Electrician saved by wrist watch

An electrician who was connecting a high voltage switch was hit with 11,000 volts but survived because he was wearing a metal wristwatch. Even so he spent several days in intensive care with burns to 20 percent of his body.
An electrician has revealed that his wristwatch might have saved his life after he was hit with 11,000 volts while working. Steve Edwards, 51, spent five days in intensive care being treated for burns to his face, chest, neck and arms after the horrific incident.

I wonder why he thinks his watch saved him? In most cases it is watches and wedding rings that cause electrocution. Unless the conductor came into contact with his watch, and earth at the same time, I have no idea why he thinks the watch did any more than conduct electricity. Strange one that.
