An unidentified object that descended on Kecksburg, Pennsylvania in 1965 continues to remain an enigma.
So great is the mystery surrounding the incident that a festival is still held in Kecksburg each year to celebrate its significance to the local area and to renew efforts to find out exactly what happened.

A new feature film, "Kecksburg", is also in development and will be promoted at this year's event.

The festival will run from July 27-29 and is sponsored by the Kecksburg Fire Department.

"All these years there have been unanswered questions about what happened that night, even disagreements between friends in Kecksburg over what, if anything, occurred," said Bob Gatty, a former reporter who had been on-scene at the time of the incident.

"They all deserve to know the truth."
The incident began on December 9, 1965 when thousands of witnesses across several states observed a peculiar fireball which dropped 'hot metal debris' as it blazed through the heavens.

In Kecksburg, a young local boy claimed that he had seen the object landing in nearby woods and his mother later reported it to the authorities when she saw strange blue wisps rising from the trees.

Several locals, including members of the fire department, who had gone out to investigate the scene reportedly found an acorn-shaped object the size of a small car with strange writing on its surface.

Within a short space of time there were reports of an intense military presence at the crash site with army officials ordering civilians away from the scene while the object was being loaded on to a truck.

The incident was later played down as nothing more than a meteor impact, however many people still believe that the military had been covering up something a lot more significant.

To this day, no definitive explanation for what happened has ever been found.

Perhaps something akin to the 2013 Chelyabinsk bolide though not as devastating. Many youtubes to view should anyone want to experience the visual effects.

Interesting how around Cardwell there were crop circles found and there was a sighting of a ufo around Westall the same year.

Oooh! so in other words you think there might be a connection Hawks ?  Either way, I do find the Westall story interesting.

You said it, I didn't. But the links said they both happened the same year.
