and spiritual health.] "There are only two answers for the handling of people from 2.0 down on the Tone Scale, neither one of which has anything to do with reasoning with them or listening to their justification of their acts. The first is to raise them on the Tone Scale by un-enturbulating some of their theta by any one of the three valid processes. The other is to dispose of them quietly and without sorrow." - L. Ron Hubbard "The sudden and abrupt deletion of all individuals occupying the lower bands of the Tone Scale from the social order would result in an almost instant rise in the cultural tone and would interrupt the dwindling spiral into which any society may have entered." - L. Ron Hubbard I think that says it all, at least for me.

Edit; I like this one. Weird. "The sudden and abrupt deletion of all individuals occupying the lower bands of the Tone Scale from the social order would result in an almost instant rise in the cultural tone and would interrupt the dwindling spiral into which any society may have entered." - L. __Kratos__ Posted June 26, 2007 #25 Share Posted June 26, 2007 The thing with Scientology is that its a money making cult, not normal mythology. And other religions don't? Churchs, mosques and temples around the globe are worth billions and billions. A cult is just a religion with fewer people. Religions are cults that grew in numbers because their convincing people and brainwashing was better then the next guy's idea. Scientology is no more of a massive scam and falsehood then any other religion out there that have tricked/brainwashed people to follow them.
