This is closest you can get. There were guards, tape, bullet proof glass...

Cool! I missed this one before. The picture looks small inside all that protection. I can well imagine it must be very heavily guarded.

ive seen it once, when i was 2... i think some guy stole it once in like the 1880s, back before they had all that protection around it

Google: Mona Lisa, Leonardo De Vinci and find a report about microscopically discovering letters in the pupils of the Mona Lisa's eyes. One is am "L" the other a "V"

For you Mr Rainbow... in fact, it was fraud, not theft, a conman & forger, with the help of an insider, would replace the original with a forgery, show it to a buyer aka pigeon, in the Louvre, strike a deal & to prove it was the original he was buying he got the buyer to sign it on the back straight away, this was an illegal sale, so the buyer was unscrupulous too. the conman did this trick quite a few times. in the end he was caught. as you said, at the end of the 1800's
