The strange case of a haunted bathroom has arisen in Bangladesh. Image Credit: sxc.hu
Several pupils have fallen ill after entering a bathroom attributed with the death of a schoolgirl.
The unusual series of events, which took place in the Pabna District of Bangladesh, began on Wednesday when 11-year-old Rumi Khatun became seriously ill and later died in hospital after using a bathroom at the Bordanagar Govt. Primary School.

Soon afterwards several other pupils at the school also started to feel ill after using the toilets, prompting the belief that a ghost had taken up residence there. Before long concerns over the matter had grown to the point where the school had to be closed down.

Locals later attempted to solve the problem by using a special ritual to try and cleanse the building.
"People use to believe that there is a ghost in the school as there was a long palm tree rumored to have a ghost many years ago," said Ataur Rahman Tota, chairman of the Saikola Union Parishad.

"After the schoolgirl died, locals believe that it was the same ghost now taking shelter in the toilet. That is why we have taken a step to remove the ghost from the school."

It isn't clear whether his efforts have succeeded in preventing any further incidents.

A toilet ghost? It's almost as though nobody in this school ever said those words out loud to hear how utterly insane they sound. Ah well, the gullible will be gullible. I wonder if they'd be interested in a bridge I have to sell...

I once worked in a place that had a haunted toilet. It was in a very modern, new building in a suburb of Cincinnati. It was a two story building housing a data processing company. The lower level men's room had two stalls. No one ever wanted to use the corner stall. This came to light during times when the bathroom would be busy and people would defer to each other over use of the corner stall. "No, you go ahead, I'll just wait", etc. It became noticed and people began to talk and it turned out that whenever anyone used the corner stall they would have visions of extreme gore and violence. I e... [More]

Sometimes people try to come up with a politically correct (for where they live, anyway) reason to do something. Presumably the first little girl sadly really was sick with something. It may be that the parents or teachers didn't want this school for these girls, or perhaps the girls were having some kind of problem with an official at the school, or who knows? But this sounds like it was a weird but workable excuse to free the girls from having to go to this facility.

Oh there's a similar story in Japan. It's like in their Urban Legend. A ghost would come up to you all of a sudden while you are using the toilet and then he would ask you if you want any paper. If you say yes, he will come and get you and you will never be found. If you say no, he'll kill you. It is said that the best response should be "No paper" and he would leave you alone. You actually are close, I think you might be referring to Aka manto. The demon is said to be wearing a cape and asks you the color. Red gets you a slit throat, blue gets strangled. You must lie and say yellow. This gets... [More]

Certainly not as dramatic, but several years ago a group of us were conducting an EVP session in an alleged hotspot inside an unused school. All of us were accounted for and in the same room right next to the mens toilet. While pausing through questions we often would allow 30 seconds before asking the next. All of us heard a toilet flush next door or at least what was perceived as a flush. Several of us ran in all at once after the incident to check out what the disturbance was about and found that all the plumbing had been removed. We contacted the school board and found the name of the last... [More]

On that note, evp, although I'm not saying the sound of a flush wasn't heard. I have found in various places I have lived, with more than one bathroom, there would be the sound of water running, like you would hear after the toilet flushes. The thing is, one wasn't flushing. What I found out, usually it's the downstairs bathroom you would hear the sound every so often, and I often think it's some pre-set thing that regulates water pressure or something. But I hear it nevertheless from to time to time and have come to that conclusion. Well, whatever the beliefs of varying areas, the first prior... [More]

Understood and appreciated but as I said at the end of the post, the plumbing was removed and no water was entering the building. They shut it off 3 years prior when the school was abandoned for safety reasons. True you did mention that. So, yeah, no answer for that. Interesting though.

I wonder if they'd be interested in a bridge I have to sell... So......? How much are we talking? If you don't have clorox use vinegar. I had to use a composting toilet for a whole month (pipes froze in January), and no turd monster ever came to get me.
