Church gives blessing to confessional app

A Confession app for the iPhone helps penitents examine their actions and seek spiritual guidance.
As part of an ongoing effort to encourage followers of the Catholic Church to bring their faith in to a technological age the Vatican has approved use of an iPhone app designed to make confessions and keep track of sins.
The app takes users through the sacrament - in which Catholics admit their wrongdoings - and allows them to keep track of their sins. It also allows them to examine their conscience based on personalised factors such as age, sex and marital status - but it is not intended to replace traditional confession entirely.

Not that i agree that this is justifiable. it does remind me of a comic strip that shows god talking to an angel that says "if you want to touch more lives you should really get on twitter and facebook." churches even have podcasts too.

Talk about phoning it in... (da dum ching!) srsly, tho...I'm not religious, but I've felt for a while now that it seems more empowering for people to cut out the middleman and talk to God themselves (if they believe in one), but then you would have to wonder why someone would need an app to talk to God (lol)... to me it mostly seems like a coping tool. It can be very healing to find some kind of expression and/or release of guilty feelings, even if it's through a journal or an app. If I were a religious Catholic, however, this would make me want to puke. I'm glad to see the church attempting t... [More]
